It was very noisy, small menu, food was ok, a few of our group made changes to the meal which all came out incorrect. There are much better restaurants in the area.
This was my first time to Puccini however, I will ask for a table away from the front door and bar.
Great location. Excellent food. Would highly recommend this restaurant
Went prior to seeing Mary Poppin’s at the SF Playhouse. Good food, quick service, good experience. A bit pricey for what you get but not terrible for SF.
Great food but place was cold.
We had a reservation on New Year Eve at 7:30 pm. But upon arrival we were asked to wait because there wss no our table type available. We had to wait for close to 30 min. The hostess genuinely appologized several times though.
The salad we shared Warm Spinach with mashrooms was delicious.
I had a NY steak for a main course, which I ordered medium well. It came well done with one side burned severely. I told about that the person who brought the dish, who said he would come in a minute to check if I still like the meat. He never showed up. Then I told the same to the waitress who just said she was sorry. For $35 for the dish I would expect a little bit more attention to what customer gets.
My husband's Chicken Marsala was good.
New Years Eve dinner
Great food, perfect Service ...
In my opinion food is over priced for the quality. The calamari was okay, the chicken marsala was good, the fettuccine with clams was okay, but the spaghetti bolognese was not worth the taste. For a meal that cost well over $35 per person I would expect much better quality.
We had a large group (8 people) and gratuity was added to the bill which is not unusual. A complaint is that when the credit card receipt was given to sign there was no indication that gratuity was already included (and some people may not realize they had already paid gratuity and add another 20%).
Excellent Italian restaurant off Union Square and near theaters. Service was good if not a bit rushed, it was very busy and you feel like they want to rush you through - until time to check out, that took 20 minutes. Overall a very good spot, we would go back.
It was our first visit to the restaurant. On the plus side, the food was very good, and we enjoyed our dishes. However, the restaurant is quite overpriced. As an example, a simple plate of pasta and meatballs is $26.99. My main complaint is the lack of flexibility. My father-in-law is allergic to spinach and mushrooms. When we asked about a substitution to those two vegetables on his plate, we were told that they could only offer another vegetable if we paid for it as a side dish. It definitely felt like they were trying to nickel and dime us, instead of having the courtesy of providing a vegetable for a patron with a food allergy.
We have been coming to P & P for several years now during XMAS holiday, food is great and ambiance fits well for the family. Location close to Union Square, shopping and hotels is great.
This is our "go to" restaurant for theater night. It is within walking distance to all the theaters. It has great food, service, and early reservations to allow a leisurely dinner while still making the curtain time.
Loud and mediocre. Linguini with clams, clams were tiny and the linguini was tasteless. Happy hour is good. Very noisy. Service is not good. Overpriced for what we got in pasta. Fish ok value. Would I return... no.
Delicious authentic Italian food and great service
My husband and I go to Puccini and Pinetti every year around Christmas time! We love that it’s walking distance to Union Square! Also I have Celiac disease, so it’s great they have a gluten free menu! Only reason I’m marking it 4 stars is because though my husband and I ordered the same dish (frutti di mare—sooo good!), they charged $10 extra for the gluten free version! That’s crazy! I could buy at least 3 bags of gf pasta for that. As someone who doesn’t have a choice but to eat gf, it almost feels wrong to be charged that much extra. Other than that, love the food and location!!
I've wondered over the years how this place stays in business. It must thrive on unsuspecting tourists. It is not that it is bad, it's just that there are just so many better places in SF. We ate there many years ago and were nonplussed. We decided to try it again because it was close to the theater and we had kids in our party and ... well ... pasta. Our waiter was great. He honestly assessed the crowd and the kitchen and got us fed and out the door in plenty of time for our show. The food though, was mediocre, and overpriced in relation to the quality. Worst of all was my rib eye steak that was about a half inch thick and overdone. Again, it was not really bad, just not very good.
Went here post theater at holiday time. Food okay at best. Service great.
Glad there are so many better Italian options around to dine at
Great Happy Hour menu. Service was quick and friendly, which was great so we could get to the theater.
We had dinner at Puccini and Pinetti recently, before we went to the Golden Gate Theatre.
