Selected restaurant after reading article about San Diego and it was mentioned there. So happy that we did. Great service and ambiance. The tamarindo shrimp tacos were excellent, same as the guacamole and white sangria.
Puesto at the Headquarters is not just a standard Mexican restaurant but this one is a step above. Amazing surf and turf tacos! Lobster with filet mignon meat. I have never had surf and turf tacos and they are now my favorite ever! Best chips and salsa. We will return!
Our visit to Puesto was great! We went there to celebrate my daughter's graduation from SDSU. The tacos & drinks were delicious, as always. Our waiter was the absolute best! He was super nice, attentive and made our dinner even more celebratory.
Great food, attentive service and damn good Margaritas
Freakn love it . Love everything about it . Food is excellent
Great food. Super service. We have been several times and it’s always great
The menu was fresh and innovative. The filet mignon taco was delicious and the margarita was perfect. I would definitely visit this restaurant again if in the area.
Our reservation was for 5:15 but they had seated someone else ahead of us so we had to wait 20 minutes until they could have timed it for their waiter to serve us. Then the waiter seemed mad and service was slow. The food as always was excellent and the venue was great. We’ll be back, I think they just had a bad day. The other times we’ve been there it was awesome.
Hostess staff is not welcoming. Bus boy/runner was incommunicative and food is ok, very limited menu options.. you will be paying $20+ for street tacos. Everything is over salted.
My favorite taco was the filet mignon taco and the house margarita was outstanding.
Waiter was so good, my daughter has a nut allergy and he triple checked the tortilla chips before they were brought to our table and it turned out 5 days ago they switched to frying chips in peanut oil! So glad he was thorough and checked. Tacos were amazing, the mango lime agua Fresca was great. Wished we had this place in Boston!
The Cinco de Mayo special menu was a great success! The margaritas were so smooth! The guacamole with the addition of bits of delicious cheese adding texture and taste was in need of a bit of hot sauce for my palate, but my husband loved it as delivered.
My shrimp cocktail ehanced with peanuts was not floating about in the glass. The glass was chock full of shrimp pieces which had absorbed the spicy flavor and four large shrimp which had not been marinated balanced on the rim. It was a delightful mix of flavors and texture.
My husband loved all three tacos - chicken, pork, and carne asada. Each had its own additions to the taco yielding diverse tastes. Any one of them could have been the best I have ever tasted - I could not choose a favorite.
Now add superlative wait staff, a warm heater to ward off the chilly night air, and a chorus of fun music surrounding us, and you will know why this has been our favorite dining experience on this trip to San Diego.
We attended on Cinco de Mayo so it had a special menu and live music, so I cannot accurately review what it was like on an average night. However, I will say the quality of the food and drinks were excellent (a little pricey, but nothing absurd) and the service was great. We were seated near the DJ and the music was very loud, but I don't know how often there is live music. The ambiance was fantastic with upstairs seating looking out over the outside patio and inside to the bar, and lots of tables with heaters and long tables outside. If I'm ever in San Diego again I'd love to eat outside on a nice evening.
limited menu on 5/5 was very disappointing, as was take it or leave it service. You were not that busy!
I loved this place! We ordered the Classic Guacamole and Esquite which were both fantastic, and the Potato Taquitos were hands down my favorite thing that we ordered. The margaritas are amazing too. To be completely honest the tacos were just okay, but I would go to Puesto for drinks and apps anytime!
I would eat here everyday for the rest of my natural life and any days I exist after that as a White Walker if I could. I was seated very quickly, and despite being by myself was not forced to sit at the bar. My outdoor table was pretty central, but not noisy at all. The food was [insert Homer Simpson yummy noise]. On day one (because yes, I went back the next day), I had the esquite, guacamole, and the taco trio of “taco of the month” (a pork shoulder), duck confit, and grilled shrimp. Could not pick a favorite. All delicious. I wish I could eat more than three at a time. The next day I swapped the shrimp taco for the carnitas, and it was equally amazing. I also swapped the esquite for the ceviche on day two, and it was amazing. To drink I had a Paloma on day one, and a mango-limon agua fresca on day two. Both were good, but I should have tried the margarita. Guess I’ll have to go again!
