Q by Peter Chang

My friend and I were looking forward to dim sum at Q by Peter Chang. We were disappointed by the selection and while the food was acceptable, it was far below the standards of what one would expect from Peter Chang. The dim sum at many establishments in the greater DC area are far better, and much less expensive. The staff were pleasant enough, but the cavernous space seems antithetical to the kind of experience diners would like to have in enjoying a meal where you don't feel like you are in a museum.

Not much available for gluten-free diners. Ate outdoors on a pleasant night, but ambiance is lacking.

I most definitely will go back for the food. The drinks are a bit weak so I suggest going for the amazing food.

Excellent upscale Chinese restaurant. Service and food were impeccable. A good place to bring guests you want to impress.

3rd dinner. Food is always excellent. However again our server was very inexperienced and had some trouble with English. He tried very hard, but for a high end destination restaurant, our expectation is the servers would be more experienced

Ordered regular coke- never served
Fried eggplant was good. Shrimp and fish was ok. Small pieces of fish. When made the reservation told its a birthday dinner for a friend. Server brought the check without asking if we want a dessert or not. When told it's a birthday another server brought a scoop of ice cream in a bowl... and just put it on the table and quickly left. Informed again to our server that's it's a birthday and why she didn't give us the choice of desserts. She said no other is available except the ice cream....

Second time. Just not good. Seating is terrible. Too big tables for conversation. Just not anything special.

Service was pretty horrible. Too fast or too slow. When too slow, we had to wave people down. We over ordered as new people to this restaurant and there was no guidance from the server to save us from this mistake. Booth was uncomfortable and the whole back of it moved. Food was unremarkable. The appetizer and one entrée (which would have been enough to share) were bland. The one entrée labeled mildly spicy was considerably more spicy than advertised. Will not return.

Was not thrilled. Was expecting more for this Bethesda spot. Excited for the dim sum menu but food was okay, the dim sum cart was missing which is part of the thrill at these types of brunches.

This is definitely a cut above other Chinese restaurants in the area. Flavors and recipes are more subtle than most. Delicious.

I wanted to like this place which seemed creative and original. The decor was certainly nice and the airy atmosphere inviting. Clearly there is room for improvising on Chiness food and that was the promise.. unfortunately this did not live up to the billing for me. The sauce for Szechuan beef was too intense, overpowering the dish. Same for other offerings. I would prefer more subtle flavors to match the well designed presentation. I will say I was in the minority in my group but found it very disappointing.

Great peking duck, pan-fried dumplings, and scallops with brussel sprouts.

Q is by far our favorite restaurant in Bethesda. The food is outstanding. While I'm always disappointed not to see some of my past favorites still on the menu (e.g., jalapeño beef; hot and numbing beef noodle) Chef Chang nevertheless delights us with new additions. The chili prawn dish I had was beautiful to behold and utterly delicious. Others at our table enjoyed the cumin shredded chicken and crispy diced beef with peanut. We always get the dry-fried eggplant for an appetizer and should remember to order 2 plates, not just one. It is scrumptious.

Food was fairly priced, so-so in taste. Double cooked pork belly tasted and looked like soggy bacon in a vaguely Chinese sauce. Dipping sauce for bubble pancake was thick and yellow-green and vile. Pancake was good and sort of fun. Eggplant in garlic was pretty good - not the best I've ever had but alright. given the dearth of good Chinese restaurants in Bethesda and DC, I was hoping for something better. Inside looks like a chain restaurant.

The food is so authentic. The service is outstanding. Must give it a try!

Asked to tone down the fish in a clay pot meal because no one in our party wanted a very hot dish, although we did want a spicy dish Given the heat, I have to believe our request was totally ignored. The conclusion reached is that you shouldn’t ask a dish to be prepared any way other than how it is described.

Given the high prices and the good review we had read of this restaurant, we had high expectations. Unfortunately, there were only a few "gluten friendly" options on the menu, and the one I ordered (shrimp with crispy rice) was extremely bland. (The crispy rice dome it came under was the one thing that gave it a bit of taste.) My husband's "Q's Special Beef" was tastier, but the dinner left us flummoxed as to why the prices were so high. We had hoped for "a cut above" Asian dining experience, but we'll stick with our local takeout place.

Every single dish came out as a surprise not only for it's unique originality and presentation but even more so for it's delightfulnes and texture. The vegetable dumpling and it's very delicate dough is a creation by an artist.

Q by Peter Chang is one of the most inventive restaurants around. While the menu features some very traditional Szechuan dishes, most of the highlights include the chef's original takes that morph a traditional item into something that is both new and instantly recognizable. Maybe the most impressive dish was the Peking duck, hand trimmed of excess fat, with perfectly cooked meat and crispy skin. Even the pancakes are handmade.

We tried a number of appetizers and entrees, and did not have a single disappointing dish. The cumin shredded chicken was delicious, flavorful, and felt like the place where the cuisines of Burma, China, and India all intersected.

Highly recommend.

Peter Chang serves up first rate Sichuan cuisine-its best to get advice on what to order as there are some excellent dishes that we would have never ordered but we went with our Chinese daughter in law who loves food even more than we do. Beggars Rib with Potato was exceptionally good and a favorite of everyone. It's a very laid back atmosphere. We will be back soon.