We chose it because of what seemed to be good quality, and also the proximity to the theatre.
We got there during happy hour, which seemed to be very happy indeed! The aroma of garlic wafted throughout the restaurant as we entered. Because we had reservations, we got seated right away . I would recommend reservations, especially for dinner.
The servers were polite and efficient, and easily arranged for us to split our bill. The prices are high, but this is San Francisco, and in the theatre district, so don't look for a cheap meal here. However, it was worth every cent!
We will go back the next time we are in San Francisco for a show.
Went to an early dinner after an SHNSF show. Service, appetizers, and main dishes were all very good. We were early enough for happy hour which made the price seem even more reasonable. I would definitely go again.
Last second decision. Glad we did. Priced about right with the neighborhood I thought the food was great, a few in my party thought it was ok because it wasn’t what they were expecting. We all agreed to go back and order what others in our party ordered.
We were in the city with our girls for our annual Christmas night. It was perfect for the kids!
Great deal for bottomless Aperol Spritz’s, but very poor service for an empty restaurant, and bartender seemed irritated when we asked for another drink. Food had no flavor.
Competent, businesslike service in a pleasant enough setting. I particularly enjoyed mussels (generous portion for a starter), an interesting cream-sauced pasta, and a good crème brûlée. Would go again.
Good relaxed sot for pre-theater dining. Service was good and food was quickly served. Wine list is a little pricey but the linguini and clams were very good. The spaghetti and meatballs were ok but meatballs a little dry and over cooked. Creme brûlée was sizable and good for 2 to share.
Great menu options and substantial portions. I had the Lasagna (meat sauce added, which the waiter suggested). It was stuffed with veggies as well and gigantic, so come hungry! The staff was attentive without being intrusive and quite knowledgeable about the wine list. It gets a bit noisy when it is crowded, but service is quick and friendly. It's a great spot for dinner before a show at Feinstein's at The Nikko.
I noted on the reservation that I am gluten free and they had a gluten free menu for me. The food was delicious.
We went to Puccini & Pinetti before going to the theatre. The service was amazing and all of our entrees were delicious.
Started with the house bruschetta. Portion was extremely generous.
For dinner, I had the fettuccine, shrimp and mushroom special. Everything was delicious! I will definitely return.
Food and service was great, and a nice happy hour bar.
I had a fabulously delicious moist thick pork chop and sautéed vegetables and my date had the New York steak, which he said was the best ever. The server and chefs were attentive to informing me of what the ingredients were for various dishes. I needed to avoid Canola oil, which I am allergic to. Many dishes were prepared with a combination of Olive and Canola oils, so my choice was limited to the freshly sautéed carrots and salad greens, which were tasty. Thank you for your allergy-awareness!
The restaurant feels like it is on it's last legs. The food is mediocre and the prices are quite high for the quality of food.
Fantastic food, great service, very reasonable prices. Very loud. Now, we were there on a Saturday night so it was absolutely packed. Reservations are a must. I began with carpaccio and my main course was chicken marsala. Very large portions. I would have saved one of the two chicken breasts to take home, but had nowhere to store in my hotel. My friends had the salmon, minestrone soup, and beet salads and loved every bite. Our server was buried, but attentive, funny and very good. For dessert we had the creme brulee and pumpkin cheesecake, along with the server's recommendation of pumpkin gelato. Again, fantastic. Highly recommend this restaurant. We will definitely be back!
Great food, festive for the holidays, close to all the action at union square, great for kids since it is noisy it masks all their shrieks etc
The restaurant was great about accommodating our last minute reservation time change from 5:30 to 5:45p on a Saturday night. The food was good and they give pretty good portions on their pasta dishes. Our server was nice, but the overall service was just a little slow. The restaurant was easy enough to get to and close to the Curran Theater, which was the primary reason we selected the restaurant.
The food was great, and so was the drink selection. Slightly overpriced since the ambiance is more chill rather than fancy. The only real issue was the lack of service, they must’ve been short staffed. Honestly all around pretty good!
Comfortable environment with friendly and accommodating staff. Chicken Marsala was delicious as was the pomegranate sangria.
