We had a lovely family dinner for our daughters 31 bday. We felt accommodated with our grandson in the group as well
The only thing that was confusing was that someone was told we could not bring our bday cake in
After arriving we were told that for a service fee we could bring it in
It worked out ok but it was inconsistent information
Thank you fir a lovely evening.
Just a fabulous restaurant all round. The Food was absolutely incredible! Can't wait to come back!
Great experience, perfect atmosphere with live music , staff were friendly knowledgeable and attentive. Food was excellent we had the sablefish and salmon and both were exquisite.
Very nice evening; great attentive service. Cost is higher than expected.
Sadly our family bday dinner was an absolute disaster ... took over and hour to get appetizers, and then over and hour after that for dinner. The server was awesome he went out of his way to try and make things better but when the mains arrived with cold meat on one, burnt vegetables on the other and bleeding lamb when medium was requested we had to get a manager involved. She was very quick to tell us the meal would be on the house but that was not the issues! We can for a very special bday and it was just so disappointing. When the food returned while it was hot the sides were burned. All in all the server was amazing as was the bartender but something went seriously sideways in the kitchen and the management team simply blamed the volume....the restaurant was not full....we are locals and have eaten there many times, I’ve decided to give it one more try
Q is a go to place for visitors who are here for a short time. A quick way to get the Victoria experience if time is limited. A great location and a sense of luxury enhance the experience
The clam chowder soup I had was outstanding but alas the Caesar salad was not.
The wine selection is excellent.
Truthfully, one of the best dining experiences we’ve ever enjoyed. The food, ambience and service were all simply outstanding.
Prices are high but that is to be expected at the Empress. We were in the restaurant and did not have a view from our table but it would be nice to sit in the bar and enjoy the view with a drink in hand. The decor is too modern for the classic style of the Empress and so does not give a nice cozy feeling.
Exceptional service! Really amazing selection, can cater to any dietary restriction (vegan even!) and make you feel so welcome!
My husband and I were travelling with my mother-in-law to Victoria. We stayed at the Fairmont Empress and eat supper here. It was Valentine's Day, and they had a set menu. As a vegetarian I was concerned. Not usually getting very good value. I'm still a believer that a vegetarian option should be much less than the more expensive animal proteins. However the meal was delicious even if a bit pricey. The service and ambiance are definitely five star. They had a lovely chanteuse playing guitar. It was absolutely lovely however my mother-in-law not a big eater did not want all the courses. Just some recommendations, for the kitchen to consider.
Expensive but one of the very best places to eat in over-rated Victoria restaurant scene
It was awesome Valentine day date!!! Highly recommended for special occasion!
Our meal was wonderful and the service was exceptional. We were celebrating my wife’s birthday and this restaurant was the perfect choice.
Fine dining and high class delicious food in an atmosphere that is warm, inviting and friendly. The staff is great and know their food. Q and the Empress is one of our favourite places to visit and eat, and it is a must go to when visiting Victoria. Highly recommended!!!
The service was terrific - my dinner was bratwurst, red cabbage and spaetzle and it was excellent. My husband had the bison ribs and it was not to his taste, too gamey but all in all a relaxing night out.
My wife and I were impressed by the quality of the food, something that should be expected from a restaurant in a hotel of this calibre. Her appetiser, the beet salad with whipped goat cheese, was superb and large enough that some people could consider it for a full meal, especially for lunch. My duck prosciutto was equally good. For our mains, she had the lamb, set off really well by the liquorice, and I the sablefish which just melted on the tongue, a delightful sensation I have never experienced before with fish. All dishes were plated nicely and the came on properly warmed plates, something some supposedly good restaurants fail to do. We shared the Empress cake and it lived up to its promotion on the website. Our waiter was knowledgeable, also as should be expected. The visual ambience is superb, especially the ceiling. The only fault I would mention is that the live music was neither to my taste and, despite my hearing impairment, it was too loud, even though I requested a table as far away from the musicians as possible. I wonder if it would be possible to lower the volume in some sections of this very large room.
Came for lunch for our anniversary on a Thursday and restaurant was fairly quiet. Amazing service and food and drinks! My wife loved it!
We were at Q for my birthday and it was Dine Around Victoria. Our reservation was for 6:15, however we were able to change the time easily due to our circumstances. Warm reception, waiter John, was not as conscientious as he could have been. He didn’t seem to know the menu, however he had recently returned to work from being away 7 weeks. Food was excellent, we both had the crab crostini, I had soup and my husband had the salad. We both had the Sooke trout which was fabulous.
The food and ambience was amazing. Excellent service!
Very happy with everything. Have been here several times and looking forward to coming back!
We came with friends for Dine Around and were very impressed by the quality, quantity and variety of the portions offered on the menus we selected. We'll definitely return again to try the regular menu. Beautifully renovated and lovely atmosphere on a dark, rainy evening. Service was perfect!
We went to Q on first night of Dine Around. Had a great meal. Excellent service, very personal and knowledgeable.
Loved the live music in the background, great service. A bit too good because it was a slow night. Had the sable fish. It was good, but I liked my sides better. Tasted the bison short ribs my friend had and that plate was huge and very tasty.
Beet salad to start was very large portion (good to share) and very fresh and delicious.
