Cute and small, seats about 25 people. Menu changes everyday and is all local and fresh. Will definitely be coming back.
Forget the foam. Here is beautifully prepared food, thoughtful pairings of flavors (the sweet potato soup poured over foie gras mousse is nothing short of spectacular), and knowledgeable but not intrusive service. Oh, and who knew butterscotch pudding could change your life? A great night out.

My wife and I had a fantastic experience and dinner at Pumpkin for her birthday. The Almond appetizer special, the sweet potato soup, and the veal Tongue were all marvelous. Both of our dinners (Red Grouper and Veal 3 Ways) were flavorful and unique.
The Warm Chocolate Cake dessert with Passion Fruit Sorbet was one of the best we have ever had.
We can't wait to come back. Thank you
My love for PUMPKIN continues unabated. My guests are always taken aback and end up being fans! Thanks to Ian and his team for always being TOPS.
We went to have dinner because it was my son´s birthday. The plates were very good, with an outstanding presentation. Maybe a litlle small?. The service was very good, kind, and on time. We took our wine, because it is a BYOB Restaurant, The menu is short, with one or two choices of fish, meat and some others.
It is a small place, so it is necessary to make a reservation. (We made it, but as the time we could go was very late for the american use, I think maybe we wouldn´t have needed it). The meat was on the point we asked for, and very tasty; also the fish.
I would definitly recommend it...
The food is very expensive. The ingredients all seem to be very fresh, and the food was cooked well, but the flavors were all very bland. I've had much better steaks for lower prices.
I came for the Sunday night prix fixe, but it was the tail of Restaurant Week, so I got the RW menu -- an even better deal, especially because the chef sent a complimentary bowl of gazpacho. Everything was good, and some of it was excellent. Especial standouts are the gazpacho with pickled watermelon and cucumber sorbet playing off each other; and the fish filet, which was simple without being bland (a problem I've had with some upscale restaurants). The service fell slightly short of excellent when I had to wait a long time for my check and then to get the credit card run, but it was very good: courteous, friendly, but never overbearing or trying to push me to buy more, though I was a party of 1 and not a big check. Highly recommended.
The food here was absolutely amazing! Everything we ordered was perfect. The service was great and very attentive without being overbearing. We will definitely be back!
Went for Restaurant Week, and found everything too precious. Portions are generally small. Entrée choices were bizarre - the chicken sausage entrée was appetizer size, and tasted too garlicky. The fish entree was much better, but the sides were microscopic. A lot of dairy is used in all courses. Service was polite, and the staff is skilled with B.Y.O.B. corkage.
Great little and I mean tiny BYOB. The food was fantastic as well as the service. The ambience is very good, but the space is very small. I highly recommend checking out Pumpkin. This restaurant has been around forever...and there is a reason for that.
Came as part of restaurant week and are we glad we manage to get a table! The food was fabulous and it left us very happy and content. Our server was also very patient with our questions about the various ingredients - where is the fish from? Is the pork from a sustainable farm? Where did you source....you get the idea :)
I'll be back for sure!
We were there for restaurant week...the menu was limited and a bit unusual, but we enjoyed everything, especially the appetizer of cheese pana cotta. Service was exceptional and friendly without being overbearing. Because its a byob, it was a great value.
chef best at his art work
We went for restaurant week and the food and service were great. Our waitress, Nicole, was amazing, very helpful and attentive to us. There wasn't anything that we didn't like about this place. I would definitely recommend it to everyone. Hope you all have the same experience that we had.
My husband and I were in Philadelphia for a meeting and went to Pumpkin. It is a very small restaurant and BYOB, which seems somewhat common here. The food was very good; the gazpacho was FANTASTIC! I would definately go again if in Philly,
Everything about the food, from its presentation to its high quality, was fabulous. The level of service befits the high end dining experience. I cannot get over how good the meals were. Our party of three tried everything and could not have been more delighted. This is an affordable high end dining experience. We will be back.
We really enjoyed our meal here. We started off w/ a tasty yellow gazpacho soup, which was a variety of unusual flavors married well together (sweet, slightly salty, slightly spicy) in a pureed base. I loved it. Fresh bread came w/ a garlic oil and was great.
I then had a softshell crab, which was marvelously piquant. My tablemate enjoyed a chicken sausage entree.
For dessert we both devoured the delicious pot de creme bittersweet chocolate w/ banana and caramel.
The decor is very interesting locally repurposed materials. Although the restaurant is small, it didn't feel crowded to me. It was also a treat that it's a BYOB, so we brought our own wine.
Portions are small so you can try various things and not be stuffed.
Outstanding food and service coming from this small, intimate, BYO, cash only locale. This was our second dining experience at Pumpkin and we'll be back for more of their fresh and well prepared food.