Great customer service

Delicious & beautifully presented Szechuan food in a lovely, low-key setting (don’t be fooled by corporate exterior of building). It is hard to find great Chinese food in the area, so I really enjoyed this dinner. The staff members were kind and efficient but unobtrusive, which I liked.

We came to Q for their Peking Duck and it was well worth it. However, we only ordered half a duck to share between the two of us and we should have gotten the whole bird! I think I could have eaten it all night long. Wow! the duck was perfectly prepared and the pancakes were so light and almost translucent and also perfect along with the 2 sauces. We will definitely be back for the duck. I am sure the other choices are as good but I don't think I will ever want to not order the duck!! Service was also great: timely, professional, and gentle - the waitress was a delight and knew just when to check on us, when to order, and when to clear the plates. We will definitely be back.

I did not like this restaurant. I do not know if we went on an off day but the food was not very good, the service was not very engaging and the overall experience was underwhelming. I was very disappointed.

I'd heard so many great things about Q by Peter Chang -- I thought it was fine but it wasn't anything special. I ordered the Jade Shrimp which was very unique with its dome of crispy rice, but the shrimp and sauce were incredibly bland. Others at the table were happier with their entree choices. The restaurant has a cool interior but I doubt I'll return.

Great new addition to the Bethesda restaurant scene! Very interesting dishes. Not just routine.

Very disappointed to learn they use MSG is every dish. Love the food but will no longer eat there. Even people without allergy can feel swollen after eating MSG, which is discontinued in most Asian restaurants. Very disappointing.

Not your typical Asian restaurant! We had 4 appetizers and 4 entrees. Everything was fabulous. Better than any restaurant in China Town.

For two women, we overordered with two appetizers and two main courses but almost finished them as they were so good. We did finish the appetizers of the pork belly and the dry fried eggplant, which filled us up a bit too much. Though it was good, the dry fried eggplant was not what we expected, being sort of batter fried. Of course we ate it as it was addictive. We got the fish filet with the scallion sauce and that was fantastic. The beef and peanuts was interesting but the little pieces made it difficult to get all the different flavors together when eating with chopsticks. We should have split a main course as we left a lot of the beef dish. I would go back and try other dishes as they sounded delicious also. We were stuffed when we left.

Our 2nd visit. Service was friendly and prompt. Portion sizes are generous. Food is carefully prepared and delicious. We were there for a 5:30 reservation...so the restaurant was not very busy. The noise level increased as we left about 45 minutes later.

I am a fan of the Peter Chang dynastry of restaurants. However, for the flagship, Q looks more like a cafeteria than a high end Asian eatery. It isn't very cozy or comfortable. Lighting is very bright and there's nothing 'soft' about the room. However, the food is first fate.

The food here is always excellent. The service is sometimes slow, but worth the wait. My only real issue with this place is it is a large, echoing box. There are no soft surfaces so the noise level when they are busy is really unpleasant. However, that seems to be the case everywhere. The style these days seems to be "make it loud" in order to create a sense that the place is crowded and "in." Not to my taste, but I can't find a restaurant that has good food and isn't like that.

I will be surprised if the restaurant is around much longer. Service was fine. The restaurant looks like they took a giant space and haphazardly put in tables ,booths and a bar so they could change quickly.

The menu looked interesting but the food is not good. We had Kung Pao chicken which was over sauces and tasted like it had been sitting around for awhile, steamed dumplings’ dough was okay but the filling without flavor and duck soup with tofu. This was a green onion thick soup. Which was Interesting and thick but with little duck or tofu.

We love the Peter Chang in Rockville. We go there a lot. We think the food is excellent. We were so excited to try Q. We were really excited to try the dim sum brunch. We were so disappointed. None of the excitement of a traditional dim sum experience with the carts being pushed around the dining room. We tried 11 different dishes, which ranged from not good to just okay to pretty good.

Great Chinese contemporary cuisine- great location for attending RoundHouse Theatre production- need a reservation-

The two specialty cocktails we enjoyed were delicious though the red wine "float" was mixed in, not on top. The food was good though intermittently seasoned so that some bites were bland while others were almost too flavored. Textures and presentation were great.

Prices are commensurate with the quality of food.

Very good experience. However, we were use to the Peter Changs in Rockville which has a much more extensive menu. Otherwise; excellent.

We had an excellent anniversary meal. We were pleased to see gluten-free options clearly marked. Unfortunately, we these were only 4 gluten-free entries, two of which were shellfish—allergic!!! We didn’t want chicken so we had a wonderful Bronzino dish. We would have loved to have been able to share 2 dishes. We also an awesome appetizer (2 gluten free choices), and two different gluten free soups. The meal was spectacular, but we will not return frequently because there are not a lot of choices for us. Most high end restaurants are able to modify non-gluten-free options. Not here, sadly, and I hope that changes. I was especially disappointed that none of the many duck options were gluten free.

If you love spicy Szechuan food, look no further! The menu is full of tempting hot and spicy treats that go far beyond the usual American Chinese restaurant fare. Dim Sum is not to be missed. Great cocktails, too!