The service was excellent. We had cocktails from their special menu and their gimlet was perfectly done. We went on Saturday night and there was live music. Definitely a magical experience. You could feel the history of the place. The food was delicious, with a modern flair on classic dishes. I would absolutely recommend this dining experience to anyone, especially for a special occasion.
Our go to spot for lunch in Victoria. Love the menu at the Q. Something tasty for everyone! We also love the consistent exceptional service.
Lorne couldn’t have made our four year anniversary more special. What a great night!! Can’t speak higher of the service, ambiance and food. An unforgettable evening!
Sablefish dish is a must have. Waiter LOREN IS a delight and his recommendations are spot o n for both food .wine and beer.
I was visiting family from out-of-town and thought it would be a treat to take my family to an upscale restaurant within the Empress hotel. I made the reservation using OpenTable, and even so, we were not greeted for about 5 minutes while waiting at the service stand at the front of the restaurant. After being seated, it took another 10 minutes for the waitress to inquire about beverages, and by that time, the table that came in after us, already had their beverages served and orders taken. The hostess and waitress were very polite, but the service was rather inefficient.
Enjoyed a lovely New Year's Eve lunch with guest from out of town. We really enjoyed the menu and suggestions from our efficient server. Beautiful presentation, great timing for drinks and ordering and server was in no way an interruption, to our visit. Updated decor is wonderful and holiday decorations very tasteful and festive. Only comment I could make, is the chairs at the table need to be clean, I had to sit on a dirty one, because I did not want to make a fuss with my guests. Kind of disappointing for such a beautiful dining room. We enjoyed lovely coffee's and biscotti and lots of time to chat after our huge lunch.
We cannot say anything bad about our experience-we started at the Lounge which other than being seated near the glass wash station (only seats available) it was great! Terrific service and cocktails!
Dinner was amazing as was the service. My husband enjoyed the steak, best he’s ever had. I highly recommend the sablefish and creme caramel for dessert!
For the price the food was meh, not great. We started with the seafood tower for a lot of money, and we will say the smoked salmon was amazing and the oysters were great, kind of hard to screw up raw oysters. King crab legs?? More like baby tiny legs, smaller in size than dungeoness, the shrimp was meh and the poke had too much sesame oil. Finished with a rib eye and not only very charred but super thin cut. Again, a saving factor was the potatoes, super yummy; but not worth the money. Overall the restaurant is small and cramped, and if going to the Empress is a must, have drink in the bar or tea in the afternoon, skip the dinner and go to The Irish Times Pub, half the price and super yummy!!
The food was delicious, our server Andrew was knowledgeable and fun. We would go back and ask to be seated in his section. We loved every minute of our dinner there.
Food was excellent, service was slow-ish, especially the bar. I ordered a Rye and Coke and it took at least 10 minutes to come. My wife’s wine came in half the time. All they are doing is putting a shot into a glass. They don’t mix it so that you can do it to your own taste, it shouldn’t take for than a couple minutes.
The menu on OpenTable is completely wrong though. Don’t trust it. Most items have been changed or removed and the ones that remain are significantly more expensive than they say on here.
The food and drinks were excellent. The service was unfortunately slow, and our server was not particularly knowledgeable. The room is gorgeous. Would recommend for a date or special occasion.
Disappointed , service was mediocre no bread plates. Cold soup sent back to get warmed. Food was above average. But total experience wasn’t up to the cost. Old Empree fine dining Restaurant, I felt was better experience.
Christmas Eve Dinner was wonderful! Service and food were excellent.
Our Christmas eve lunch was a special treat, part of a family tradition. Our visit to the q dining room was pleasant and the food was excellent. Staff seemed a little harried even though the dining room was far from full and the dinner service was hours away. ... glitches were minor but evident... hostess was quickly able to conceal fatigue as we approached the desk to be seated. Took inordinately long to get coffee delivered to the table , some of our party's main course dishes were brought with the starters of the rest of us , cutlery removed with starters was not replaced with main dishes until requested, steak knife not automatically presented with the steak, extra glassware removed only on request, incorrect orders brought to table... as mentioned earlier, the food and atmosphere are excellent , but the service team seems to need some extra training. For a restaurant in a landmark, destination hotel such as the empress and for the price of lunch (at the top end of reasonable for a special occasion ) guests should also be treated to service that lives up to the reputation of the hotel . Hopefully the staff are paid well enough by the new owners to want to stay and learn the skills needed to become effective reprentatives of one of Victorias landmark locations in future.
Service really shabby. They served our mains while we were still eating our appetisers. We had to ask for cutlery. Not sure who our waiter was as we had so many random people helping us. Hostess had a run in her stocking which is not appropriate for a five star hotel restaurant. Waiter seemed his head was in the clouds. Would not recommend and in fact should’ve gone to Cora’s restaurant up the street.
The food was excellent and the staff was very friendly and accommodating! Thank you for a very special evening!
I expected the Empress to be on the expensive side but this was over the top. The wine list is extensive to be sure but at lunch I don't want to have to go through 20 pages to pick a handful of wines under $100. My first pick was not available. An abbreviated lunch wine list would be great- the full pretentious list on request. The menu on the other hand was a one page one side selection. Our server was neither skilled or unskilled, not good but not bad- average. It was interesting seeing what the dining room has evolved into. In closing the Bengal bar and the dining room, it is my opinion that the Empress/Fairmont has stumbled, abandoning the traditional clientele for a new generation that favours a $175 burger and sandwich with a decent wine lunch. I feel old.
