Jonathon was our waiter and great. I was a guest at La Valencia Hotel and out of 15 L.J. Mexican restaurants, this was the only one on their list. It's noisy and close quarters but other than that, I was happy. I did Taco Tuesday options and an appetizer. I had a beer on tap, friend did 2 different marg options. I was happy it was my only choice. I let the hotel and waiter know it was a win-win.
Great friendly service and really enjoyed the tacos and the beer.
This is our second Valentines Day at Puesto and we’ve been several other times. Always delicious!
What an awesome taco house!! The food, cocktails and starters were all outstanding, so tasty! We had just jumped off a plane from London UK (11 hours not including transit) and were ravenous and tired, we arrived an hour or so early and were accommodated by the bar whilst a table was prepared. Jonathan was our server and he was super attentive, gave us some great food recommendations including THE CALIFORNIA TACO *drooling emoji* as well as local San Diego places to visit. Overall we had such a pleasant experience, was definitely a highlight of our trip.
The only challenge was that we needed to wait for a table to be vacated by the previous customers in order for us to be seated for our reservation. Besides that, everything was excellent!
Friendly staff with upbeat vibe. Food was delicious with excellent drink options. We'll be back again.
Limited menu and pricey margarita, but overall fun place.
Ambience is a cool vibe but lots of reflective surfaces, relatively small area and noisy children (3 times I've visited) can be distracting. Food is tasty but on the tacos are on the spicy side.
Got together with h friends we hadn’t seen in a long time. Had been to Puesto before so thought it might be nice to meet again. Food was good but it was a bit noisy to talk. Loved the lobster taco. My Mom can’t eat ANYTHING spicy so it was difficult to find an appropriate entree. We wound up ordering from the children’s menu. Can you do anything better than that?
Other than that it was good and the conversation great. Would be good to know your answer if we should come again. Thanks.
Best tacos in San Diego. $3.50 on Tuesdays but it is so worth it. The fillet mignon one is the amazing, as well as the shrimp. Marguaritas are expensive but are strong.
The food and service at Puesto are generally good, but it’s hard to justify paying $46 for lunch for one (3 tacos and 1 margarita).
My “lobster” taco had fried thin pieces of something in it, but I could not taste any lobster. And, why would you fry lobster?
Perhaps they brought the wrong item, but then I paid a lobster surcharge for something other than lobster.
Fidel’s in Solana Beach provides a much more consistent product for a lot less.
Always a good experience for dressed up tacos! Friendly service. Have eaten here multiple times. Will come again next time I'm in town!
Fun atmosphere but it’s LOUD. I think the tacos were just Ok. They are very busy. They were already out of the Taco of the Month and we ate dinner early, 5:45. The margaritas are good.
I had high hopes and to me it was just meh.
Always try the taco of the month>> This place is truly amazing in all aspects, drinks, food and service.
We had made reservation with a request for a quit place, but still got to sit in the noisy area with the kitchen and the TV sport blaering. The service was a bit slow, the food was ok, tacos and the Margaritas good, which were expensive at $13, so we did not order another.
We think the concept of a modern Mexican restaurant in La jolla is a good idea, but the noise is unbearable at 5:45pm .
Good for family who has baby or children. Nice food and service. Great alcohol beverages
The food was reallly amazing, being vegetarian they had so many good dishes which are very unique and delicious
Wonderful blue corn tortillas, but the tacos weren't that great. Not very creative, and they came out kind of cold. The carnitas and chicken taco was great, but the grilled fish wasn't very good. Nice guac. Pretty standard taco place - nothing to write home about.
Always great food and friendly staff.
Dont get the buzz on this place. Food is so so and the prices are very high albeit the location is great.
Puesto was a great choice prior to heading to La Jolla Comedy Store. Even with a packed restaurant, we were in and out within an hour. The tacos are always delicious, staff friendly, and drinks were great.
