What Insiders Are Saying
Public House is a good all-around bar in River North with solid food and plenty of TV's.
Visited from out of state and found on the web. Loved the experience. Don’t forget to try the desserts.
Had a nice late lunch. Deviled eggs are awesome!! Very good burger and salad. Thanks for gluten-free!!!
Fun atmosphere, great food. Would definitely go back!
Amazing .. great birthday brunch
Made a reservation weeks in advance for a party of 8, only to be squeezed in to a table clearly meant for 6. However, when inquiring to the manager, he did move us to an appropriately sized table and threw in a few desserts - really clever/cute cake shakes including one made to look like the grinch. Good service from the manager!
Waitress, on the other hand, was slow to respond, to refill drinks, and to provide things asked for.
Food was good. Not 5 stars, but definitely worth a return trip.
We really enjoy our dining experience. Food was delicious 😋. Service was good. My BLT plus turkey was amazing. Two people could easily share this meal.
I come here every time I visit Chicago. I would not miss the awesome beer or cocktails. I personally loved the Old Fashioned cocktail. And just love, love the boozy cake shake. Do make a reservation, especially on weekends. The service was outstanding and friendly. There are multiple TV's with sports showings. The menu is fantastic, there is lots of good pub grub and more.
They said they were a sports bar. We called to verify we could get a good table to watch a college football game. When we arrived the table had obstructed views and there was no sound for the game.
This is not a sports bar.
Outstanding!!! I had the southwest salad...best salad I’ve ever had! Brussels sprout appetizer was also amazing!
The public house was absolutely great and even though some of my friends were underage they still treated us with respect and made my birthday one of the best. Not only was the service great, but so was the food. I highly reccomend this place.
Loved there Mac and Cheese!! I always drive up to Chicago for my birthday and eat here!
Good food, but service is SO slow
Came in on a Thursday evening before a show at HOB. Glad I made reservations because the place was full. Unfortunately, I wasn't greeted when I stepped up to the host/hostess booth. The girl behind the booth seemed very preoccupied and wasn't very warm or inviting once she finally acknowledged me. I was a bit early, but the table was ready and was seated immediately.
Our server was prompt and welcoming at first, but then once initial drinks and appetizers were ordered she went MIA for quite sometime. The food came out quickly and everything we ordered was delicious. We weren't checked on again while we dined, which was disappointing. We flagged our server down for the check at the end.
If you're going, go for the ambiance, location and food. Don't except super attentive service on a busy night.
Great cake shakes!
Service was attentive, our server Victoria provided suggestions. She said they were known for their smoked wings and they were delicious! It came with a side of BBQ, Buffalo and dipping sauce for carrots and celery. We came in on a Tuesday and they had a special for a burger and beer for $10. It came with a side of sea salt fries. That was equally as good. For the finally, their famous chocolate cake shake! Oh my, this dessert was 3 in 1! The shake had a beer stout mixed in and it complimented the chocolate very well. I would recommend experiencing Public House for a weekday lunch date. I hear, it can be packed on weekends and especially for brunch. I would come back.
Thank you guys so much for making my birthday special ! Special thanks to my server Beth and food runners for great service ! Had a great time !
The food was so good and the atmosphere was fun, although it is loud.
Great food and service. Fun menu with options for everyone. Cake shakes are a fun treat.
delivious. the bubba and I ate the cheese curds and burgers. delightful. will be returning soon.
First time there, thought very good food and had a great booth for six people. It was a little loud on side we were on but overall I really enjoyed it. Beer slightly on high price side, but normal for area.
Very good food. Friendly service, food came quickly. I got there 45 minutes before my reservation, and with an additional guest. The hostess not only got me a different table to fit my party, but she got me seated before my scheduled time. All this on a busy Friday night. Great job.
The food had huge portions. It was extremely loud so advice would be don’t go if you want to talk at a normal volume. But the food was good and server helped change the tv to a different game.
