Punk's Simple Southern Food
Great service always. Juan was my server for the 2nd time, and he was just as amazing as the first. The manager also stopped and chatted with us for a bit. Food and drinks were delicious.
Amazing birthday dinner for my daughter and friends!
Always a pleasant experience
Great atmosphere, our server was attentive, and from what I could tell, the chicken and waffles was “the dish”. I would definitely like to return.
Wonderful service, yummy food and fun atmosphere for my mom’s birthday celebration! She wanted to watch football while eating and there were plenty of tv’s. We went on a Sunday, so some in our group ordered brunch. Food ordered: Appetizer platter, 3 piece crispy buttermilk fried chicken, crispy chicken and waffle, Charleston stack, pecan crusted chicken, fried catfish basket & the egg plate. No complaints whatsoever!! We also had a Michelada, frozen sangria, hopped old fashion & a Lynchburg lemonade for cocktails. All of the drinks were very good, but the hopped old fashion just tasted like a regular old fashioned. They brought my mom out a surprise birthday treat: cotton candy in a glass with a sparkler candle! I had ordered a side of collard greens on the side with my fried chicken and it was never brought out but was on the bill. When we mentioned this to our server, she must have notified the manager because they brought out a complimentary order of greens to go (with a side of corn bread!) so I could try them. Amazing customer service and the food is always wonderful!!!! Will be back soon!
I was very disappointed. We had reservations and had to wait even though there were several open tables. We were sat next to a large party that had several kids. The kids were running around, throwing food on the floor, one of them even tried to take something off another dinners table. Our waitress was awful. She could not answer anything about the drink menu and barely about the food menu. I ordered chicken my fiancee ordered catfish. We had to wait 40 minutes for our food. I think that's ridiculous. Our french fries were cold. The chicken I ordered was incorrect. I was given all white meat except for a leg that was not cooked all the way. The 2 split breast skin was a tad burnt. We specified to our waitress that my fiancee could not eat citrus, she brought back a drink that had an orange slice on it and had the nerve to say oh its only on the glass. Lastly the lady who was busting our table didn't even wait for us to leave before she started grabbing things from our table. Very disappointing.
Everything was fantastic for my party of five. The general manager, Grant and the waiter, Juan were more than accommodating and super friendly. The food was flavorful and just what we were looking for in a Sunday brunch. I specifically like the fried chicken, black eyed peas and the key lime pie!
After taking a look at the menu online, we decided to visit Punk's for Sunday brunch. Three of us tried the Chicken and Waffles and the 4th in our group ordered the breakfast tacos. Everything was delicious, the portions large, and the service friendly and fast. I would definitely return to sample some other of their offerings, as everything on the menu looked amazing.
Everything was good. The food was delicious. I also like the staff was dressed up for Halloween. I was satisfied!
16th birthday celebration
I would recommend, only because the food is excellent and so is the ambience, including the outdoor space. But, honestly, I would mention to anyone the service was horrendous on our first visit there. I mean, for as many people working there, several times, customers had to actually go get whatever they ordered, or they simply just could not flag down the server. I mean, it was obnoxiously poor service. Not just an off night, but no one seemed to care or even resembled caring. It was very strange.
Punk's has such gracious staff, nice music that's not too loud, indoor-outdoor seating, play area out back for kids of all sizes. My favorite thing to eat there is the hushpuppies with 2 delicious sauces!
Great Family atmosphere
Great place to take the family. Especially nice on a nice day when the kids can run around the green space. Lots of TVs to watch the game, too, from pretty much anywhere you're sitting. One of the best burgers in the city.
Took the family for lunch at Punk’s. Very good upscale comfort food. I would highly recommend. Chicken was moist and delicious. Perhaps a touch too much rosemary at the front of the taste and I’d prefer a bit more kick of hot spice to balance. The shrimp and grits were very good with nice creole sauce. This is a nice addition to the Rice Village food scene.
Went to watch the Astros game. It was perfect because we had front row seats to the big screen and were by the bar and could also watch on those tvs. We didn’t want a bar because we wanted good food. We had the pimento dip, fried deviled eggs, combo fried chicken, mac & cheese and collared greens. Loved the appetizers. I had the split breast which was very small. I would have ordered the full breast for an up charge. My friend loved the greens. I thought they and the mac & cheese were ok. Would definitely go back! And it’s a great place to watch a game.
