Punk's Simple Southern Food
Great Family atmosphere
Great place to take the family. Especially nice on a nice day when the kids can run around the green space. Lots of TVs to watch the game, too, from pretty much anywhere you're sitting. One of the best burgers in the city.
Took the family for lunch at Punk’s. Very good upscale comfort food. I would highly recommend. Chicken was moist and delicious. Perhaps a touch too much rosemary at the front of the taste and I’d prefer a bit more kick of hot spice to balance. The shrimp and grits were very good with nice creole sauce. This is a nice addition to the Rice Village food scene.
Went to watch the Astros game. It was perfect because we had front row seats to the big screen and were by the bar and could also watch on those tvs. We didn’t want a bar because we wanted good food. We had the pimento dip, fried deviled eggs, combo fried chicken, mac & cheese and collared greens. Loved the appetizers. I had the split breast which was very small. I would have ordered the full breast for an up charge. My friend loved the greens. I thought they and the mac & cheese were ok. Would definitely go back! And it’s a great place to watch a game.
My family and I had such a great time. We will definitely be back.
We celebrated our anniversary, my daughter's boyfriend meeting more of the family, and our daughter-in-law as a newly minted U.S. citizen. The food and service was superb. Our server was terrific, and the owner came out to greet us with goodwill and congratulations. I highly recommend Punk's Simple Southern Food. We'll visit again for sure.
Great place for a family friendly birthday dinner.
We ate outside w the kids having an absolute blast in the back play area!!!
Great food and fantastic staff. I had the gluten free shrimp & grits, and it was delicious! It's my fourth time here but won't be the last.
Great service, good food,
Definitely time well spent! The service was amazing and the Sunday Fried Chicken and Champagne was a great deal with unlimited chicken, sides and Vueve Clicquot!
Great fried chicken and outstanding biscuits.
Service could be a little sharper, but everyone is very friendly.
Will definitely be going back because the chicken is soooo good.
Best fried chicken spot in Houston hands down
Would recommend this place
Attentive staff, good food.
Drinks took a little time. Server was dragging chairs and tables across the room to set up and made a ton of noise in an otherwise peaceful, relaxing environment.
Always love Charles restaurants / don’t go to Punks often, but sure fits the bill when time for that fix!! Great service and great food!
Super yummy. We had the salmon salad, fried chicken, grits and collard greens. Everything was delicious. The patio was great with fans and we just loved it.
Punk's Simple Southern Food is a great place to go. It is a must go to place.
We were readily greeted and quickly seated upon entry. The individual, who I assumed was the manager, seen we had been sitting without drinks. She asked if we had been helped. We were not so she quickly took our drink and appetizer order. Just as she did, the waitress came to the table and we were sure to let her know. The server came back to take our order and readily put it in for us. It did take a longer duration for our drinks to come to the table; however, the manage quickly addressed the situation. The food was good! Good hush puppies, good chicken, and good Mac and cheese! The southern hospitali-tea drink was also a good choice if you enjoy vodka. They played good music in the restaurant but it wasn’t too loud that you couldn’t hear the person sitting across from you. Good atmosphere and good food. I definitely would return or recommend this place to others.
Great food and service!!
Very nice place. I thought the catfish and grits was excellent. Perfect for Sunday brunch.
Great casual restaurant with wonderful southern style food selections.
This was my 1st visit. There's valet parking for $6 & garage parking. I paid $3 for less than a 2 hour time period there. Not many people there. Went straight to bar - took just under 10 minutes for someone to tend to me. (Maybe they were giving me a chance to check out the menu...IDK, but a glass of water would've been nice. Finally, I was acknowledged, ordered a drink (Punk's Lemonade) - $10, it okay. For dinner I had the chicken tenders . Asked my server for her feedback regarding the side
options, she stated if I was looking for 'your Grandma's mac'n'cheese, then this ain't it but it's good". So I decided on that, along with the collard greens. Surprisingly, the greens had more flavor than the mac, which was just okay. The tenders lacked seasoning & the gravy was nice and thick but lacked flavor. Overall, I liked the decor - nice, upbeat music played in the background but the food was kind of boring. I'm in no rush to go back but am willing to give them another try.
I had my birthday dinner at this restaurant and the service was amazing. We were able to be seated before majority of my party arrived. We were told ahead of time about the possible ticket delays due to it being a large party with multiple separate tickets. accommodations were made when more people than expected arrived and we were informed about their house specials ahead of time. Great service and great location!!
The restaurant was so nice. It was my first time there. I was celebrating my birthday. They were so accommodating when I had to add more people to my party at the last minute. The food was so great and the drinks were wonderful. I will be visiting again for brunch. Thank you for making my birthday so special
Great food! Parking is an issue, but they have valet. Love the fried chicken!!
The food and service for Sunday Brunch was excellent. I had gone a couple of times in the past and can’t recall the food being this delicious. Something has definitely changed for the better.
Went for a girls birthday celebration! Great brunch spot!
Great atmosphere for enjoying good southern cooking with a twist.
Phenomenal, but the all you can chicken and champagne wasn’t a great vslue
Sunday night special for all-you-can-eat/drink fried chicken and champagne was a very good deal. They brought out all the food we wanted, and we could ask for extra breasts or wings, etc. All freshly prepared and very good. The champagne pours were in small glasses, but our waiter was pretty good about trying to keep them full; only a few incidents were we had to wave to get more. Save room for the banana pudding if you can! We had stopped going to Punk's a couple years ago and this has brought us back.
have been here multiple times. service excellent; food outstanding. perfect for bringing company whose needs were as follows.....brunch, dog friendly and ability to watch sports.
Fried Chicken & Champagne Sunday special was so good. One of the few places we’ve been to where all you can eat & drink really means that. Our server never let our glasses get empty and brought more sides and chicken as soon as we asked.
My friend and I wanted to try a new brunch spot and I’m so glad we chose Punk’s! The fried pickles were a great appetizer and the chicken and waffles did not disappoint. My favorite part about our visit was the customer service. All of the staff were so nice and our waitress was very knowledgeable. I can’t wait to go back and try the shrimp and grits!
The best things about this place is the fried chicken and the owner, I love it when management is out there with the floor staff talking to patrons and helping to ensure each diner has the best experience, staff is knowledgeable on the menu with awesome suggestions, I have yet to have an unpleasant experience from brunch with friends to a dinner for 2, its an awesome experience every time!
The atmosphere is very friendly and the food is great!
Don’t miss the hush puppies. A great warm-up for a great southern comfort food meal.
The fried chicken is fabulously from somewhere in the 50’s. Can be order by the piece, so have a wing or share a thigh with the hush puppies.
And a great wine-by-the -glass selection.
Great customer service and food
i came for my birthday I was very disappointed I had come for christmas for our christmas party and the food was awesome
This time the food was cold the amount changed of the chicken the waffle was not done and coffee was cold the other guest had to send back food and got waffles and chicken that was hot and look better than mine
I was very sad because I has been waiting for the chicken for A WEEK
The food was good, lot of healthy options as well, but that banana pudding... yum!
The customer service and conflict resolution from management was horrible. There was a parking issue, because valet was unattended, they were late and not opened yet. The only resolvent that four managers who were conversing on the side of the restaurant and acting like new college students who just graduated from high school was to inconvenience the patron, because they didn't know how to resolved an issue that resulted in an unsatisfied customer leaving their restaurant. I'm sure they didn't care and have an excuse for their unprofessional mismanaged issue. They wanted to smooth over everything by sending the hostess; because your male spokesperson put his foot in his mouth. That was a poor choice for service recovery.
