A good hotel restaurant. The smoked fish dip was amazing but comes with basic crackers and the entrees, whole good, were a smidge over priced for what you get. The only real compliant I had was when ordering a beer. The language barrier with my server was problem when I was asking him what beers came in bottles after they tried to serve canned beer.
The place was fairly empty for prime time on a Friday night so it makes it a good place to have a quiet dinner. Just bring a pillow if you sit in a round booth or back will kill you.
Food took over 45 minutes to get. Once we got our food it was cold. One girl with us didn’t get her food because they told her they ran out.
Service is terrible! Food just OK
Wonderful atmosphere - eclectic decor - very friendly staff - great food!
Few people in dining area. Room is beautiful. Expectation of food was not met.
We spent 5 nights in New Orleans in September 2019, and stayed at the NOPSI hotel. I would highly recommend this restaurant, which is in the hotel. In a city filled with many restaurant options, we ate there 3 times. It hit all the right notes, (vibe, delicious food, décor - we loved the booths). Most of all, our servers for all three nights, Julian and Mohammed, were outstanding. They made us feel special every time we ate there, even remembering our choice of wine. They are excellent ambassadors for the hotel NOPSI and Public Service.
There was some confusion with our reservation. However, they sat us anyway and everything was INCREDIBLE. Our waiter was attentive and personable, he stayed on top of everything. The star at our table was the pulled pork sandwich. We were absolutely blown away by every component of the dish. Will definitely return to Public Service!
We were disappointed that the restaurant week menu wasn’t offered. The restaurant and menu were on the website. When we asked, the waitress checked and said they didn’t know anything about it. This was our first visit, and we found this disappointing.
Food and service were GREAT. The music didn't match the venue and was more in line with the rooftop pool bar.
The food was great and the atmosphere was even better. We ordered both from the Summer menu and the main menu and all was delicious. Iceberg wedge with pork belly was fantastic.
The Rockafeller Soup was delicious! I thought the 2 course meal was a fabulous lunch deal for $15! Will come again!!
Only one other table occupied, yet it took 10 minutes to be acknowledged. Waiter seemed half asleep, food came out wrong. I ordered eggs “over medium” and was served scrambled eggs. When I told the waiter, he insisted that the eggs were scrambled “medium”. What??!! Biscuits were almost frozen in the middle - like they weren’t thawed, much less baked. Won’t be back.
I treated my mother and a few of her friends to lunch at Public Service so they could see the NOPSI Hotel. They all worked for New Orleans Public Service in that building in the 1950s, so it was a trip down memory lane. The hotel staff was wonderful when we arrived and took time to point out various aspects of the building transformation and the elements that had been preserved from the building's previous usage. The food was very good. The service lacked efficiency (not that we were in a hurry). It took the front desk way too long to process our parking stubs and to give change for a $20 bill.
I had a wonderful lunch here with my dad. Great food (we ate from the Summer menu) and service. My dad worked for NOPSI at the adjoining building, so it was also very nostalgic for him.
Server was really good and courteous and the good was very well done and tasty. The description said casual dining but i found it a more fancy environment but the atmosphere was nice and relaxed. Would recommend!
Food was kind of cold. Potatoes were hard and cold. Bacon was rubbery. But Ms. Effie was the best server ever. My date enjoyed his food. And Ms. Effie was so sweet I didn’t wanna trouble her. Idk if I’ll come back on my own.
The food was ok, the service was ok ( it appeared the server was new). The facility looked very clean and neat.
I thought the portions were large which helped make us feel better about the price. The waiter was not as knowledgeable as he maybe should have been and the table next to us brought their dog....which is kinda gross...
Wonderful food but service was so/so
I have been to Public Service previously and enjoyed it,. I was disappointed in the food this time, but I would go back again.
Wonderful dining experience. Upscale modern casual ambience coupled with friendly service and delicious dishes. The live jazz band was above and beyond. A rating.
From our server Julian to all staff on the floor, couldn't ask for better service. Everything was delicious, Julian even played along with preparing coffee milk (hot chocolate) for our 4 year old grandson who insisted he wanted coffee. Thanks for the great service!
Chef Neal’s Shrimp Toast is just delicious. So was the cheesy crab dip, and friend oyster appetizer! Very comforting heart and belly foods.
Great service, fabulous food, cool atmosphere. Loved this fun place! Will definitely go again for great food in a casual atmosphere!
We had pre-symphony dinner Saturday night. Everything we ordered from cocktails to appetizers and entrees was expertly prepared and delicious. It’s abundantly clear the staff enjoy what they’re doing and want to share their exceptional food with you. We had a gin cocktail with a delightful shrub and a bourbon cocktail that was smoky and citrusy at the same time. Appetizers were hush puppies and crab cakes. Divine! Entrees were steak frites, rotisserie chicken and the pear salad with the day’s fresh catch. Without exception, everything that came to our table was beautiful and delicious. We will be back for Easter!
