always great! love going for the sunday menu. excellent value
Pumpkin is a delightful BYOB experience! My boyfriend and I dined here Saturday and had the stracciatella and pork belly appetizers, followed by the monk fish and scallop entrees, and ending with the pana cotta and chocolate cake desserts. Everything was absolutely delicious and portion sizes were fine. We can't even pick a favorite dish! Two appetizers, two entrees, and two desserts for just over $100 is a steal in the city as well! The only small negative to this wonderful restaurant is that the space is very tiny, I would not suggest arriving early for your reservation, there really isn't anywhere to wait. I also would not dine here with a party of more than 4 - 6 maximum. We will definitely be back for another date night though!
The flavors were creative, delicate, cohesive and on-point. My only single complaint would be the portions are two small (we are two slim people weighing 140 and 150 lbs...this is not a usual issue for us...one should not leave hungry after three courses and bread.) I highly recommend this creative place for their attention to flavor. Cant wait to visit again.
We've been going to Pumpkin for a dozen years: still our favorite restaurant in Philadelphia. Ian and Co. create the most amazing, exquisite dishes. Thank you!
Food was a little slow but worth the wait!
I don’t want to encourage more diners because I wouldn’t be able to get a table at this amazing restaurant. Turning out consistently excellent, varied plates for 14 years without a hiccup. Can’t go wrong here
The meal was delicious and special! Everything was unique, the service was great.
very small place but exceptional food & service.this was not our 1st visit.
Food was amazing, very interesting combination of tastes.
Charming and intimate feel. Food is always inventive. We had the Sunday prix fixe- it had some nice choices that were all well prepared. Main protein preparations were a bit ho him compared to past visits. Dessert was overly sweet. We will return because of the great atmosphere , good service and solid food prep. This seemed like a bit of an off night for a usually excellent experience
The food is always SO good at Pumpkin!! It’s the perfect BYOB spot if you want a cozy and comfortable atmosphere with an incredible seasonal menu. I can’t wait to go back!
We had not been to Pumpkin in years and were once again very impressed. The service is genuine and thorough - all who we interacted with were just delightful. Our menu was limited for Restaurant Week and all of our selections were simply perfect. We can't say enough about the experience. We will be back much more frequently. Keep up the great work to keep a gem still shining!
Everything is delicious here. You can't go wrong!
First time at Pumpkin. Restraint week was a good excuse to try something new. Small, but cozy and service was great. We enjoyed our meals. Presentation was perfect and portions were ample. Everything was delicious.
The food was outstanding. The tables were packed too close and this made the noise level was so high that it was very difficult to hold a conversation.
i had heard such good things about this restaurant and expectation were met and exceeded! such hearty and simple ingredients paired and cooked in a way that excites the taste buds. YUM
Fantastic food and service. Their restaurant week menu was tremendous. The soup and pork were to die for.
Gorgeous, initiate spot with great service and impeccable food. PLUS it’s BYOB. A win all around.
My girlfriend and I went to Pumpkin for Philly Restaurant Week. She saw it on the list and we made a last minute, quick reservation. We were specifically interested in trying the pork belly. We were not disappointed. The pork belly was melt in your mouth tender, and its flavors were complex. The appetizers and dessert were amazing as well. The scallop crudo was delicious with the creme fraiche.
The service and the food were superb. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to friends and family members and especially visitors.
Delicious and delightful well thought out meal. The dishes were plated beautifully and the flavors were unique
Came here for restaurant week this year–delicious food and excellent service. Would love to come back to try the full menu!
We went to Pumpkin for restaurant week, after hearing for many years that it is a great spot. We absolutely loved it- everything had something special which sent it over the edge in flavor. The squash soup was simple but delicious, I loved the pork belly and my husband loved his trout. For dessert, we loved both items we chose- the panna cotta and chocolate cake. It was just a great dining experience, and the service was good too. The only negative was that since it is such a small place, you are right next to your neighbors, so I got to listen to two college girls go on and on about their extravagant Main Line lives for over an hour. However, everything else made up for the seating. Will definitely go back!
The size in addition to the decor makes for an intimate, romantic atmosphere. Our service was great - they provided just enough attendance. Our food was flavorful, fresh, and brilliantly composed. We'll definitely be back.
