Puesto at the Headquarters Ratings and Reviews
Excellent local atmosphere - waiter was great - attentive and pleasant and good recommendations. Margaritas were good - though not the best I have ever had - the tacos were wonderful - tried the cactus one and it was great. Great evening for a casual dinner with a friend. We were seated outside under a heater - very pleasant and conducive to conversation.
I chose to eat lunch here one day because it was close to the Convention Center and near the water. There is both indoor and outdoor seating; I chose to eat outdoors and enjoy the weather. I enjoyed a pineapple agua fresca, which was delicious and refreshing. I also ordered 3 tacos- Chicken Al Pastor, lamb, and lobster. They were full of flavor; I'm still thinking about how tasty the lamb was. I would recommend this place.
I was in San Diego for a business trip, and took my two young adult children with me. Our first night in the city, we ate at Puesto. We enjoyed margaritas and the mix and match taco selection. The delicious tacos included a beef special, zucchini and cactus, and mushroom. Each was more delicious than the next! We enjoyed the Mexican deco, as well as the festivities under way at in the shopping area outside the restaurant.
Happened upon this place in the outdoor mall near the Hyatt. What a find! Super casual place but great ambiance with soft outdoor seating. The important part: the tacos were unique and delicious. I had a selection of filet, chicken, and mushroom. All knocked it out. Also had a delicious rye-based drink. A+. Hope to be back. Highly recommend.
I love the food at Puesto but again was disappointed with the service. I made a reservation for 12:45 and the hostess said she had it and would seat us shortly. We waited over 15 minutes to be seated while others we seated ahead of us. Then we asked to be moved inside as it was a hot day and the sun was beating down on my guest and I. We were moved inside after another 10 minutes. We then waited over 10 minutes before our waiter came ... we had to ask for chip & salsa (I had told my friend who had never been to Puesto before how good they were and she was really looking forward to trying them!). Our waiter finally took our order at 1:25 ... we did get some chips and then the food came in another 15 minutes or so. It was pretty good except the lobster taco tasted and smelled VERY fishy. My guest couldn't eat it and we did tell the waiter ... no apology, just said he'd take it off the bill. I keep trying to love this place but almost every time the service is way below expectations ... I hope it improves.
Had a stop in San Diego for one night, due to flight cancellation. This restaurant was recommended. Loved the area it was in. Would have preferred to eaten outside, but no seating available so we sat inside back by the kitchen. Server was very friendly. Wasn't a fan of the chips. Very thick and had a Frito taste. I like thin chips. The salsa was very thick and smoky flavored. Again, not my favorite. The crab guacamole was good. My family ordered different tacos and they were just OK. I have eaten at many "higher end" Mexican restaurants that I prefer above this place. The chairs at the table are wood and metal and very uncomfortable. Again, not terrible , but I would not go back. I'm sure there are better spots in San Diego.
Very busy for Sunday at 7 PM and kitchen must have been overwhelmed. 15 minutes to get a glass of Sangria, followed by another 35+ minutes to get an order of Baja fish tacos. But the food was excellent, including my taco trio - crispy beef taco of the month, lamb barbacoa, and carnitas.
We were there previously and loved it so we wanted our visiting out of state friend to experience it. The food was very good, great server, very cool ambiance and our server, Jacqueline , was great and knowledgeable about the menu. When the bill came they they added a surcharge of 3% to each bill to supplement the minimum wage increase. It was an immediate turn off! The wealthy owners who own at least 5 venues are so greedy that don't want to pay their employees fairly and have the audacity to expect customers to pay them directly. They are probably keeping the excess for themselves. There are lots of good tacos joints in San Diego I plan to take my future business to those.
My husband & I spent the morning at the zoo. We wanted to relax and enjoy some great food for lunch. Puesto never fails to impress us. It was restaurant week so we lucked out on a special menu that allowed us to try something new in addition to our favorites. I tried the cactus taco! It was great! Our server was very attentive. One of the best we’ve had, thanks!
