Puesto at the Headquarters Ratings and Reviews
Puesto's tacos are delicious, creative, and vegetarian friendly! Everything I ordered was very tasty and flavorful. It was pretty noisy, but it's likely because they had their doors closed since it was rainy. Otherwise the outdoor seating looks very comfortable and relaxing. The food is pretty pricey on normal days, but taco tuesday really cuts down on the overall bill. 5 people with appetizers and drinks came out to $127 on taco tuesday, and everyone was stuffed.
Honestly I felt like the food was mediocre and the service was horrible. I had to ask for something three times before getting it. Also I was there to celebrate my boyfriends birthday and I specified on the reservation that it was his birthday and they didn’t do anything special. I saw on yelp that they brought out a birthday flan but after the waiter dropped off our food he never came back. It was so bad to the point we had to chase someone for the bill so we can just get out of there. Never going back again and will not recommend anyone going There
Overall ok. Interesting food- not your typical tacos, etc. Service was great but front of house staff seemed disorganized and inexperienced. Probably won't return based on experience. Food and service aren't enough to make up for the poor reception and unfriendly first impression.
We planned a birthday lunch with out of town family - a party of 9. 11 am reservations - we were greeted by the friendly hostess and seated promptly. Our server was pleasant and helpful. When he took our order he was impatient when one member of our party was struggling to decide what to order-(tapping his fingers on the seat back while she decided) very unprofessional. Our food arrived - all but one meal- which was delivered after we had almost finished eating. My food was cold and so were many others- the taste was not as I remembered during my past visits. Disappointed.
We had to wait about 20 minutes past our reservation time because of how busy they were, however they were very apologetic and offered us a few free items from the menu which more than made up for the wait. The food was very good, and I would absolutely recommend this place for a fun date night.
Came on the Amtrak train from Los Angeles to spend my husband's birthday in Downtown San Diego. I had chosen Puesto because of its ratings, its proximity to the Santa Fe Depot, and its proximity to the seashore village.
Everything we tried was delicious and unique in taste; Vibrant flavors and unique mixes that really left an impression. First off, the salsa that comes with the chips is amazing! I just wanted to eat scoops of it by itself so I ended up asking for extra and pouring it on my carnitas bowl. I had also tried the campechana and the Mercado salad and it was all delicious. The Agua Frescas are really pure and natural tasting- my favorite was the pineapple one.
My husband was given a tres leches Cake topped with chocolate shavings that was unforgettable!! I'm not a fan of tres leches but this was by far the best I have tried (don't tell my Cuban grandmother). I think I'd get back on the train and come visit just for that cake.
Service was amazing. They constantly checked on us and made any accommodations to our needs, including my giant stroller and carb-free diet. Patio seating was really convenient even the little ones started getting antsy; they watched the birds and even ran a lap around the planters.
The only downside to my experience is that I had wished the menu had more options but it won't affect my review.
I was a little disappointed with the tacos this time. I only ate half of them - they were cold and fried and not like I remembered at all the last time I had them. The margaritas were excellent as always and our waitress very good and festive with her reindeer antler headband.
The red wine selection was not very good, no CA cabernets by the glass. I was not the only one at the table disappointed by the food. I'll give it another chance, but hope it improves!
The food is good and quite tasty, but overpriced in my opinion, even during happy hour. Tried the carnitas, filet and lobster tacos. My favorite was the filet. The drinks are also very good, but small and expensive. Service was friendly, but food prep took quite a while and the place wasn't that busy. Not a fan of the metal chairs.
The restaurant is beautiful with nice view of the kitchen. The patio area has heaters, so it's comfortable. Kid friendly with high chairs and changing tables in M/F bathrooms. Service was good. The food was meh. Filet Mignon taco was oversalted and grisly, inedible. Carnitas was flavorless. Blue corn tortillas were delicious, the best thing there. Wish the food was better because service and ambience was excellent.
Sorry to say we had terrible service. It started with the hostess who claimed someone else took our reservation when they called my name. Really! It took 2.5 hours to get in and out. This is not a multiple food course venue. Service excuses included back up on taco line in kitchen. There was confusion about our bar order and general lack of attention from service staff for our table. We had to ask for chips refill and water.
Now in the defense of our waitress, she had 3 large tables of 8-10 people each in her section. Our groups was 8. The section we were in was very loud. It appeared that there was another layer of staff that were evaluating the wait staff but doing little to support her or customers. My oh my, it had to be obvious that that she was overwhelmed and food orders were not getting in and out in a reasonable time. The poor service was not just her issue.
Finally, the food was good. I will just never return based on the overall lack of commitment to service.
I had been wanting to try Puesto for quite sometime. This place is always busy so I figured it must be good. Their house made margaritas were really good. The salsa lacked flavor - it needed a squeeze of lime & some salt. The tacos themselves were good - I've had better & I've had worse. I wanted to try the fish taco with 2 other different tacos but you can only order the fish tacos that come in 3's. The Carne asada taco was my favorite & my husband liked the turkey mole, which was the taco of the month for November.
One note was that the hostesses were S L O W. I had OpenTable reservations & we arrived 10 minutes early, yet we didn't get seated until 20 minutes after our reservation time. There were plenty of available tables - I just don't think the hostesses had a clue what they were doing.
Excellent local atmosphere - waiter was great - attentive and pleasant and good recommendations. Margaritas were good - though not the best I have ever had - the tacos were wonderful - tried the cactus one and it was great. Great evening for a casual dinner with a friend. We were seated outside under a heater - very pleasant and conducive to conversation.
