Purple Cafe and Wine Bar - Bellevue Ratings and Reviews
I typically love Purple and my dish (the Lamb ragu) was great. My husband's steak was just meh. The appetizer was good but not amazing. I think if you have unlimited budget for dining and a really good bottle of wine it's a very nice place but if you want to pay under $50 for a bottle you're headed to the wrong spot.
Had a great lunch! Met up with a friend, and had no issues with being seated and served promptly. Our waitress was great and with just the right amount of attention - not too little, not too much. We got the lunch combo of the tomato soup and chopped salad, and both were delicious and filled me up perfectly. I have been here for dinner before, but was really pleased with my lunch experience all around.
We've had dinner at this location multiple times.
Seating: We always ask for a wall or window table - they seem to be quieter
Service: The service was okay but not great. The server could have come by a bit more.
Wait time for food: Usually the wait for food isn't too long. We ordered a steak and a burger. It took ~40 min to get our order which seemed like a very long time. We also ordered dessert (crème brulee) and it also took forever (for what it is). For entrees and dessert we were there for over 2 hrs on a Saturday night.
Burger - Husband said it was good but they forgot the onion
Steak - was cooked as ordered, needed more seasoning
Crème Brulee - Very good
Overall, it was good but the service was very slow and somewhat inattentive. He refilled my soda with the wrong kind and almost got the dessert order wrong (I caught it and corrected him). We'll be back - am thinking they were having a off-night. Maybe multiple people were out sick.
Cool vibe, good food. I eat lunch here often, but this was one of only a couple of times that we’ve gone for dinner. Was in the mood for a comfortable local place with good food but not too fancy. I started w/my tried and true lunch selection—chopped salad and had two apps as my main course—filo wrapped Brie & tuna tartare. Both were very flavorful. Husband had beef tenderloin steak—not as perfectly prepared as what a more expensive top steakhouse offers, but it was good and portion was surprisingly big. Service was friendly and timely without being overly intrusive. Hit the spot.
The waitstaff and reservation desk did a great job of accommodating our special needs birthday person. They had it ready when we showed up and served up a great meal! I will say that the noise level in this space is very high ... steel and concrete and glass and a full load of customers made it exceptionally loud in the restaurant. It didn't spoil the dinner but did make for difficulty in conversing.
Disappointed at initial reception as gal checking us in couldn't find our reservation (made 5 days ahead via Open Table). She not only couldn't find it (even though I showed her the confirm on my phone), she proceeded to argue with us that we must be mistaken; the reservation must have been at one of the other Purple locations, or have been made at Lot 3 restaurant next door, or perhaps for a different evening! Definitely not following the Nordstrom of customer service model!
The restaurant was very loud, the food was mediocre and the service was terrible. We got there early and the people in front of us with no reservation were seated immediately but the hostess said our table was not ready (even though there were many empty tables) so we went to the bar and after a long wait for anyone to bring us menus or even acknowledge us, we ordered food & wine. When they came to get us they said that we had to cash out for the bar items and couldn’t transfer to our bill, which is something we were told e could do when we first walked in. The hostess simply said “Well they shouldn’t have told you that.” She proceeded to sit us at a table that was empty when we walked in. We ordered another app and wine and we did not receive our wine for about 40 mins. We were at or table for an hour and a half total, mostly because of the slow service. We have been to Purple Bellevue previously and also to the two other locations and had a pleasant experience, but after this one we will not be returning.
We booked a reservation here for a double date, but unfortunately a couple of things went wrong. There was a much larger party (bachelorette?) that was taking up our waiters time, so we had our service switched a couple of times, and no one seemed to know if we had ordered or not. One waiter spilled a full glass of water over someone in our group, and not much was done besides some towels being brought over. I received the special risotto with scallops, but the scallops were really overdone, but the risotto itself was wonderful, so I didn't complain. Overall, not the experience we wanted to share with our friends, and for how much we spent, we could go somewhere else and be treated a lot better.
We had an awesome experience here in Bellevue. We often visit the Seattle location. We wanted to try somewhere different and was not disappointed!! Loved the Bellevue location! Loved the people and the menu! Loved the shrimp and frites. It’s not at the Seattle location and was very delighted to see it on the Bellevue menu! Loved our server! She was patient and kind. We had young one with us and she was great! We will visit again!

The food was very good. It came out hot and very flavorful. The service was another issue. We ordered cocktails and wine and appetizers to start. The appetizers came to our table at least 5 minutes before the drinks arrived. When I mentioned to our waitress, she smiled and spun it to be a good thing. At the time she took our main course selection, we had finished the appetizers (dirty plates all over the table), she took our menus, but did not pick up the used plates. I flagged her down next time I saw her to take away the dirty plates. She was not on the ball at all. I rarely leave a small tip, this time 10% ONLY.
Food great- not the best service. Waiter gave us the wrong wines for the table and luckily my husband has a great palate and recognized and gave me the merlot that was handed to him instead. We only ordered starters to share versus other tables with larger tabs and our waiter as a result gave us the short end of the service. Food and ambiance good.
The food is artisan and the restaurant is unique and brings you to a whole new level of trendy dinning. Their wine list is insane and I like the recommendations they suggest with every dish on the menu. The flights of wine were fun and the meat and cheese were delightful. The service was fantastic and the servers were very knowledgeable with the wine list.
my only compliant: I have to drive 2 hours from canada to seattle to dine at my fave new restaurant. Purple cafe come to canada!