The food was okay, but not worth the cost, even on a taco Tuesday. It was overshadowed with small portions of meat, and tons of sauce and cheese. Even the salad was drenched in dressing. We ordered 6 tacos(filet mignon, carnitas, grilled shrimp, sweet pea, and 2 lobster), a salad and soup. The tacos were all underwhelming and inconsistent. Though one lobster was absolutely incredible: big pieces of meat and perfect amount of sauce/fried onions/avocado, the other was the opposite. Also, the grilled shrimp tacos were completely over cooked, I couldn’t finish eating it because it’s consistency was that of jerky.
The cocktails were good. The desperado was excellent, tasting like a mezcal spin on an old fashioned! We sat inside towards the back, which was really loud and had bright lighting. All in all, I wouldn’t come back for the food, but it’s a great date night spot for cocktails if you can sit outside by the fire.
I went here for my boyfriends birthday and noted this in the reservation, as I have in the past. All other restaurants I have been to have been sure to note to the server of the occasion so they can say happy birthday or do something special, but that did not happen here. Otherwise, great service and food!!
Taco Tuesday topped off with the best Cadillac Margarita in town!
We had a reservation and arrived on time. Hostess seated us right next to bar/food service area. We immediately walked back to front desk and said it was too loud and busy there. She then seated us in a back area which was much quieter. There were at least 2 available tables in this area. I cannot understand why we were not seated there in the first place. Last time I ate here (with a reservation and group of 8 the same thing happened, we were seated right outside the kitchen and could not hear ourselves think much less hear the person next to me). This visit, my meal took quite abit longer to come out than my friends. Waitress was nice and did not charge me for one of my plates (I ordered two smaller plates). Food was great, waitress was nice and attentive but $11 for quacamole is outrageous!!
Excellent as always! Our server Jude was great!
The two people that are the shrimp tacos got sick that night but the two of us that didn’t really enjoyed it. But for the simple fact of them getting sick we will not be going back.
I frequent this location. The food never disappoints. Our server was very slow, didn’t check on us, and actually in the beginning we had to get up and ask the host who our server was because we did not get helped within the first 10-15 minutes. This theme continued throughout the night until our check came which we had to ask and wait a significant amount of time for.
Always enjoy our dining experience at Puesto. Love everything about this place. One of our favorite spots in San Diego. Service is always great!! Food is delicious!! Thank you!!
The avocado came out with brown spots all over it. I ordered the ceviche.
I like it alot and stuff
We love it. We live across the street. Our only complaint, and from everyone we know is how terribly loud it is to sit inside. You honestly cannot hear the other person talking without shouting. Now everyone in there is doing the same. Makes it difficult to enjoy eating. We ALWAYS request to eat outside.
Delicious food and drink. Good service. But too pricey.
Food was good. Very pricey for tacos and a couple of weak margaritas. Had to flag down people to get service so the pacing of the meal was strange. With all the great restaurants in San Diego I can’t see going back to this one.
I highly recommend the filet mignon taco. And the taco of the month was the "Manny Machado"...also excellent. Delicious but trendy and expensive tacos. For a special occasion I was glad I was able to stretch the palate of my teenage boys (who can eat street tacos by the dozen).
We enjoyed our meal, would definitely go back!
$13 for a small margarita was way overpriced for what we received. Also the menu is really small. If you want tacos, or tacos...this is the place for you. No fajitas, no burritos, very limited.
Would not recommend...$120 for 3 people for a basic tacos and a margarita...try some place else
Awesome service great recommendations can’t wait To go back!
Everything about it is awesome. Be prepared for a loud environment.
Tourist trap...very expensive...loud...will never return!
Great place for lunch. Fantastic Tequilla selection.
Outstanding Mexican food. Incredibly reach, flavorful and satisfying.
I loved all the plant based choices on the menu..deliciously prepared.
Ambiance is colorful and fun..downstairs can be loud. We dined upstairs
which was a little more intimate & quiet. Patio option lovely too!
