Purple Cafe and Wine Bar - Seattle Ratings and Reviews
I wish they were more organized with their seating at opening. They let everyone pack in the front lobby like cattle, but wouldn't seat anybody till noon(which was fine because it was the time they opened). People were packed in so tight that employees couldn't get in the front door to go to work. Customers were snapping at each other and getting snarky. It started the experience off on a real negative. Put out a red velvet rope(or purple!) or something to give some kind of order. Once they got everyone seated my personal experience was excellent. Our server and the food runners were so friendly. Food did take a bit of time to get out, but not bad considering the number of people who all arrived at the same time(there was a show at The 5th Ave). The food was really good, but not so good that I thought "I've got to come back again" I would go back, but not when I had somewhere to go after(we made it to our show on time, but I was worried the whole time that we wouldn't make it-fyi our reservations were an hour and a half prior to showtime.) and definitely not at opening.
The food was excellent, however the whole process was slow. We had to wait a bit for our reservation before being seated. Once seated we had to wait 5-10 minutes before even getting any water, the service speed did not ever pick up. Sitting by the window had a bit of a draft but I noticed a good amount of people in the restaurant wearing their jackets while eating, so it wasn't just us who were thinking it was a bit chilly in there. All total, it took an hour and 10 minutes to have lunch (main course and dessert). The food was very good and cooked well, but kinda pricy for what it was. I would go there again but not for quick meal or any time its not a special meal.
A friend and I visited Purple before a concert at Benaroya Hall. I live in the neighborhood, so frequent Purple, but my friend had never eaten there. We were both impressed with the delicious food and extensive wine list. Our server also was attentive without hovering. I also commend Purple for letting us stay at the table for 4, near a window, after informing them that the other 2 potential dinner companions had decided not to join us, at the last minute. Purple staff were considerate.
It was my first time here, I 've been meaning to come for years. I'm glad we came. We made a reservation, our table was ready when we arrived. Our server was GREAT, he was super knowledgeable. I'm not a picky eater, but I unless I'm craving something in particular, I HATE making meal decisions. LOL! I begged the server to pick something out for us, he asked us a few questions, I assume to get a sense of our taste preference. And he said No problem! He suggested our meal and our wine and it was AMAZING!!! He also over heard my business partner wish me a happy birthday and he showed up later with a surprise dessert.
We'll definitely be back. Outstanding service and outstanding food. I thought the prices were "slightly" on the high side, BUT for the experience overall, I would say that it was worth it. Thanks Purple!
While the food was good, we were seated upstairs where nobody else was seated. I thought others would start to be seated upstairs after we were, but that was not the case. While eating, a few staff members sat at tables around us to eat their dinners and complain about something. I would've preferred to eat downstairs where all other guests were eating...it almost made us feel unwanted when we were placed upstairs all alone.
We had a wonderful evening dining at the Purple Cafe and Wine Bar in Seattle. The ambience was perfect which created a beautiful evening to be in Seattle! The glimmer of the holiday lights shimmered through the window at the table where we were seated.
The food was amazing! We started with the Warm Medjool Dates, which were absolutely delicious! Our dinner was well prepared just as we had ordered. The Classic Cheeseburger had just the right combination to make it one of the best burgers I’ve tasted in a long time! To add to that, an addition of sweet potato fries was the perfect side! The Purple Chopped Salad was delightful. The sweet Italian Vinaigrette added to the perfect balance of flavors. Dessert was delectable! The Vanilla Bean Crème Brulee had a creamy and rich flavor topped with a perfectly caramelized sugar. The Dark Chocolate Brownie was melt–in- your mouth wonderful! It had a rich, fudge flavor, topped with a light and delicious whipped cream!
The service was incredible! Shandrea (sp.) was most attentive and ever the professional! She was knowledgeable, friendly, prompt, and quickly available! She was lovely.
We booked our reservation through Open Table. Planning made easy.
We couldn’t be more pleased with our evening!
We went to celebrate our engagement. They were very happy for us and gave us glasses of sparkling wine and a dessert on the house. Portions were large and a surprisingly good price. Wine list is huge and daunting, and the specialty wines had a somewhat high markup. This was an excellent dining experience and would highly recommend.
Purple is one of our favourite places to have lunch before a play or a visit to the Seattle Art Museum. Our last visit was unusual because it was not as good. My Berkshire Stew was great but my wife’s Crab Roll should have been named a Celery Roll due to the lack of crab. The place was packed with the lunch crowd but even then our service was unusually slow. Still a great place to eat inspite of a disappointing g visit.
Purple was great, I really appreciated the wine list being so diverse and affordable. They have a lovely Cote du Rhône selection which can be rare to find where I live in California so it was greatly appreciated. Also having the wine director there to do wine service was a nice touch.