I was able to be seated quickly during a busy day and time. I was disappointed that it was characterized as a sports bar yet, there were not enough televisions to televise all games the patrons wanted to watch. I sat on the side of the bar opposite of the game I wanted to view. I purchased food and prior to understanding that the channel would not be changed. I had to watch from my phone, which could have been done elsewhere without spending money at Public House. While they have tv’s, you may not want to choose this restaurant if your goal is to watch a particular sporting event.
BBQ sandwich, chicken burger and poutine were excellent. Fish and chips were overcooked. Fries were also a bit over done. Service was friendly and attentive. We would definitely return.
Overall, public house is a great place to get together with friends before going out at night. However, this was my first time having brunch there and I was very disappointed. Our waiter was rude and the food was poor quality. My confetti pancakes tasted/smelled like burger meat and monkey bread was cold and had no frosting on it. On top of that we were there to celebrate a birthday and I called 2 days in advance to make sure that a “Cake shake” was brought out for the individuals birthday and that never happened. I don’t mean to be rude but this is the first time public house has highly disappointed me and friends who came from out of state to celebrate.
Pretty decent Bloody Mary’s. Both the breakfast sandwich and egg burrito were delicious. Coffee could be better. Great service.
The food was so good, the space is fun and comfortable!! My only warning is don’t be in a hurry or under any time constraints...service was very slow, friendly but very slow
We had reservations at 3:30 pm we arrived sat down now problems but to order our drinks to food took about 25 30 min. The restaurant was not busy at all but maybe understaffed when we finally got our food. It was cold and not as tasty as the pictures. Over all experience ok. Food not good would we visit again not on top of the list
Food was great and service was decent. Hugo the busser however is the reason for the 5 starts. Never let our drinks go lower than half way and whenever the server was no where to be found he took my orders. Will come back for Hugo!
Wonderful service and food! We’ll definitely be back :)
Great food! Fun ambiance, but a bit too loud for a working dinner (surprisingly, even early on a Tuesday night there were many folks who had one too many). That said, I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in town.
Veronica was the absolute best! She was very attentive and so nice. Food was also fantastic. The chicken wings came out so HOT and FLAVORFUL! It was my 1st time visiting and I will definitely be back!
We were in town and I wanted to come here just for the cake shakes. I’m glad we also decided to eat lunch. The food was delicious and of course the cake shake was amazing. Service was great. Everyone was very friendly. We visit Chicago often and will definitely be back.
Delicious food! Attentive and up beat staff💃🏽❤️ Decadent desserts and healthier entree options.
Went for my birthday brunch and enjoyed my experience. The food was good and the service was great! I was expecting it to be a little more day party vibes, but it was a little bit more chill than that. Overall it was nice time, me and my friends enjoyed the food and drinks!
Great place to go to for lunch! Near everything and great environment!
Great food, service and ambiance . We celebrated a cooleague’s birthday. She was offered a menu of celebration treats ( a selection of “shake cakes”, etc.). She opted for ice cream and cookies with enough for everyone to shar!
The vanilla stout milkshake was absolutely amazing. It was very expensive ($15) but we shared among 3 people and it was more than enough. The grilled cheese sandwich was also a highlight. Our server was excellent and always on top of everything.
The table where we sat had beer on tap, and you could serve yourself. However, we arrived later at night (9pm) and it was VERY busy and loud. If you’re going to this restaurant and want a more dinner- and conversation-based experience, don’t go late, as it is more like a bar.
Plenty of food choices & beverage choices. All tasty. Good portions and pricing. Highly recommend, would return sgain
Thoroughly enjoyed our time spent at Public House. Nice environment. Friendly staff. Upscale yet also casual/comfortable. Unique menu with ample choices. Returned the next day, to relax and watch the plethora of sporting events on the MANY t.v.’s. Fun, relaxing, trendy, sporty, casual place to enjoy food and drinks! Highly recommended. Thanks, Public House, for helping to make our stay in Chicago a very memorable one.