Puesto was great. We were in from out of town for some southern CA R&R and Puesto hit the spot. Highly recommend the filet mignon taco. And the roasted corn app!
Our reservation was at 6 but we didn’t get seated until 6:20. Staff was so apologetic and the manager gave us our first round of drinks in the house. Our waiter was amazing letting us know about “off menu” items that were amazing. We had a great night.
We were seated 50 minutes after our reservation time, then they messed up our dinner order.
Casual venue. The receptionists did not appreciate or care that opening the front door creates a huge draft for 3 or 4 tables near the door. Pretty much will ruin the experience for anyone dining there (unless you like lukewarm food). If you get seated there you might as well pick up and dine somewhere else.
Puesto is alway great! The steak taco is one of the best things on earth!!
Also you need to order the nobada guacamole, it is fantastic!
We are visiting from out of town. We wanted a casual, kid friendly Mexican restaurant and this restaurant fits the bill! We had great service, great food and fun. Delicious food!
Very over priced drinks and tacos. Even on Taco Tuesdays. $14-$17 for margarita and little street tacos $3.50-5.50. If you want to splurge and don't operate on a budget then it's fine but if you're price conscience then it's best to pass. I bought 2 margaritas and 3 tacos and it was over $50... not exactly "Happy" Hour prices. Would definitely not come on any other day.
Waitress seemed a bit pushy and we ended up having a weird bug crawling around on the table. But other than that it was good. Good food, I felt the margaritas were a little overpriced.
The food was too salty. Overall I can't say it was better than the usual taquerias I visit. It was expensive too. The service was good though.
Best Tacos I have ever had! No question!!
Every Tuesday 6 to 10 Of us go to dinner in the village we rotate Karl Strauss whisk and ladle Hennessey Joses.l etc. room. In the place we always have an issue is your restaurant. Your seating and reservations Management is effed up. I know it’s hard to get good help these days but come on this happens almost every time have dinner at this place the hostess Freaks out if you have more than five people in your party. They do everything they can to discourage you from bring a large party when you make your reservation. Always make the reservations at 8:30 pm and the restaurants emptying. The worst is when you get there they make you wait. They don’t have tables organized. We ask the hostess if they can put your tables together so you can be seated they tell you it’s not their job.
Out of town friends and the food was excellent ! They loved it.
Sam makes a mean cocktail. Lovely service. Food was amazing!
Somewhat disappointed, menu was unique for street style tacos, but I wouldn't say they were the best or worst tacos ever had. The guacamole and salsa with chips, was very good, three different styles can be ordered and there's plenty for two. We felt the place was overpriced, two people, one beer, a soda and two paper plates with three street tacos on each and guacamole for $76, no beans or rice included in this Mexican restuarant, the food was good and filling, but nothing really special for the $76. charged to sit on a cafateria style chair at a wood butcher block table but then this is La Jolla! I personally would not recommend this place for a Mexican style dinner meal, maybe lunch and order a single taco on taco Tuesday when the tacos are a little better priced for what they are!
The food was delicious but our server was less than attentive. We waited a while after being seated to receive water and have our order taken. Then he pretty much ignored our table for 30mins although he was in the vicinity checking on other tables. When he finally came back to our table, he slipped us the check without asking if we wanted anything else which we did. When we initially ordered, he left a menu at the table so that we can order more tacos. Disappointing service. But delicious tacos.
Puesto is always solid—and I’m a tough critic. I make a point to eat here when in town...if i can get a table. Highly recommend for a fun date, or casual lunch/dinner. The tacos are excellent. Don’t forget a margarita (rocks/salt) to wash them down!
Food is absolutely incredible!! You have to try the chicharonnes they are so good! Food is very elevated but also familiar.
We had a great lunch and fun time at Puesto. We have eaten at the Puesto in San Diego previously and this was our first visit to the La Jolla location. The only issue was that they ran out of regular salsa-which we really enjoy. The tacos are very good as well as premium margaritas (although on the pricier side). We will be back next time we are in town!
