Great food and service. I would go back. The music was way too loud and there was only one bathroom for everyone. It didn't need the bouncer or dj, the set up is more suitable for a chill place, not a club. The owner needs to figure out what he/she is going for because people went there for a chill rest of the night (couples, people with their parents, and coworkers were most of the restaurant) based on what the website presented and didn't expect the loud music or bouncer. I went with my significant other and mother/daughter table next to us asked if we expected it to be so loud or expected to have our IDs checked.
A group of friends and I went to Public House for Valentines to get the cake shakes. The food was good, and the shakes were pretty looking. I don’t know that I would go again and pay $15 for a cake shake, but it was worth doing once.
Best burger in Chicago! Had lunch with a friend and the setting was just right for conversation and great food. Location on State Street in the heart of the city. Will look forward to returning next visit to the city. We enjoyed our visit, and restaurants like Public House contributed to our enjoyment.
fun place to dine with co-workers. Innovative menu.
We tried Public House for lunch during restaurant week. We had made a reservation but that wasn’t necessary on a Monday afternoon. The hostess was polite and seated us immediately. Our server came shortly after we were seated to take the drink order and explain the menu. She was friendly and attentive, but not overly so, throughout the meal. The wait staff were also exceptional at keeping our water glasses full and clearing empty plates. The restaurant week menu was an awesome deal and the regular menu looked on par with similar places in the area ($12-$15 for burgers and sandwiches). We had the build your Mac and cheese, which was Ah-Mazing — creamy and cheesy and a good size portion. I had the Baja tacos and my boyfriend had the burger. Both were full of flavor. The tacos had good balance, sweet and heat, but were a little small. The burger was cooked perfectly, very juicy. Dessert was mini cake shakes and we tried both vanilla and chocolate. The minis were a perfect small size to end a 3-course lunch. The cake sat on top of the shake. The vanilla cake was confetti and the chocolate was simple chocolate with white icing. Both cakes were good, dense (in a good way), and not too sweet. Personally preferred the chocolate cake. The milkshakes were flavored with porters based on the menu but they tasted like regular vanilla and chocolate milkshakes to me. Good though and paired perfectly with the cake. Highly recommend the full size ones. I saw the monthly special served (Valentine’s Day themed) and it looked incredible.
Chicago Restaurant Week - good food. service was slow. lots of miscommunication. they did a great job of accommodating and making up for any issues.
We arrived at 9:55 am, at 10:00 a guy came out and said their system was down, we asked if we could wait inside the restaurant as it was freezing outside, he laughed and said “you’re gonna have to ask the manager” he kept laughing and went back inside. A lady came out and let us in, we didn’t mind waiting but the personnel was rude and had an attitude. Our waitress was great tho and the food was good so that somehow made it up for it. Disappointed, as we were visiting all the way from Texas.
I treated four of my girlfriends from California to dinner at Public House. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was fantastic. The only downfall was that we had a child with us, (I called to make sure she would be allowed in and was told she would be fine until 9:30pm) we arrived at 8:00pm and were carded when we walked in the door. This automatically made us feel awkward since we had a little girl with us. She was welcomed in and had a great time after we were seated. Overall, it was a great time.
Perfect! My friends and I came for my birthday and enjoyed the whiskey/cocktails that were served. The only thing we didn’t appreciate were the gigantic TV’s. I understand it’s a sports bar so whatever, but it was hard to keep a conversation when people were getting distracted. Overall, I was pretty tipsy (in that buzzed feel-good type way) but it’s more of a pregame spot! Would have been awkward dancing with limited space.
I had an interesting experience. We ordered the vanilla shake. The piece of cake on top tasted weird, so we told her manager and they determined that garlic was spilled on the cake or something. So they took it off our bill and gave us a piece of good chocolate cake. Besides that situation, the food was great and the restaurant was cute. They handled everything well. Would eat here again.
Meal and service were good. Prices are reasonable.
Loved the atmosphere. Seemed to be filled with young adults. Beware they card at the door but if you have a reservation with people over 21 you should be ok.
This place used to be a favorite but the food and drinks have been disappointing my last three visits .
Service was bad from the valet, who scraped my car door to the bouncer who mis treated my teenage daughter, to our poor server who was rude. Would never recommend. Very limited menu, loud and below average quality food. Way overrated.
Great place. Always my go to!
Always good consistent food with a good beer selection. Come here for business lunch and to watch sports good spot.
Reserved a booth for a big group and was not disappointed! We watched football and ordered a bunch of apps to share. Very fun atmosphere and quick service during a busy time. Will definitely go back!
Great food as usual.
Good staple lunch spot in River North. Food is a little pricey for what it is - but very good none the less. It can be a little loud at peak hours. I recommend the Pulled Chicken Salad - it is great!
We reserved a table for 8 people a month in advance, then arrived and were given a table for 6. Miserable meal as a result. Wont go back!
Fun place to watch football and have a few cocktails. Service was great!
Our waitress looked and sounded confused. We were a party of 6 so it's not like we were too many to handle. Her visits to the table were few and far between. The Belgium mussels were fantastic. Two of us had the Wygu beef brisket dip which seemed more like beef crumbs than nice chunks of brisket. We celebrated a birthday and rather than ask which dessert we preferred, which was the (pumpkin pie cake shake) she brought us chocolate chip cookies, at least they were warm.
The food was good - but the drinks were sub-par. The happy hour special Old Fashioned tasted like sugar & whiskey. We were also served well whiskey instead of the Knob Creek Single Barrel that we ordered, luckily they re-poured it for us. Both times though the whiskey was served in a wet glass. I understand being busy on a Friday night with after-dinner drinks, but a dry glass would have been nice - especially since we were siting in the dinner area, not the bar. Overall I had a fun time, and the food was good, but wished we had ordered different drinks or just stuck to beer.
We loved their Poke and Salads! Service was great and food tasted awesome.
Great service and ambience , good for an after marathon get together.
Public House was an enjoyable scenery for after-work drinks with co-workers. Reasonable happy hour deals, good service, accessible location, and a little noisy but made for a vibrant environment. I would recommend to others!
Wonderful food, wonderful service. Very impressed with the environment!
Food and service were great. Very loud and would get table outside next time.
We went here for a sunday brunch and to watch the Bears game! It was great
Drinks were delicious, I had the Pink Basil. My Pesto flatbread was also AMAZING! The service was a little scarce, but it was pretty busy for a late Monday night. They had run out of mussels and brisket when we got there which was disappointing.
