We had a great time with another couple. Table was ready at our reservation time and we had a nice booth on the patio. Our server Jake was friendly and prompt. We shared fish ceviche, traditional guac, and esquites for appetizers and ordered a variety of soft tacos. All were delicious. Favorites were filet, short rib, and carnitas. House margaritas are very good and strong. Looking forward to going back again soon!

Puesto Los Olivos is often my one of my first choices for lunch or dinner when I am visiting our Irvine Engineering Office Team. Great service, good atmosphere, good food, fun place with great drinks (margaritas are always good).

The service was our biggest complaint. It took 20 minutes to just have our drink order taken and we did not receive chips and salsa until after our food order was taken. Our water sat empty for most of our meal. Our food arrived at least 30 minutes after we ordered, cold and over sauced. We asked for the bill immediately which was brought out after about 10 minutes and then another 15 went by until we had to get up and find someone who would run our credit card. The waitress did comp our guacamole to accommodate for the delay in our food coming out. All in all, not the best experience. We left feeling a little underwhelmed and annoyed. Not sure we’ll return anytime soon.

A friend and I had dinner there for the first time. The menu looked very nice, but seemed very expensive. $30 for the recommended 3 tacos, with no side dishes? Really? I chose the vegetarian bowl. I asked what vegetables were served with it. The server (she was very good) said ‘seasonal’. I left it at that, considering it was summer when vegetables are plentiful. My bowl was covered with a thick layer of dark and slimy chunks of eggplant. Had I known that, I never would have ordered. I loathe eggplant. The other vegetable looked like little squares of potato. Not what I imagined for a seasonal vegetable bowl. My friend ordered a chopped salad, and said it seemed to be dressed in straight vinegar. She tried to eat it, but said it was nor working out. She substituted a taco instead. We wanted to like this place. It is stunning, the servers were excellent, in a great location, but the prices and the food would not allow us to consider going back, again.

Had a reservation for 5:45 on a Friday. It was crowded but not full, even though we heard someone checking in being told it was an hour and a half wait. We were seated right away. Took about 10 mins for our waitress to arrive. She took our drink and food orders (we were in a bit of a hurry for a concert after and let her know that’s why we would just order our food then). Waited and waited for drinks. She circled by several times without making eye contact (IYKYK). She stopped by at about the 15min mark and said “just to clarify, did you still want chips and salsa since you’re in a hurry?” … We told her yes. Still no word on drinks. About 10 mins later our food came out. Got our drinks about 5 mins after that. Chips and salsa came out around then too. We were already eating but I used the salsa on my tacos. I had mushroom, shrimp (add crispy cheese) and fish. Mushroom was by far the best. Shrimp next. Fish is honestly just ok. Nothing special and I didn’t love the tartar-like sauce. Definitely would have ordered another drink but I knew we would never get it. Bar didn’t seem busy because at least 3 guys were back there just on the inside side and none seemed like they were hustling. Waitress sat there and chatted with one for about 6-7 mins while we were waiting for our drinks. Really annoying experience tbh. But I would prob go back because I love those mushroom tacos, and the margaritas are fire if and when you actually get one.

Overall good experience. Tried the squash blossom quesadilla. It was very different and tasty. We ordered the Puesto perfect guacamole and it took a really long time to receive it. The portion definitely feels smaller. The tacos were good but the portion size definitely feels smaller and the prices higher. Service was just ok. The server started out strong and then got busy and neglected our table. If you’re looking for good Mexican food near Irvine still highly recommend.

Pretty lousy service. 15 minute wait past reservation time. Order placed with waiter was not submitted for some reason, so he asked us again what we ordered. He said it would be 5 minutes more, which we knew wasn’t possible, ended up being served 25 minutes after that. Then he avoided are table so it took forever to get the check. We understood he seemed overwhelmed with all the tables he had to cover. For the price, the food definitely wasn’t worth it. Good, but not amazing. Haven’t had to complain about a restaurant in a long time.

Ambiance is always so fun at Puesto. Really good service and great drinks. Our server was great at according some special request with our drinks. I typically order the tacos but tired the quesadilla to share and was pleasantly surprised.

