Pure South Dining is founded on philosophy of Ethical, Sustainable and Provenance driven produce, championing Tasmanian farmers, fishermen and small producers. The best in season produce is flown from the islands of King, Flinders & Tasmanian directly to our Southbank kitchen.

Pure South Dining offers our guests two dining options to suite any occasion.

The ground floor Pure South Kitchen is our casual riverside bistro offering classics from morning till late. Enjoy our Tassie produce without the fuss, while you look out to the Southbank promenade, sipping cocktails with friends.

Ascend the stairs to the Pure South Dining Room, for a modern fine dining experience, with stunning views of the Yarra River & Melbourne's skyline. Dine a la carte, or embark on a culinary journey with our six-course tasting menu. Our in house sommelier is on hand to guide you through our extensive wine list, with over 400 bottles highlighting Tassie Chardonnay & Pinot Noir.

9 Wines | 5 Courses | Ten Minutes by Tractor Join us on Friday 20th of June in the Pure South Dining Room for an intimate evening with Ten Minutes by Tractor. Our head sommelier is working closely with the wine making team, to bring you some of Ten Minute by Tractor's best vintages including 2019 Late Disgorged Blanc de Blanc, 2023 McCutcheon Pinot Noir and Coolart 2023 Block D Pinot Noir. Ten Minutes by Tractor is the convergence of wine journeys that began almost 40 years ago with a group of individuals and vineyards that fortuitously came together over time to create the winery that exists today, all of which were a ten minute tractor ride apart. On June 20, this extraordinary history will collide with a bespoke Tasmanian inspired menu by Executive Chef David hall and their team. Expect to see Eddie Hanslow's game birds, alongside Fred Perry's King Island Beef, all thoughtfully paired with the cool climate wines from the Mornington Peninsula. This event is limited to 60 tickets to ensure an intimate evening.

This is a very good restaurant. The quality of the ingredients was 5 star. Not sure that all the combination of them worked but the food was interesting. Recommend the food. We have mixed feelings about the ambience: the muzak was dreadful and detracted from the evening's experience. Better to have silence than garbage music. The acoustics of the restaurant are great which means one is able to have good conversation without shouting and the volume level of the music was good- just the music itself was not. The staff were attentive but not intrusive, though the waiter was a bit argumentative (always surprising in a restaurant). Also, if wiping down a table, after a main course (or indeed any course) please ensure your cloth is clean enough that it doesn't leave smears on the table, or why wipe down the table?

We had the degustation menu with paired wines. Every dish was wonderful. The wines were well matched and very generous. Lovely meal.

Booked for dinner before going to see the MSO at Hamer Hall. Have done this many times before and it's been excellent. Show starts at 19:30. Table booked for 18:00. We arrived on time. After waiting politely to be served - noting there were only 2 other tables occupied I eventually had to ask for the menus. The food eventually arrived at 19:10, a hour hour and ten minutes after we arrived. We had 10 minutes to eat our dinner and just make the start of the show. And I wouldn't mind, but when I booked on line, I specifically mentioned we had a show starting at 19:30, and even said the same to the lady who called to confirm our booking. Utter disappointment - whilst the food was amazing we couldn't enjoy it in the 10 minutes we had left to eat it. Understandably this took the edge off what was supposed to be a special night out. I will struggle to book here again with any confidence.

The service from start to finish was on point. Every contact we had from being seated to waited upon all evening was top notch! The food ... delicious. Shared oysters for a starter. Steak was prepared exactly how we asked for it. The cod was perfectly cooked. Carrots & chips for sides. We did get carried away with ordering but loved trying it all. If you can fit it in the tarte de tan is a must - we couldn't of course but got a take home to enjoy today! Definitely a restaurant we will be coming g back to and bringing out friends. Oh...also got a special "happy birthday" plate of truffles. Lovely touch :)

Food was great! i ordered the pasta with the beef ragu which was amazing. We ordered the Spring Vale rose which i had on a previous visit to Pure South and it was just right. A really lovely rose that wasn't really dry. The food is always good and great value for money....this place is my new favourite Southgate restaurant

It may have been one of the worst meals I have had out in a long time I had the fettuccine carbonara which was so salty it couldn't be eaten. I tried to eat what I could but could even eat half. My friend had the gnocchi it was the complete other end of the scale and was way too sweet. I advised the waitstaff about the fettuccine but was just told they would advise the kitchen. This may have been the worst $150 ever spent
