Puritan & Company Ratings and Reviews
Family and other artifacts help provide a nice, comfortable setting for a mostly delicious brunch: a fried egg w/cheese on a thick brioche w/tater tots (variably salted); chunky corned beef hash with a very good aioli and salad. The highlight of the pastry basket was an excellent chocolate croissant (apparently phyllo). The negative was a chocolate donut that had a very good ganache exterior but a dull, dry spongy chocolate interior. The coffee was good. The service was excellent, friendly.
Excellent restaurant. We came here on a Saturday night and had a wonderful experience. The ambiance was lovely - almost like an old farmhouse. The volume of the restaurant was great, I could hear my boyfriend and was not distracted by the other couples at their table. We tried a couple of the small plates -all were delicious. He had the skirt steak and I had the halibut - both perfeclty well done. Great service - definitely would go back again!
My girlfriend and I loved our experience. Everything was awesome. Our waiter, Rich, was super friendly and knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. We didn't care for the texture of the cartilage of the pig's ear in one of the dishes. But that's just a personal preference, you may love cartilage. We can't wait to go back!
Puritan brunch is absolutely to die for. It helps to make a reservation whatever meal you are eating because this place gets busy quick! Every single thing on the menu is delicious, and the price is about what is expected for the quality of food. But if you want to experience great food for cheap, Tuesday nights are $1 oysters! Highly recommend this place (but secretly hope not too many people find out about it because I want to keep it all to myself!)
It was out five year anniversary and upon hearing this, the staff brought over complimentary champagne and congratulations along with compliments on our appearance. We were excited to try the 6-course chef's tasting and we were very pleased with it. Halibut ceviche with perfect citrus pieces added, lobster stew with tasty chunks of lobster and perfect mix of flavors, housemade cavatappi with peas and a parsnip puree that was our favorite part of the meal, moxie-glazed lamb belly (who thinks of that?) and it was great but a little strange, skirt steak prepared with just the right sauce, and finished it off with flourless brownie with molasses ice cream. The only thing I may do differently there is to have a 4 or 5 course instead of 6 because we were SO FULL! The portions were mostly appropriate, but there was still so much food! All the staff was great and informative to us, but considering our special occasion and how much we spent, it would have been polite for he manager to come over and talk to us after we saw him chatting with another older couple who didn't do the chef's tasting.
Everything we had was delicious. We went on a Sunday when they had "southern Sunday". Half the menu was inspired by the chef's time spent in Charleston, SC. We started with oysters and fried chicken. The fried chicken had some lemon zest and I don't know what else, but it was perfect. My gf was hoping they served it with sauce on the side, but we both agreed after a bite, that it didn't need anything else.
For mains we got the scallops and pork steak. Both were cooked and season perfectly - the added bonus were the sides which were unique and fit well. Loved it.
We got the tasting menu and everything on it was delicious. You have the choice of customizing it with items that you like from the menu or you can ask the chef to pick for you, which is what we did. We were pleasantly at each dish- there were six courses, all delicious, and the portion sizes were much bigger (but not too big) than typical tasting menus. No complaints. And our waitress was lovely and friendly. Will come back for sure!
I wanted to take my friend to an awesome brunch place in Cambridge and Puritan & Company was perfect! The decor was quirky and fun and the food was absolutely outstanding. My friend ordered the quiche and said it was the best quiche she has ever had. It was unbelievably creamy and just scrumptious. I had the broccoli and cheddar scramble, with a side of bacon and while it was a bit of a traditional meal, it was beautifully done. My boyfriend had the hash and it was a cast-iron skillet of deliciousness. I have two small drawbacks: the bloody marys we ordered were really just ok and my friend's tea cost an astonishing $5. That is a little much, even if it is served in a cute teapot.
We had been looking forward to trying Puritan for some time, so finally we booked brunch on Father's Day. We had a very mixed experience. The space is quite inviting. The cocktails quite good - best Bloody Mary we've had.
The vinaigrette on the salad - wonderful. But the quiche was shrunken, re- re-heated, and quite sad. I sent it back. Cheddar-broccoli scramble was uninventive. The croissants soggy. The service uneven. Sadly, we won't be back.
We did the chef's tasting menu-- it was phenomenal! A great way to try a number of the more interesting dishes on the menu. Particularly delicious were the swordfish pastrami, the cavatappi, and the squid. The scallops were beautifully cooked. One note: the portions were a little larger than we were prepared for (no crime here), so if you plan on partaking in the 6 course tasting menu, be sure to come hungry!
Great experience - in town for an event at MIT and I found this restaurant after looking at reviews of local eateries. We had Beef tartare which was plated liked a work of art and tasted every bit as good as it looked, fried green tomatoes which were also outstanding, scallops which my wife said were the best she has ever had and squid which was good but didn't stand up as well as the other three dishes. Service was great as well - my wife asked about two roses and our server brought both bottles and let my wife taste and decide. Overall great experience!
It's a special occasion and you want superb food and service, give this place a go because the food is out of this world. I have seen molecular gastronomy, but Puritan & Company offers that and the traditional feel for the plates. The flavors were abundant. Probably the only thing I wouldn't recommend is the pork. I would definitely visit if I were to come back to Cambridge.
From the outstanding service of our waiter to the creative food- Puritan and Co will not disappoint. We had a fantastic meal. Lamb belly , farm egg salad, scallop crudo, beef tartare, all excellent. Chocolate semi fredo was one of the best we've had. Go to Puritan and co and enjoy!!
Though the menu was limited, we managed to find good choices for appetizers and and entrees. The oysters had some shells in a couple of the servings. But otherwise were tasty. The bar has very limited alcohol choices. But the beer and wine list was adequate. The space is lovely and even though a large group had reserved the front space, we were not disturbed by them.
It was an immense pleasure dining at Puritan & Co. We are visiting from Australia and our host recommended Puritan. The Bibb Lettuce dish was light and refreshing, while the Ricotta Cavatelli was simply delicious. My husband was in 7th heaven over Puritan's scallop dishes which he had for entree and main meal. The desserts were delicious and light.
The Wine Director is passionate about wines and his recommendations were spot on. The service staff were attentive and helpful.
We enjoyed our experience so much that we are going to Puritan for brunch today before heading to New York.
This was my first time at Puritan and Co. The food was excellent. I was there with 6 people and we all loved what we had and finished every bite - this included the scallops which were cooked perfectly, the roasted chicken, the steak, and a special (shrimp and grits). All of the dishes had wonderful flavors. The negative: our server was very off-putting. She immediately made us aware of her knowledge of wine and food in a way that came off as very superior. I found her to be condescending and awkward in her interactions. The food was so good that I would like to go back, but the service does make me hesitant. A restaurant of this caliber should have staff who are knowledgable but also gracious and helpful. If the management is fine with servers who behave the way ours did, I question whether I want to go back.
