Pumpkin BYOB Ratings and Reviews
I'd say we've been to Pumpkin 6/7 times now, and as always, fantastic! Smoked beet salad with "everything" spice was one of the best dishes I've had there. Service and pacing perfect, and the staff who have all been there as long as I can remember, just awesome. It really should be in the top 5 restaurant list in Philly, and we have ALLOT of great restaurants! The passion is obvious in the food.
We had another spot on meal this time with guests who are from France and commented how perfectly the scallops were cooked, and how nice the mix of flavors were in our first course. The goat cheese gnocchi and the chic pea soup were delightful. We surprised the restaurant by having an additional guest, and while we were ready to squeeze together, we were seamlessly moved to a larger table which was hugely lucky given the size of Pumpkin. We are grateful that they could accommodate us. We live nearby to Pumpkin and we're always pleased when we can get a reservation and when we can introduce the restaurant to others.
Our family of four visited Pumpkin on Sunday evening and were totally delighted with their 5 course pre fix menu. The entrees were spectacular with incredible combinations of flavor that appealed even to the picky eater. The food was first class. The menu was unique and we are excited to return!
Pumpkin's 5 course Sunday menu is an unparalleled experience in gastronomic bliss. We had enjoyed the fabulous regular menu many times always to great satisfaction but the Sunday tasting menu is something amazing, such a wonderful combination of taste-buds gratification and value. From the green gazpacho (sublime rendition of avocado) to the heavenly monk fish in a broth hat grants workshipping, passing through a tantalizing chicken pate transformed into paint on the plate, to a marvelous lemon blackberry dessert this tasting menus will leave you so satisfied and proud of having such a jewel of a restaurant, without doubts, one of the best, if not the best in Philly. Superb cuisine. We will return asap.
Our reservation was for a Sunday night which is the night they only offer a 5-course prix fixe meal for $45 cash. Each dish was delicious with interesting and creative flavors/ingredients and beautifully plated. The servers were pleasant and attentive. It was the perfect meal for my husband and myself! I look forward to returning soon.
What a pleasant return to Pumpkin. I am sorry we did not get back sooner. The food is to die for. Phenomenal, interesting combinations of flavors and textures. The chef is a real master. A meal to remember and savor. Like the revamped space. A big improvement. Much more comfortable. We will be back .
As always, our meal at Pumpkin was created from seasonal ingredients, mostly local, mostly organic. None of that would matter, of course, if the food were not delicious -- which it reliably is.
Friends from Portland, Oregon, who know good food when they eat it, were impressed by all of our dishes: asparagus with coddled egg, risotto with octopus, chilled carrot soup (starters), scallops and pork tenderloin (mains) and panna cotta with kumquat and orange (dessert).
Food is good and fresh. Rotating menu always changing. The snapper and scallop was great. Service was fast and attentive. The only thing that I did not enjoy was the noise since the place is relatively small seating less than 25 people so the atmosphere is naturally noisy since there are no windows or space to vent the noise.
I recommend this if you are celebrating an occasion with a small group of 3 or 4 and do not mind the noise. Food is fresh, entrée is good size although pricey but appetizer is relatively small.
We always return to Pumpkin for a meal that is both locally sourced, seasonal and always exceptional! My husband, who is usually suspcious of what he calls "fussy food" loves the selections. Cold carrot ginger soup was exquisite. It is a small place, so be on time. The service is prompt, not rushed. Always returning for special dinners!
My wife and I went with our one-year-old son... a recipe for disaster with any fine dining five course meal. I'm not sure what we were thinking. The wait staff at Pumpkin, though, was phenomenal in making us feel comfortable and as though we weren't a bother at all.
The food was exceptional. I generally hate beets and chilled soups, and the only two courses we couldn't deviate from on the menu were a chilled soup and roasted beets. Surprisingly, I ate every single bite because the flavors were balanced
It really is a spectacular restaurant. Go for any occasion. And BYOB!
I was initially skeptical because this is a long established restaurant, worried the food wouldn't be as innovative as a newer place.
But that was a very wrong assumption.
Had the Sunday prix fixe and was delighted by the presentation, experimentation, and quality, with flavors I hadn't yet experienced.
The staff was incredibly warm and kind, which explains why it's a lasting fixture on the dining scene.
Another grand slam from the amazing kitchen at Pumpkin! Shared squid ink risotto with baby octopus and smoked oysters to start - great flavors and perfectly cooked seafood - yum! My spouse had the skate - again perfectly cooked, crispy skin but just done - with lovely (smoked carrot?) purée, and I the scallops. Hers was delicious but mine what the star. Scallops were clearly from that day - almost too sweet! - and the accompanying charred ramps, turnips, bit of tiny pasta and 'angry water' broth were a revelation. Who can make turnips into something you would actually want to eat??? Pumpkin can - they were amazing!!! Though too full for dessert, we happily floated home. As usual, the wait staff were awesome - attentive and interested but unobtrusive and professional. This place remains the best BYO ever!
