What a nice evening at Pumpkin! Really delicious and relaxing. The oysters we're spectacular. I loved my gulf shrimp appetizer, and fish with kale and white beans, but both desserts we chose--the panna cotta and blueberry cake--were among the best I've had. Sitting outside on the warm summer evening was just about perfect.
Monkfish delicious. Husband’s duck had a vein of gristle in middle.
Really wonderful food and presentation. Fantastic service. I’m a foodie.. high expectations. Was so pleased. A Class act in every way. Will be there again very soon.
We ate in the outdoor "streetery" area on a Thursday night. Overall it's a quiet part of South Street but you do get some of the loud passing cars so there is some extra ambience. Considering we live on one of these busy streets, it didn't bother us - normal Thursday to us!
The outdoor seating area is cute! You have to be careful with the tables/chairs due to the street, but it's not a permanent structure so I don't think a restaurant deserves any dings right now for a slightly slanted seating area, haha.
The service was amazing. I have never really had this price-fixed meal concept before except during restaurant week (I'm ashamed to even admit I've been a part of that), but it works so well, especially combined with being BYOB! You get to enjoy eating out, but you really only have a few interactions with your server to initially get your order and take up/put down dishes here and there. There's no need for them to check if you need another round of drinks, no need to keep the cocktail menu in case you want to change your mind later, and I've already chosen my dessert so no need to bring that menu later and wait around either. It was a really great experience for our first dinner out post-pandemic.
The food was also amazing, but they change the menu so I'm not sure what anyone else will get when they go! I ordered the beet panzanella appetizer, swordfish entree, and lemon poppyseed cake dessert. My husband ordered the shrimp appetizer, pasta entree (that one was originally my choice but the server informed us they subbed the squash for mushrooms that night and mushrooms don't like me as much as I like them so my husband and I traded entree orders), and chocolate cake thing for dessert. All of it was truly amazing - flavorful, different textures, the PERFECT portion sizes. We had difficulty after when we tried naming our favorites.
All in all, an amazing experience and a new favorite in the city. We'll be back!
Far and away the best - and our favorite restaurant in Philadelphia. Food was superb, and exquisitely presented. Service lovely as always. We’ve been treating ourselves to Pumpkin for 17 years, and always can’t wait to be back. Many kudos to Chef Ian and Hilary.
Good every time, love to see how the menu changes. Fairly priced. Great ambiance.
great food & service will be back
Excellent food & service! Can't wait to go back. Thank you!
Excellent food & service!
The food was delicious and the service was terrific. We were seated right on time and they brought the food out promptly. It was a great experience.
Great food, wonderful atmosphere
Enjoyed the Philly outdoor eating experience with a friend after an afternoon at the Flower Show. Staff was super accommodating of a change in our schedule. The food was fabulous as usual and the outdoor table fun. Look forward to my next visit and will be sure to include Pumpkin on the agenda.
Great food but a long wait in between courses
But amazing creative food will be back
Pumpkin never disappoints. Always interesting & delicious food. Chef Ian does magic with ingredients, textures and flavors. One of our favorite dining spots best kept secrets.
A warm welcome by a friendly and professional staff. Each dish is fresh, surprising, executed to perfection and always a delight!
Absolutely incredible. It lived up to our expectations and exceed some more. Service was perfect. The food is superlative. One of the best dining experiences one can have in Philly. Delicious beet panzanella—fresh, with excellent ingredients, fantastic combination of sweet beets and crunchy greens. I have never tasted a more flavorful duck with the freshest artichokes. Skillfully cooked. Desserts were exquisite, refined and deceptively simple. We are so lucky to have Pumpkin.
Nice variety for prix fixe menu.
Interesting, creative, delicious food.
Cozy setting .... But spaced for COVID
This is an extremely expensive dining experience!
Pumpkin's menu offers vibrant, creative and tasteful food, and last night was no different. Shrimp and mussel escabeche, sturgeon with lightly cooked spinach, with flavorful, never discordant seasonings.
Absolutely fabulous meal. Everyone enjoyed their selections. I highly recommend the chilled chickpea soup, sturgeon and chocolate with peanut butter dessert. Service was friendly and efficient. Outdoor seating was very nice on a lovely evening. Can’t wait to be back!
Food was good but not great. All items on prix fix are not equally good..overall good value for money. Service and flexibility for seating was poor very inflexible.
Atmosphere was very nice. It’s a little small but that makes it cozy and romantic. Food was great! Everything tasted so fresh and flavorful. Service was outstanding!! Servers were very friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend.
A friend and I grabbed a bottle of wine and had an early dinner. The three course meal for $50 is a great feature as I don’t like having too many options when I dine out. The restaurant is also within walking distance of a lot of good bars for hanging after. Food and service was on point!
Delicious food! Right size portions, not too small nor big…Very fresh, clean tasting, food items!
The food & service were excellent. Definitely worth the Restaurant Week prices.
I went for restaurant week and was excited by the variety in the menu for the cost. We were sat at our table promptly, the service was great, and the ambience was perfect. The food had unique flavors and was delicious. I’ll definitely come back.
You must visit. We have been four times and the menu never disappoints. Staff is friendly and we will return soon.
What a wonderful experience! Food was absolutely incredible, staff were very nice and attentive, and the place itself was so cute with great atmosphere. The check even came with a little bag of pumpkin seeds! Will absolutely be coming back, and soon!
The food never disappoints! Everything is so fresh and flavorful. The only critique is that we paid for a side of bread and it was totally burnt. If we have to pay for bread, it should not be delivered burnt. Other than that everything was very good.
Service was friendly, helpful and detailed. Food combinations were exciting with the precise amount of herbs & flavor to not be overbearing.
Dined during restaurant week May 2021. Three course meal and everyone in our party enjoyed their selections. Attentive wait staff and lovely atmosphere as we dinned indoors.
Wonderful meal. The food was unique and amazing!
We went during Center City Restaurant Week. All of the choices in the appetizer, entree and dessert categories looked worth ordering. The chickpea soup was refreshing, the shrimp were good and the panna cotta was great. We would go back.
Food was impressive. Great flavor and execution. Will be back soon!
Amazing all around. Stellar food & service. Didn't know it was restaurant week until I made the reservation. Don't know why restaurant week is still a thing during a pandemic, but that was an insane deal at one of the best restaurants in the city. Thanks for a stunning meal with Mom.
Excellent food, service, and ambience. Really fun to try food that I would never cook.
Everything was delicious and lovely
Went for restaurant week and the food was good but slightly underwhelming. The desserts were the best part. Would probably come back to try the full menu but not a lock given RW dishes weren’t as good as expected based on other reviews.
One of my favorite Philly BYOBs, never disappoints!
Great birthday evening outdoors!
