Public Wine Bar
I cannot wait to go back just so I can have the amazing lobster salad with avocado and grapefruit. It was so flavorful & had an incredible sauce. Quite a lovely appetizer & a very nice portion. My entree was branzino with a mustard sauce that was very tasty. My husband had octopus to start with, which was cooked perfect and he really enjoyed. His entree was lamb, which I didn't taste, but he ate every last morsel! The only reason I gave ambiance 4 stars instead of 5 was that these 2 loud guys came in to have a drink at the bar with some people they knew. They smelled like pot and were not dressed appropriately for the restaurant's atmosphere. One of them even grabbed the BASEBALL HAT off the other's head and threw it on the ground.
Overall good dining experience but always annoyed when restaurants won’t provide bread or prepare appetizers until food order is placed. Wanted to relax over quiet dinner but was a bit bothered when we didn’t get the appetizer we ordered because the chef likes to wait until customers order entrees. Food was good.
This was a fantastic meal and I would go here again and again. Top notch!
A hidden gem. Food was dynamite! Selection was good. Price point was the best feature! Definitely going back sooner rather than later!!
Decided to try someplace new for my Birthday celebration. So many places to choose from in SONO but, the reviews on OpenTable drew us to Public Wine Bar. Service was very good, table ready on time and lots of great dishes to choose from for me - a very picky eater. Will definitely go back again!
Cozy place. Really good food. Service was a little casual (friends of the workers in the dining is offputting) but overall solid
This is the 2nd time we’ve been to Public Wine Bar and we’ll continue to come back. The food was very good, they have happy hour from 5-8 every day, so it’s a good value and the ambiance is comfortable.
The place was a great spot the food was very nice and the service was good. My only complaint was the length of time we had to wait for our food and between courses was quite long. Longer then we’d liked.
My husband and I went there for our anniversary the food was amazing. The staff were super kind super friendly. The wine was great. The ambience was great . My husband did not want to leave. We really enjoyed this restaurant We will be coming back soon.
Everything from start to finish was amazing! The salmon was perfect, lobster bisque fantastic. We had berries and cream for dessert delicious 😋 The Maynard white port.... our new after dinner favorite.... a must have!
Discovered Public Wine Bar only recently- good ambiance, friendly service and a good value -
Happy hour(s) are great! We’ll be back!
We’ve been looking for a good restaurant to go to for a while. Really enjoy this place. Great food, great staff, nice owner. However, Two relatively minor things- first, the salad was a little overdressed and on the sweeter side good if you like sweeter dressings but I don’t). Second, despite identifying birthday celebration on the reservation, nothing special was done. Again, minor. Hope you try this place out.
My husband and I go to Public all the time for happy hour. They have great food and drink specials and everything’s always delicious! Andrew, our bartender and server when we sat at a table recently, is attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. We will continue to frequent Public!
Outstanding, personal service. Great food and wine menu.
Love the food, owners, service and highly recommend it for any occasion
The owner was delightful! He was hands on from start to finish. Great suggestions and a nice Pri Fixe Menu option for Lunch. The Bronzino was delicious and the vegetables were very fresh. The decor was stylish and updated with exposed brick. Simple, yet elegant. I will return!
First time there, it was a very nice surprise. Decor and bar are very attractive and comfortable. Staff were very pleasant and capable, including the owner who came over twice to make sure we were happy with every thing. The food came out on time and was delicious. We had the seafood risotto and branzino.
It was great to go to restaurant where you can tell they appreciate your business and enjoy what they are doing. I will certainly go back soon. BTW their happy hour goes till 8:00.
Nice people, great food and good service. Reasonably priced well varied menu. Will definitely be back.
Stopped at the restaurant a bit early on a Saturday night, and it was very quiet. We ordered drinks, apps and entrees. We had read that they offered a happy hour, even on weekends, but forget to ask about it. And our server did not mention it either. Our drinks were both a bit sweet, and neither seemed to have much alcohol. My warm grilled octopus salad was almost an entree sized dish, and well prepared. My wife's baked artichoke app was very good. I ordered the wild boar ragu, even though the waitress said it had a "strong" flavor. Always a fav for me, and unfortunately this dish was a disappointment. The boar was tender, but the Cabernet Sauvignon, listed in the description, was undetectable, and the dish's flavor was overwhelmed by excessive use of Parmesan. My wife ordered halibut, again even though the waitress said people didn't care for its concord grape sauce. It did help what otherwise would have been a bland dish. We each wanted glasses of wine, and were brought the wine list. When I then inquired about happy hour, we were reluctantly told glasses were only $5. Should have asked sooner. We both wished we had dined at the bar; it was the focal point of the room.
My friend and I wanted to try out this new restaurant that popped up in SoNo. Since it was raining, we sat in the back, although we had wanted to sit outside, but weather did not permit. The bread came out with olive oil and some sort of amazing sweet butter! Delicious!
So we started off with drinks - I had rose & my friend had the Pulblic Punch, which she said was very strong and too sweet. It took her the entire meal to drink it! We shared 2 appetizers - the tuna tartar and the octopus. The tuna was ok - not bad, not great... just fine. The octopus was amazing though! So well cooked and very flavorful. For entrees, my friend had pasta with chicken and wild mushrooms. She said the chicken was a little dry, but overall pretty good. I was unsure if I wanted the branzino ($21) or the halibut ($28)... I asked the waiter for his opinion on which to get and he said the halibut. Well, the sides that came with the halibut were delicious. However, the fish itself was very very bland. It was cooked well, but had zero flavor. I wished I had gotten the branzino! I believe the waiter was steering me toward the pricier dish. If not, if the branzino is worse than the halibut, yikes!!
Delicious food and choices for everyone. Lovely salads. Interesting pasta dishes and my halibut was
lovely. A nice wine selection. Service was friendly and professional. Relaxed evening.
We had a fantastic time. The service was beyond what we expected. The drinks were delicious and different :)
The food was tasty and prepared fresh. I have no complaints. Fantastic and I’ll def be back - the chocolate lava cake was sooo good !!!
A very sophisticated menu, yet accessible. The mussels were fresh, the salmon exquisite, the shaved brussels sprout salad was uniquely delicious, and the papparedelle were authentic Italian. It was a beautiful atmosphere and the wait-staff could not have been more kind and helpful. We will return soon, there is so much more on the menu to taste!
Interesting menu. Great ambience. Definitely will go back.
Public Wine Bar is brand new. Opened about a month ago and I must say that the food and drinks were made extremely well. Their website is done very nicely. Anything they offer is made with the highest quality and skill. The ambiance too was very nice, they have live performers playing piano or guitar throughout the evening. In addition, they offer many amazing happy hours! GO HERE!
Our plans for Mother's Day changed at the last minute, and only two restaurants in Norwalk had availability for lunch, so we opted to try Public and we were beyond pleasantly surprised! The tasting menu (especially for a holiday) was reasonably priced, and the servers were very friendly and attentive. We tried tuna tartare, arugala and pear salad, and lobster bisque as our appetizers - all excellent! But the entrees were out of this world: vegetable risotto with truffle oil was terrific, branzino over white bean and meyer lemon kale was wonderful, but the lobster encrusted halibut was out of this world! We really enjoyed our experience! Berries with passionfruit creme, dulce de leche crepes, and mango creme brulee were all very solid! We will come back!