Food tasted great, drinks were also well made. Ambience was great. Our only complaint was with our server, who appeared rushed or annoyed. We had a group of 7 and ordered two apps of the guacamole, and got one salsa bowl. We asked for a second or smaller bowl to split them among the two sides of the table and never got it. She then took the salsa bowl mid way through the meal (we were still using to add to our food) and thought she was refilling it but it never returned to the table. It was a little thing but just somewhat annoying and seemed unnecessary.

I've dined at Puesto in the past and have always loved it, which is why I picked it for my birthday dinner. Unfortunately, our most recent visit was a disappointment. One member of our party is vegan and had a hard time finding something on the menu. The server did not offer any suggestions. We ended up ordering one of the bowls but were later told that the rice is made with butter, so he got the bowl without rice, and then it was basically a $20 bowl of salsa with a few vegetables. Didn't even taste good. It is not that hard to have a vegan entree, Puesto! We were also charged for a drink that we didn't receive (because they'd run out of it). My mushroom tacos were delicious, but I only ordered two due to the high price ($8/taco). I couldn't rationalize ordering three tacos for $24 dollars, but I definitely had room for another. Since it was my birthday, I ordered a margarita (guava). The presentation was lovely, but I don't think it had any alcohol in it. When you spend $19 on a margarita, you expect tequila! Overall, it was a really disappointing experience, and I'm sorry that the rest of my party did not enjoy their meals. Puesto is pricey, so for me, it's a special occasion restaurant. But I will definitely choose someplace else next time.

While food presentation was good, we all agreed that there were too many competing flavors. The guacamole had an unusual flavor to it that we couldn't quite figure out; the chopped salad had some good, fresh ingredients, but they didn't seem to compliment each other. The wine selection was poor (only house wines by the glass - and no chardonnay or cabernet). Our server was very friendly and nice, but our orders had to be taken by a different server because our original server got too busy. Sitting in the patio was very nice - felt very tropical with a nice breeze.

I have been to Puesto twice now. Both times, I have been exceptionally disappointed in the service which was slow and failed to check in. Both times, the roasted salsa has been the redeeming food item. The street tacos are very large - they recommend three, but this is way too much food in my opinion. The Puesto guacamole had giant chunks of Reggiano cheese in it… It was overly rich. The grilled chicken on my chopped salad was white, rubbery, and plain. Three “street”tacos, a salad with chx, guacamole, a side of beans, and one glass of wine was $100 for lunch. I had hoped to have two glasses of wine, and the server never came back to even ask. My personal advice would be to try another Mexican restaurant in the area. there are some other nice ones that have better service.

Their tacos are to die for, each a unique masterpiece. They also have one of the best tequila menus around, although for the life of me I have no idea why they changed their tequila flight from El Tesoro to Patron. The chips and salsa are very good as well. Maybe the best taco is off menu. Ask for the "Hero", a filet mignon and lobster combination.

I really enjoyed all of the vegetarian options. I loved the mushroom tacos and the Puesto Perfect Guacamole with Parmigiano-Reggiano was so delicious. There are plenty of meat and seafood options as well. It is nice place for a group dinner or meetings with lot's of sharing options and fun drinks. Will be back next time I am in town.

Havent been here in years , came because i saw reservations on line and looking to check out their taco tuesday again , bad idea !! within seconds of seating , i asked if we can be moved to a table outside , was met with rude response from the hostest , she said beacuse we HAD a reservation we couldnt sit outside , and their was no tables out there . Get up to check outside and see mutiple clean tables outside … when the server checks on us i let him know we dont feel like sitting inside , few minutes go by and another hostests comes over to reassure us that we have to sit where the original host placed us . i let her know that we saw a couple tables outside and she said that those tables are only for people who HAD reservations , we HAD a reservation ! i told her that its no big deal if you dont want to accomidate our request then we will simply go else where , your not the only mexican place with taco tuesday . She then changes tune and says we can sit at the fireplace table outside that was empty , but its a community table , which we agreed to then she says it will be a 10 min wait . WHY ? the tables empty ? geeez this place reminded me why we dont come here anymore . Overpriced Food and Drinks , lack of hospitality ! the expirence has dropped alot , and the taco tuesday lacks any real specials ! We finally had enough back and fourth and ended up getting up and just leaving , drove to SOL cantina in irvine , and thankfully we did. It was Amazing and fraction of the price and more variety LoL. Never making that mistake again! Hard Pass !