This was our first time eating at Public Service and we will definitely return. Perfect location for dinner before theater. Food was excellent and staff was very knowledgeable and friendly.
The food was excellent. The service was satisfactory. It is a bit noisy because the front half of the restaurant is the bar.
I have been to public service in the past and it was delicious and the service was outstanding!! Flash forward about 1 yr and the food and service are sub par, it is now typical hotel fare and cater waiter service. Everything was deep fried and just a grease ball. I can’t say anything about the service because there was None. Ugh!! I hate when a good place goes bad!!

Really good food with good flavor and great cocktails to pair. Seemed understaffed because our server disappeared for awhile. When she returned, part of our table of 4 food was delivered but 2 entrees were not. The server disappeared again for a longer time. We asked the maître d for assistance who found our server and the 2 missing entrees which had been prepared for some time and were consequently not hot when delivered. Will definitely visit again as I think any place and anyone can have an "off" day. As mentioned the food taste and presentation otherwise was fantastic.
Our server was very friendly, well-versed, helpful and nice. Our drink orders came out quickly. Our entrees came out quickly, as well. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits and was quite satisfied. Everyone finished their meals with the exception of my friend who ordered the crab cake. She wasn't that impressed. The gumbo was good according to the other guest. The ambiance was very grown and upscale. I loved it. I would recommend this place to other diners.
Great food! Ate in the Bar and the Server was “top shelf!”
Had dinner on a Thursday evening around 8:30pm. There was one waiter for the whole restaurant and he seemed to be overwhelmed. We ordered the Blood Orange Wallbanger - but they didn’t have the blood orange and substituted regular orange juice, and it was nothing like a Harvey Wallbanger. The food was mediocre and overpriced.
Food and cocktails were SO GOOD! Will definitely be back for that! Service, however, was lacking. Our waiter was super nice, just not quick and efficient. Our drinks sat at the bar for quite some time before they were finally brought to our table and food order finally placed. Kitchen was quick to bring out food. Server was not great with time management and it was not busy.
We are thrilled you enjoyed your food and cocktails! We apologize for the service issues you encountered and your concerns are being addressed. The team looks forward to serving you again soon.
Food was great, fast friendly service, clean and great music - definitely coming back for another brunch time
Thanks for the great feedback. We have live jazz during brunch every Sunday from 11am to 3pm. Come back and see us soon!
This was a very different experience than I was expecting for my 51st birthday celebration. My husband had a good seafood meal and appetizer. My steak was very overcooked and I had to send it back (I NEVER send anything back). Even though the hostess acknowledged my birthday, the waiter never did. He told me to lie next time I come and I'll get a free dessert. Not exactly a place I'd recommend. Happy Birthday to me.
Thank you for the honest feedback. We apologize for the issues you had with your meal and your service. It is disappointing to hear that we fell so far short of expectations. I have shared you comments with the team and they will be addressed. We appreciate you business.
It wasn’t a special occasion, just a dinner while on vacation. However there were four huge parties/tables including a rehearsal or wedding dinner that stole the good service that we had at the initial part of the meal.
When we arrived, the restaurant was probably half full. After being seated, we waited approximately 10 minutes for a waiter. He took our drink orders & approximately 20 minutes later, we received our drinks (which were not the correct drinks). In the meantime, there were several servers standing around laughing & talking amongst themselves. Our food also took at least 45 minutes to arrive & one order was wrong & had to be returned. The food was mediocre at best. There was never any apology for the delays nor did anyone seem eager to be working. Will not return to this place.
We are sorry to hear that your experience fell so far short of expectations and hope that you accept our sincerest apology. I have shared these comments with the team and your concerns will be addressed. Please know that this is not our standard and we appreciate your business.
The menu was absolutely fantastic. I would go there again despite the poor service. Our waitress in particular just seemed like she didn't want to be there. We had to wait a long time for her to bring us more water (the glasses were a little small so we need a refill frequently). If I remember correctly she refilled our waters once over a long time span. The food we ordered was salty, perfectly salty, but we were thirsty. Then we waited a long time for our bill. After we got our bill I think we waited something like 10-20 minutes before she picked it up again and took our card.
Everything was wonderful! Effie was our waitress. She was top notch as well as each and every staff member we encountered!
Excellent dining experience, my second visit. I was thoroughly pleased, but, just a bit disappointed due to the menu change where the baked whole fish previously offered was no longer available. Aside from this minor item, an excellent experience. The food was freshly prepared and served hot. When my wife's order required modification, the change was handled with a smile and focus on customer service/customer satisfaction. The service was outstanding and made the dining experience extra special. Our server, Shaunte B., was a delightful and attentive professional. She took the time to explain the meal offerings, thoughtfully accepted special requests from our table and she performed amazingly well given she was both the hostess and server for multiple diners. Shaunte remained calm, cool and engaging and provided exceptional service even though she was clearly over-extended, due to staffing shortages at the restaurant. Overall, an excellent dining experience, that was enhanced by exceptional service and equally excellent food!
