Thank you Fairmont Empress for an excellent celebration of Mrs D's birthday whilst visiting BC from the UK.

Just the flax and faro bread with whipped butter, salt flakes, and Empress honey itself is worth the visit! We dined here twice on our trip to Victoria and enjoyed great food, service, and live music each time. Kid friendly too!

I’ve always loved the Q so when organizing a girls night I chose the Q for our large group. Unfortunately the service was terrible. As people arrived they were not given menus. The drinks menu kept being taken from the table and we had to keep asking for it. Our water glasses were not refilled until we asked. We were charged for the bread at the table. The server was impatient when asking for drink choices. The server made us feel like an inconvenience and he seemed to dislike his job. The food was outstanding but sadly the negativity of the evening was all people remembered.

The service and food were both perfection. I had the filet and my spouse had the Bison short ribs. Staff went out of their way to make my birthday memorable.

My wife and I met our daughter for Easter lunch at the Q restaurant in the Empress. Staff are unfailingly polite and attentive without being obtrusive. Menu for lunch leans heavily towards seafood dishes although other choices are available. The renovations to the Empress are very well done but the modern designs make it just another upscale Fairmont locale rather than the unusual and historic Empress of the past. Prices tend to be at the top end. Other smaller restaurants and bistros in the area generally have more interesting menus and cost slightly less. Suitable for evening meals if cost is no object.

Great food with exceptional service.
Live music to be heard from the bar nearby.
A humbling sense of history, with the portraits of Queen Victoria through her life, in a great hall that must have been used as a ballroom a hundred years ago.

We had a most wonderful night out! Maddi was our server and she was great! She did not rush us at all and allowed us to enjoy the whole night. Would recommend for anyone looking to splurge a bit and have a wonderful authentic night out

My spouse and I are in Victoria for a week of relaxation away from winter in Manitoba. The Empress is a beautiful setting for an evening’s meal. The dining room was not busy and there were four servers /waiters including John who was our server. John served us as though he were counting the days to retirement and seemed to spend more time chatting with other people including other tables while not attending to pending requests from us. The service will not have Q competitive with other fine dining restaurants in the inner harbour zone , and the relative emptiness of the dining room reflects that fact I suspect. We are unlikely to return until we can see in reviews a significant improvement in the service.

I recently had a business lunch at Q and the staff were attentive from the very moment I arrived until the moment my guest and I left several hours later. We had a long lunch to discuss business and I can't think of a better place to do this now! Thanks to all and especially our server who was outstanding.

We had a lovely family dinner for our daughters 31 bday. We felt accommodated with our grandson in the group as well
The only thing that was confusing was that someone was told we could not bring our bday cake in
After arriving we were told that for a service fee we could bring it in
It worked out ok but it was inconsistent information
Thank you fir a lovely evening.

Sadly our family bday dinner was an absolute disaster ... took over and hour to get appetizers, and then over and hour after that for dinner. The server was awesome he went out of his way to try and make things better but when the mains arrived with cold meat on one, burnt vegetables on the other and bleeding lamb when medium was requested we had to get a manager involved. She was very quick to tell us the meal would be on the house but that was not the issues! We can for a very special bday and it was just so disappointing. When the food returned while it was hot the sides were burned. All in all the server was amazing as was the bartender but something went seriously sideways in the kitchen and the management team simply blamed the volume....the restaurant was not full....we are locals and have eaten there many times, I’ve decided to give it one more try

Q is a go to place for visitors who are here for a short time. A quick way to get the Victoria experience if time is limited. A great location and a sense of luxury enhance the experience

The clam chowder soup I had was outstanding but alas the Caesar salad was not.

The wine selection is excellent.

Prices are high but that is to be expected at the Empress. We were in the restaurant and did not have a view from our table but it would be nice to sit in the bar and enjoy the view with a drink in hand. The decor is too modern for the classic style of the Empress and so does not give a nice cozy feeling.

My husband and I were travelling with my mother-in-law to Victoria. We stayed at the Fairmont Empress and eat supper here. It was Valentine's Day, and they had a set menu. As a vegetarian I was concerned. Not usually getting very good value. I'm still a believer that a vegetarian option should be much less than the more expensive animal proteins. However the meal was delicious even if a bit pricey. The service and ambiance are definitely five star. They had a lovely chanteuse playing guitar. It was absolutely lovely however my mother-in-law not a big eater did not want all the courses. Just some recommendations, for the kitchen to consider.

The service was terrific - my dinner was bratwurst, red cabbage and spaetzle and it was excellent. My husband had the bison ribs and it was not to his taste, too gamey but all in all a relaxing night out.

My wife and I were impressed by the quality of the food, something that should be expected from a restaurant in a hotel of this calibre. Her appetiser, the beet salad with whipped goat cheese, was superb and large enough that some people could consider it for a full meal, especially for lunch. My duck prosciutto was equally good. For our mains, she had the lamb, set off really well by the liquorice, and I the sablefish which just melted on the tongue, a delightful sensation I have never experienced before with fish. All dishes were plated nicely and the came on properly warmed plates, something some supposedly good restaurants fail to do. We shared the Empress cake and it lived up to its promotion on the website. Our waiter was knowledgeable, also as should be expected. The visual ambience is superb, especially the ceiling. The only fault I would mention is that the live music was neither to my taste and, despite my hearing impairment, it was too loud, even though I requested a table as far away from the musicians as possible. I wonder if it would be possible to lower the volume in some sections of this very large room.

We were at Q for my birthday and it was Dine Around Victoria. Our reservation was for 6:15, however we were able to change the time easily due to our circumstances. Warm reception, waiter John, was not as conscientious as he could have been. He didn’t seem to know the menu, however he had recently returned to work from being away 7 weeks. Food was excellent, we both had the crab crostini, I had soup and my husband had the salad. We both had the Sooke trout which was fabulous.

Loved the live music in the background, great service. A bit too good because it was a slow night. Had the sable fish. It was good, but I liked my sides better. Tasted the bison short ribs my friend had and that plate was huge and very tasty.
Beet salad to start was very large portion (good to share) and very fresh and delicious.

The service was excellent. We had cocktails from their special menu and their gimlet was perfectly done. We went on Saturday night and there was live music. Definitely a magical experience. You could feel the history of the place. The food was delicious, with a modern flair on classic dishes. I would absolutely recommend this dining experience to anyone, especially for a special occasion.

I was visiting family from out-of-town and thought it would be a treat to take my family to an upscale restaurant within the Empress hotel. I made the reservation using OpenTable, and even so, we were not greeted for about 5 minutes while waiting at the service stand at the front of the restaurant. After being seated, it took another 10 minutes for the waitress to inquire about beverages, and by that time, the table that came in after us, already had their beverages served and orders taken. The hostess and waitress were very polite, but the service was rather inefficient.