Amazing—every dish is expertly and thoughtfully crafted into a beautiful marriage of flavors, textures, and colors, creating the perfect bite each time. It was truly an enjoyable experience for both palate and soul.
I went to Pumpkin BYOB for restaurant week. The restaurant is small, felt like you were a part of the tables beside you. The first course, Kabocha Squash Soup (Curry, Ginger, Peanuts), was a warming start, if I were to go back I would order it again. For the second course, I ordered the Steelhead Trout (Braised Chickpeas, Kale, Aioli), I was quite disappointed with this course. Lastly, the Chocolate Cake (Ganache, Whipped Cream, Hazelnuts), was too rich, the cocoa was overpowering. The only course I finished was the soup, I wasn't too satisfied with the overall experience at Pumpkin BYOB.
This restaurant serves tasty food, much of it locally sourced, with gluten free options. It is good value for the price. The service is attentive without being intrusive.
We've been to Pumpkin several times before and left satisfied, but this time was different. The highlight by far was the squash soup, which was really spectacular. Two other appetizers were solid but unmemorable. The chicken though tasted underdone. When we informed our server, she took it to the chef who disagreed with us. No apology, no consideration. There are equally good and better BYOBs in Philadelphia. We won't be back.
As s seasoned traveler Pumpkin has without a doubt some the best food I have eaten in a very long time.
Pumpkin never disappoints but this meal was even more delicious than usual because of the wonderful soup(pureed parsnip and apple but SO much more wonderful than that sounds!) I ordered.
As always, service was impeccable as was all the rest of our order....did I mention: Pumpkin never disappoints.
We enjoyed an excellent dinner with dishes we would probably have never tried elsewhere. We'll be back.
Love it -- our second time here. Food and service are great. Everything we had was very well prepared and well presented. Service is attentive without being intrusive.
Do keep in mind ... BYOB and cash only!
The restaurant tends to be inconsistent. Sometimes the meals are quite good, yet other times the meals are so-so. I found the restaurant to be better in the summer months when the many of the ingredients are fresh.
I could not have been more pleased with my decision to come here for NYE dinner. The ambiance was intimate and personal (perfect for a dinner date), the staff was attentive and the food was EXCEPTIONAL. Everything exceeded our expectations and on top of already telling no fewer than 10 different people that they need to put Pumpkin on their list of places to go, I will most certainly be returning myself!
Pre fix menu for NYE. All the food was AMAZING. My scallop crudo was to die for and Im not huge raw scallop gal. I would love alerts every time they are a featured item lol. The hubs octo was delicious and my monkfish was exquisite as well as the pork entree. High high kudos to Pumpkin. Will not disappoint and its byob. Whats better?
Our group had a very enjoyable evening at Pumpkin and we are highly critical. Our service was excellent, made us feel comfortable without "hovering". Our meals were very well prepared and delicious. The menu is small but we did find appetizers which were delicious and satisfying. Despite the restaurant's small size, we did not feel crowded or intruded upon by other tables. We all agreed that we would be happy to eat here again. When Philadelphia Magazine's "top fifty" article did not include Pumpkin we were surprised as we have eaten at many restaurants on the list and they did not measure up. The menu changes frequently so should be checked to make sure your favorites are on the menu for that evening.
The food was simply amazing and the vibe is just great, intimate, and perfect for a close group. The staff were very nice too, just not as personable as I would have expected.
Our number 1 resturant in Philly as always.
Our number 1 resturant in Philly as always.
I brought my wife here for her 30th birthday - table for 4...regrettable. The host was rude from the get go, and overall the service was terrible. We had to ask multiple times for our wine and more water. The kicker ... as we neared the two hour mark I started getting the stares from the host. Shortly after he interrupted our conversation to tell us that another party had been extremely patient thus far and asked us to leave. It would be one thing if they mentioned a two hour time limit upon booking OR if we didn’t order much, but not the case. I found it extremely rude and truly can’t understand how this place is rated so high with such poor service.
As for the food... good... definitely didn’t blow my socks off and debatable if worth the $. AND absolutely not worth it after being asked to leave because they were on a time crunch. I, and the rest of my party, will definitely not be back.
