Puesto La Jolla
With handmade maiz azul stone-ground tortillas made daily in house, sustainable meats and seafood, and scratch salsas, Puesto’s menu is a celebration of fundamental Mexican flavors and an homage to the cosmopolitan palate of Mexico City, courtesy of Executive Chef/Partner Luisteen Gonzalez and Executive Creative Chef Katy Smith.
Puesto delivers a refreshing craft bar program, grounded in carefully curated agave spirits. We’re known for our Puesto Perfect Margaritas, in addition to palomas, micheladas and seasonal aguas frescas.

The La Jolla location is very busy and noisy in the evenings. I would recommend the DT location if you plan on having a conversation with a friend or significant other. Otherwise food was amazing and our server was great per usual.
Fun spot for this Seattle-girl for fabulous tacos and margaritas! I'll be back!
Horrible service. Long wait times even with a reservation. Seated us next to trash cans. Will not return.
So much food, so much yummy-ness! Thank you to our server Michelle for being so sweet with great recommendations. The corn was fantastic and the potato rolls with the guacamole were great too
The food was okay. Not spectacular as I would have expected having lived in Mexico and eaten mole inspired dishes. The part I did not like was the mescal pairing. The mescals were all young/joven and not comfortable to someone who knows this liquor.
Good food. We had duck, lobster, tamarindo shrimp, grilled fish, and carnitas tacos. The chips and salsa were very good. We each had an alcoholic beverage, one being beer. And guacamole. We were a little surprised by the total of our bill, which was $88.
Overall was good, but based on price, not sure it was worth it
Loud and expensive. Food was gratuitously spicey.
We really enjoyed the great tacos and unique dishes at Puesto.
I'm always a big fan of Puesto and I have yet to be disappointed by anything. The food is always unique and amazing, the service is perfect, and the whole experience is simply enjoyable. Both locations in San Diego are great, but the La Jolla one is my favorite and I try and go as often as possible. I will definitely be coming back as long as they keep the food nice and tasty!
Friends from out of the country visiting
After a bit of a wait to secure our reserved table, we were served promptly and the overall level of service was terrific. Great marguerites and cerviche and tacos...
While the guac was pretty good, the specialty tacos were blah. We ordered the taco of the week and the shrimp and filet ( both w upcharges) that were just ok. Forgot to put the “gold dust’ on my daughters specialty taco but it was really the taste that was missing most. Staff were very friendly and accommodating and the place had a beach vibe. However, expected more for an authentic eatery in CA.
I was visiting my daughter who attends college at UCSD and she wanted to go out for fish tacos. Neither of us had visited Puesto before and we absolutely loved it! We had great service, it was a fun and casual atmosphere, and the food was fantastic. There are so many types of tacos to choose from, and you can mix them up. Lots of interesting flavors that we both loved.
Fantastic service, delicious food.
Nice relaxed atmosphere and good food ...the special tacos were fun and the variety was excellent. Kids enjoyed their kid meal too.
Lovely service and good. Unique flavors that was worth repeating again.
Always great food and fun place.
EXCELLENT!!! Everything on the menu is outstanding!!
Good food but REALLY over priced. The taste of the food didn't make the process worth it. Mostly likely won't return, however I'd you like over priced tacos then it's great! The food was good, really good...but not $17 for 3 tiny street tacos good. The juice my daughter had was the best part, it was AMAZING!!
The food was superb and unique. The three taco combination meal I had (with chicken, grilled shrimp and baja fish) was excellent. So were the potato filled taquitos and guacamole. Friendly and timely service too.
Unbelievable tacos ! Definitely recommend to a friend. Beat regards
This is about my tenth visit here and I finally understood all the reviews about being seated where the draft from the door hits. If you're unfortunate enough to sit at those tables, you'll catch the cold wind every time someone enters/extis and often customers leave it open. It's uncomfortable and cools down your food quickly. If you can, ask to be sat on the right side of the restaurant.
Aside from that, five stars per usual. The Tamarindo Shrimp taco may just beat out the Filet Mignon for me, it's SO good. Crispy, sweet, a tiny bit sour and a hint of heat. Literally perfect. Those two and the Lobster taco are three best tacos here. Our waitress was great. Friendly and attentive - we didn't even see her refill our water, she's a ninja.
Everything we ordered, the waitress had to cone back to us and tell they were out of. We ended up having appetizers and a drink and leaving to go somewhere else for dinner.
Very delicious food. Excellent horchata and drinks! Fun atmosphere!
Absolutely amazing place, from decor to food to service. Highly recommend. Drinks are also frictions and beautiful. This place will be great for you whether you’re looking tasty, modern Mexican food with unique take on things and plenty of vegan/vegetarian options or if you are after a highly instagrammable trendy place. Highly recommend to anyone!
I made the earliest reservation open table had, but we wound up going an hour earlier because we just decided our reservation was too late to eat dinner. We asked to be put on the wait list, so if anything came up before our reservation we could sit sooner. Turns out, the hostess never put us on the list. She just insisted our reservation would get us on quicker, which I highly doubt.
Our server was awesome and made many great recommendations, however I was a little put off by the fact that he pushed chips and guacamole, and then as soon as he brought it out said “hope you don’t like it too much because we just ran out of chips”, yet we saw LOTS of chips baskets going out to other tables. Also multiple wrong food items were brought out to our table multiple times.
We went out to dinner with friends thinking this would be a quick, good, inexpensive meal (it’s tacos!). Three and half hours and $150 later we were out of there.
Good food! Fun place to hang out with friends
service was great, food was great and the wait staff did their best to accomodate my uncle with a more comfortable chair for his sore back.
The tacos were spectacular, as were the warm tortilla chips & guacamole.
The food was subpar for the price. Everything was dry and boring. We won't be going back
I had the best dinner! They are good for groups and even celebrated my engagement with me! 😀
Best Tacos in town. The ingredients are superior. Carnitas is out of this world.
Great tacos. A little expensive though
Some of the best tacos of my life. Had the filter and lobster, and tried the chicken verde. I'll be back, for sure!
The guacamole and chips were the highlight of the meal along with our server Kyle who really worked his tail off, he was super helpful and engaging. I found the tacos to be overly sauced, this sauce hid the taste of the shrimp and fish tacos I had... I also do not understand the love affair with corn tortillas, all I want is a flower tortilla or at least the option to have this, I personally find corn torts to be dry and tasteless compared to a nice homemade flour tortilla. The desert was not memorable, the ice cream tacos my kids had were great, they liked them a lot, my bite of theirs was good too... Noise level was pretty good, nice atmosphere but not too too loud. I would go back for sure, just will ask for sauce on side and flower torts... The shrimp were beautifully fried and the fish cooked very well but too saucy for me... Cocktails were also very good, had two different margaritas, both very good. In the end I give it 3.5 STARS
Awesome tacos here (loved the filet mignon one best), and the salad with fried quinoa as an accent was wonderful! Service was friendly and attentive, especially appreciated since I was by myself. I'll definitely be back and will recommend this restaurant to others.
Best Mexican food I’ve ever had (and I use to travel to Mexico City for business).
Great service. All our tacos were extremely spicy.
It was a great night out!
Friendly staff and great tacos. The foh manager kept the tables going and ran a tight ship. Whole team knew where to go and what to do. Handmade tortillas and drinks were amazing.