My family and I had such a great time. We will definitely be back.
We celebrated our anniversary, my daughter's boyfriend meeting more of the family, and our daughter-in-law as a newly minted U.S. citizen. The food and service was superb. Our server was terrific, and the owner came out to greet us with goodwill and congratulations. I highly recommend Punk's Simple Southern Food. We'll visit again for sure.
Great place for a family friendly birthday dinner.
We ate outside w the kids having an absolute blast in the back play area!!!
Great food and fantastic staff. I had the gluten free shrimp & grits, and it was delicious! It's my fourth time here but won't be the last.
Great service, good food,
Definitely time well spent! The service was amazing and the Sunday Fried Chicken and Champagne was a great deal with unlimited chicken, sides and Vueve Clicquot!
Great fried chicken and outstanding biscuits.
Service could be a little sharper, but everyone is very friendly.
Will definitely be going back because the chicken is soooo good.
Best fried chicken spot in Houston hands down
Would recommend this place
Attentive staff, good food.
Drinks took a little time. Server was dragging chairs and tables across the room to set up and made a ton of noise in an otherwise peaceful, relaxing environment.
Always love Charles restaurants / don’t go to Punks often, but sure fits the bill when time for that fix!! Great service and great food!
Super yummy. We had the salmon salad, fried chicken, grits and collard greens. Everything was delicious. The patio was great with fans and we just loved it.
Punk's Simple Southern Food is a great place to go. It is a must go to place.
We were readily greeted and quickly seated upon entry. The individual, who I assumed was the manager, seen we had been sitting without drinks. She asked if we had been helped. We were not so she quickly took our drink and appetizer order. Just as she did, the waitress came to the table and we were sure to let her know. The server came back to take our order and readily put it in for us. It did take a longer duration for our drinks to come to the table; however, the manage quickly addressed the situation. The food was good! Good hush puppies, good chicken, and good Mac and cheese! The southern hospitali-tea drink was also a good choice if you enjoy vodka. They played good music in the restaurant but it wasn’t too loud that you couldn’t hear the person sitting across from you. Good atmosphere and good food. I definitely would return or recommend this place to others.
Great food and service!!
Very nice place. I thought the catfish and grits was excellent. Perfect for Sunday brunch.
Great casual restaurant with wonderful southern style food selections.
This was my 1st visit. There's valet parking for $6 & garage parking. I paid $3 for less than a 2 hour time period there. Not many people there. Went straight to bar - took just under 10 minutes for someone to tend to me. (Maybe they were giving me a chance to check out the menu...IDK, but a glass of water would've been nice. Finally, I was acknowledged, ordered a drink (Punk's Lemonade) - $10, it okay. For dinner I had the chicken tenders . Asked my server for her feedback regarding the side
options, she stated if I was looking for 'your Grandma's mac'n'cheese, then this ain't it but it's good". So I decided on that, along with the collard greens. Surprisingly, the greens had more flavor than the mac, which was just okay. The tenders lacked seasoning & the gravy was nice and thick but lacked flavor. Overall, I liked the decor - nice, upbeat music played in the background but the food was kind of boring. I'm in no rush to go back but am willing to give them another try.
I had my birthday dinner at this restaurant and the service was amazing. We were able to be seated before majority of my party arrived. We were told ahead of time about the possible ticket delays due to it being a large party with multiple separate tickets. accommodations were made when more people than expected arrived and we were informed about their house specials ahead of time. Great service and great location!!
The restaurant was so nice. It was my first time there. I was celebrating my birthday. They were so accommodating when I had to add more people to my party at the last minute. The food was so great and the drinks were wonderful. I will be visiting again for brunch. Thank you for making my birthday so special
Great food! Parking is an issue, but they have valet. Love the fried chicken!!
The food and service for Sunday Brunch was excellent. I had gone a couple of times in the past and can’t recall the food being this delicious. Something has definitely changed for the better.
Went for a girls birthday celebration! Great brunch spot!
Great atmosphere for enjoying good southern cooking with a twist.