Pumpkin is the place where my husband and I go every time we have something special to celebrate ... the restaurant is cozy, the service is really good and the food is always divine .. the Sunday night fix price 3 course menu is simply amazing .. they use only local fresh ingredients and the dishes are always incredible .. highly recommended for romantic dinners or special occasions
This tiny spot is tucked away on a quieter part of South Street. First of all, the atmosphere was quiet, yet welcoming - the decor of the place was rustic, yet modern and clean.
The food itself was fresh and delicious! I loved everything that was on the set menu (we were in a group of 4 so we had at least one order of each dish available). There were unique combinations and everything was flavorful, colorful and plated beautifully. This place being a BYOB just made everything better.
Only thing I thought was kind of off was that the Restaurant Week menu listed soft shell crab as one of the main dish choices, but was not on the menu when we got there. Just thought I'd point out that they should probably update the menu ASAP.
The food was delicious, all natural, locally grown. Service was very personable, friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Restaurant was very small, 26 people, thus very intimate.
We enjoyed our meal very much. It was fresh and tasty. The server was very nice and explained the ingredients very well. We will try
their pri fiixe on Sunday net time.
Everyone at Pumpkin works hard to make you love their tiny dining gem as much as they do! The food, the service, the atmosphere are all top notch. Bring a great bottle of wine and cash for the check and away you go. A little slice of fresh food heaven in Philadelphia. Enjoy it!
Food was very good. Servings were very small. I guess that is the way it goes in high end restaurants. I think Pumpkin is slightly over--rated. I have wanted to go to Pumpkin for quite a while. Now I have been there. Probably won't go back. My husband went out for a burger after we left Pumpkin! He is a big eater though.
Very small space which explains why it is so hard to get a table at a normal time! Menu changes monthly/seasonally so everything is very fresh. Also BYOB which is never a bad thing...Service was also great. Would absolutely go again and again!
My wife and I come here often, it's one of our favorite restaurants in philly. The food is amazing and the staff is friendly and super helpful.
The staff was attentive but not overbearing! Food was fantastic...
Nice restaurant, excellent service, Good (but not notable) mains. Excellent beet soup starter and wonderful cheese cake desert. Little "wow" in entrees other than their presentation, which was very artistic and beautifully displayed.
I don't understand how this tiny restaurant produces stellar food as such an affordable price. Their prix fixe menu rivals dinners I've had at the finest restaurants. At $40 it is a bargain and BYOB makes it even more affordable. Wonderful, engaging staff. Will definitely visit again!
We had heard so many wonderful things about Pumpkin that we couldn't wait to go there. What a disappointment! The food looked beautiful and I would say cooked perfectly. The problem was that everything was bland. The presentation for the scallops with pea puree was breathtaking but the food basically had no flavor. The other diners in our party had the same experience with their food. The best thing we tried was s tomato corn salad and we also enjoyed our desserts.
Excellent dinnerr at Pumpkin! Food was fresh and prepared beautifully! Service was top notch! Restaurant is VERY small but cozy!
Lovely place and wonderful food. Needs vegetarian choices.
The place was awesome, food was excellent and service was even better. We arrived a bit earlier but we were seated right away. The atmosphere was elegant but yet relaxed. Food came out almost too pretty to eat but rest assured I did anyway and they all tasted better than they looked. I would definitely recommend to a friend or family.
My wife and I returned to Pumpkin over the weekend and it once again delivered tremendously delicious and beautiful cuisine which makes you want to keep returning to this neighborhood gem. My appetizer was the Rhode Island squid which was cooked to perfection and adorned with a delightful lemon puree. The beef tenderloin was succulent and served with a delicious and memorable horseradish sauce. It is always fun to watch newcomers to this restaurant marvel over the beauty and taste of each dish as it is presented to them for the first time. I urge anyone who has not been to Pumpkin to treat themselves to this neighborhood gem.
Sunday diner was even better value then a la carte with the same amazing taste and wonderful service. our favorite place to eat in Philly.
We had overseas guests and had often wanted to go to Pumpkin and we are glad we finally made it. Fully lived up to expectations. Great meal, great service. Will definitely go again.
This was my second time dining at Pumpkin and both times I have gone have been phenomenal. The food is cooked to perfection. The only reason why I gave the service 4 stars instead of 5 was because I had reservations and had to wait 10-15 minutes, while another couple was sat before us. Once we sat down, the service was fabulous. Pumpkin is definitely worth checking out.
Pumpkin has done well to continue operating after 10 years given all the competition. While they aspire to be a top BYO with creative dishes and eye-catching presentations, their execution sometimes slips and this is a shame since they could be a destination, go-to restaurant by cranking it a up notch from an upscale neighborhood eatery. We had the $40 Sunday prix fixe deal which is pretty good value, though portions are precious (meaning small) so you'll need all 5 courses, including cheese plate, to fill up on. Highlights: delicious pureed beet soup; pork belly; skate; butterscotch pudding; almond financier; perhaps the best coffee I've had at a philly restaurant. Duck was way oversalted - big faux pas! Fruitdemer was rather bland, chewy.
