About Puritan & Company
Puritan & Company serves modern American cuisine, with particular emphasis on traditional New England fare, and not without occasional excursions into other ethnic ingredients and styles. Our mainstays are ingredients sourced from farms we know and locally to the extent possible, and always a sense of fun.
Our dining room is a casual and fun place to dine. We love to share our excitement about the food and wine we serve like we would in our own home. Guests and their friends should feel comfortable in our friendly and even familial environment as we make our food and guest the number one focus.

Puritan & Company Ratings and Reviews
Celebrated a birthday dinner at Puritan & Co, small party but 3 generations: teen, middle aged, and elderly. Hostess immediately gave us an excellent table and very kindly turned the speaker down, without being asked. Servers were friendly and helpful, and completely unstuffy. Tasting menu was delightful, and sparked a lot of good conversation. I will agree with some other reviewers that it's a bit on the salty side. Excellent wine list. Very cool look and feel but still comfortable if you aren't looking for "scene". Can't wait to go back!
We enjoyed Puritan & Company and overall it was a pleasant experience. The location is direct street front so I’m not sure how parking works. The atmosphere is vintage look, tables are spaced well and noise tends to echo a bit because the walls are much like a warehouse feel. Conversation was still easy so that was a plus.
The menu for Sunday brunch is quite simple almost too limited. The pastry basket was absolutely delicious. The entrees were really standard eggs dish, steak and eggs was a favorite. The Patty melt did not live up to its blue plate special name. It was prepared in a healthy way so I’m not sure we’d order a healthy patty melt again. 🤔
Service was spotty. Our waiter was okay, not friendly or even kind. Just the basics and we waited too long for refills, extras etc.
if the service improved and we stuck to what they do best I’d eat there again.
My boyfriend and I went here for my birthday. We had the chef's tasting menu and it was fantastic - every course was delicious! We loved the seasonal ingredients and the fact that a lot of the food is homemade. The service was also great - the staff was attentive without being overbearing. The decor and atmosphere is very rustic and cozy. I would certainly recommend.
Some of our dishes were good, but a few were very salty. The food took quite a long time and the pacing was odd. We received our shared appetizer before getting bread to go with it. The waiter disappeared at the end of our meal despite our request for the check. Might return to sit at the bar and for some of the appetizers, but I do not think the food and ambiance was worth the price.
I have been to this restaurant twice - once for a birthday dinner and once for brunch.
Overall the dinner was a good experience. The food at dinner was delicious (although pricey) and the cocktails were exceptional.
However, when I went back for brunch we were one of the first tables to be seated, and we noticed immediately that the music was very loud, especially given how few diners were in the room. When we talked to the manager to request that the volume be lowered, she was very defensive and essentially told us that this was the volume they used for brunch and implied that we could either deal with it or we could leave. We ended up staying but it was pretty difficult to maintain a conversation throughout the meal. The food itself at brunch was fine, although my meal was a little cold by the time it got to me (it seemed like perhaps it had been sitting for a while) and the house-made pastries were delicious. No issues with the service either.
One other thing to be aware of is that they charge a mandatory 3% kitchen staff fee on top of their already expensive prices.
I would recommend going here for cocktails and appetizers after work, but I am probably not likely to come here again for a full meal.
Coming to Puritan & Company is our anniversary tradition, now in our fourth year--maybe it has stuck because it simply does not disappoint! I think consistency is a difficult thing to achieve for a restaurant, but of all the many we have been to over the years, Puritan & Company somehow just gets it right. There are a select few restaurants in Boston that we consider our top three... And while they're all different, we'd each choose Puritan & Company as our favorite! The space is inviting and chic at the same time, the staff is just gracious and warm and completely efficient, and the food is simple but elegantly prepared at the same time! Many thanks to all those that make this happen every day!
The pristinely clean and fresh environs with a decidedly non Puritan beverage menu invited our multi-generational party to this Sunday brunch reservation and it did not disappoint. Everyone ordered different options and all boasted happy palates afterward. Our wait staff managed that graceful balance of attentiveness and speed without hovering or pressuring. If one thing could be changed, I would wish it quieter for easier conversation.
We had a reservation for 3, and they easily accommodated us for 4 since we grew. That was great. I've only ever heard amazing things about this place, so I was very excited to check it out. However, the meals and the prices didn't match. The atmosphere was lacking. There are better options in the area for price and food. The staff was very friendly and accommodating.
Everything was so amazing that my standards bar has shifted and I really haven't seen that happen since the one week, when I went to Cedric Maupillier's, Mintwood Place in D.C. and Barbara Lynch's, Menton here in Boston, respectively.
I will forever now only drink a Gin and Tonic at Puritan. Their recipe is so perfect. It ruined me to have it anywhere else.
Their kitchen delivers visuals of interest, exactness in technique and creativity in flavor. You think you know what you are in for but you have no clue. Buckle up baby--- put your hands up --- and enjoy the ride!
Their staff is kind, happy to be at work and thrilled to lead you on a journey of fun- if you let them. And the restaurant is full of all ages of guests and no one feels disconnected or lost. That is what happens when the front of the house is run on par, with the back of the house.
Now I know I am setting myself up to never find an available table here again, but really it is James Beard Award winning quality at half the price. And for those who look at price as a concern, then run here, you will feel spoiled and special. For everyone else, what are you waiting for?
I will be the girl with the G&T, bowing to the kitchen, saying "I'm not worthy" in my best Wayne's World voice, who eventually and reluctantly will go home after many plates, but with my leftovers in a box marked cleverly with "Thurs Lunch <3 Puritan & Co" smiling like the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland, plotting my next appearance.
We have been going to Puritan & Company for brunches and dinners whenever we visit Somerville and Cambridge. We love the food and the atmosphere of the place. The pastry baskets for brunch are absolutely delicious and the dinner rolls are to die for. There are great meat and seafood dishes as well as vegetarian creations using local ingredients. Don't worry if your diet is gluten free - plenty to chose from and the chef would alter some dishes from the menu for you.
We started frequenting the place about 2 weeks after they had opened and we have been happy to have a meal there whenever possible since.
Fresh, fun, and innovative are the things that come to mind. It is so good that we all were wondering "can we try to duplicate that at home?",but then realizing there was no chance. Good color, everything cooked to perfection, and I cannot emphasize the innovative flavors in the sauces. An epicurean experience!
Kitchen had some issues and Sunday night prime rib didn't live up to our expectations. Prime rib good but all the other accoutrements dissapointed...over-held dry gougeres, dull twice baked potato, icky beans, not good desserts. Beers and cocktails great and great swordfish.
Best dining experience!
From the inviting host, to the lovely and knowledgeable server and the great sommelier that picked the most perfect bubbly, to the delightful and delicious menu, our dinner and our experience was awesome. Thank you Puritan & Co. you are doing everything right!
We had a very enjoyable meal at Puritan & Co. to celebrate a new job. The service was excellent - waters filled, napkins refolded, brought a candle with dessert. The AC was blasting so bring a jacket in the summer! The 6-course Chef's tasting was delicious- we started with super fluffy bread, followed by cold watermelon and cucumber gazpacho (probably our least favorite course but not bad). Then we had corn flan with heirloom tomatoes which was smooth and creamy, followed by a serving of salmon with charred Japanese egglant puree. This was followed by a wonderful orecchiette with shishito peppers (most peppers were fine but we got one extra spicy one that was a bit too much), and then pork with carrots. Finally we finished off with a dessert including olive oil cake, panna cotta, and sorbet. We were really full and satisfied by the end. They went out on a limb with the flavor combinations and the results ranged from meh to amazing, but everything was cooked to perfection, especially the salmon and orecchiette. We were lucky to find a great deal on Gilt but now that I've tested it out, I'd be willing to pay full price for a special occasion.
