It was as expected, a dark spot to hang out and be with friends. It had very refined taste and atmosphere.
Our waitress was very rude and acted as if our questions/requests were a hassle for her from the very beginning. The bar was very quaint and comfy, however. Valet is the only onsite option and after waiting 10-15 min for our vehicle, at 11:15pm with nobody else around, the valet brought up the wrong one so we waited another 10 min. As much as I enjoyed the venue, I don’t think I would return as the service was not fabulous and, for me, that can make or break an enjoyable evening out. In stark contrast, we dined upstairs at Tavernonna beforehand and our server was, fortunately, fantastic.
Great experience, didnt try any food, but the drinks were great and reasonable prices.
This is such a fun place. Loved the ambiance and drinks. They do not have any food, only 4 snack options, which is why I rated food as fair.
So cool!! We loved the history and experience. We tell everyone!
Had great drinks and service but the receipt we signed was not what we were charged. They charged us our order twice. Now we have to call our card company and dispute that. Will b annoying and a headache. Suggest paying in cash so this doesn't happen to you.
Had a great time with friends enjoying great music!!
PS Speakeasy is a beautiful bar and the live jazz entertainment was stellar; however, my date and I were disappointed in the cocktail selection. We both wanted an after dinner cocktail (espresso martini and chocolate martini) and they could not make either one since they did not have the necessary liquor and ingredients. We did order other cocktails and both were good - just not what we were hoping for. Staff was friendly and attentive.
We did not eat there.
The service was great and the drinks were good. Extremely disappointed that they ran out of one of their cocktails as their seasonal menu is limited and that’s what most people go for: craft cocktails. The ones we had were very good
I loved my experience at P.S. Speakeasy! The bartender was extremely knowledgeable about cocktail history and creation and very friendly and willing to educate. The jazz band that was playing, À La Mode, was absolutely fantastic and really helped transport all of us watching back to a time when this really would have been a speakeasy hiding from the local law. Very fun environment, incredible cocktails, friendly and helpful staff, and great live entertainment. Highly recommend.
I was hopeful with this location. Perhaps it’s much better with music on a Thursday night, this past Friday night was less than desirable. There was no background music - expected perhaps some Rat Pack era or Jazz.
It has so much potential, perhaps starting with the service staff vibe and atmosphere. Please, please, please keep working on making it “an experience”.
The Langston & Prototype Band never disappoints. They compliment the space and create an engaging and enjoyable experience.
The ambiance and the theme where a lot of fun. The service was lacking. I don't know that I would ever go back again.
Made the bachelor party feel especially important by seating us in the corner with all the comfy couches
Interesting location in basement of hotel. Atmosphere could have been better if it was a little darker and not so many lights. Needs to have more mystique like atmosphere. The drink menu was interesting and enjoyable. Not much of a selection for snacks or other food.
Great experience. Great cocktails and service. Would recommend to anyone who wants some nostalgia or experience an ambiance of going to a speakeasy or relaxing environment
This speakeasy was outstanding! The place is beautiful, the music was on point, the noise was minimal and I could actually talk to my fiancé. The staff was very nice and accommodating. 4/5 for drinks because mine had a very strange, bitter taste to it. My fiancé loved his though. We will definitely come back!
Great place to go after dinner. We were sure to make reservations as I had heard that some people were turned away. Latest time available for a reservation was 9:00p so we took it. The place was about 1/3 full when we arrived but got increasingly busier throughout the evening. My wife and I enjoyed 4 different drinks (2/each). Each one was unique - allowing us to taste each ingredient w/out being too strong. I had assumed the vibe would be like Manifesto. Although it wasn't, it was still a great experience and a cool place to hang out for a couple of drinks at the end of the night.
Our first time at PS and we really enjoyed it! We will definitely be back.
Had a great time here - loved the atmosphere! Drinks were good but they did run out of trail mix which was sad since they did not have many snack options to choose from. Overall would definitely return!
Was a very cool place! The drinks were delicious and the seating options were perfect for the speakeasy era. I wish the images on the wall were a little bit larger or more of them - since its dark down there, I couldn't really tell what any of them were. The music was a little loud - there weren't too many people there early in the evening and found it difficult to talk to the person next to me.
Great atmosphere and drinks. I'd definitely go back. Only draw back was our waitress...maybe she was just having a bad night, but she wasn't the nicest. Almost felt like we were a burden to her. Everyone else was great though.
Had really tasty cocktails (pricey at $12-15) but the service was average. We had requested high top in our reservations made 2 weeks before and were offered a booth. No big deal. The service can be described as pretentious hipster and we got the feeling we were asking dumb questions about the menu. Overall a pleasant time and nice experience with friends, just didn’t leave with the feeling that we would come back. Also hotel Phillips apparently has limited valets who can drive a standard so when we left we were walked back to our car as the one girl who could drive my Subaru had left for the night (we left @ 945). Found that very strange.
We did not eat there and I don’t believe they serve food.
We went there with a small group for drinks and it was a great time. Laid back, craft cocktails, and an all around enjoyable lounge atmosphere .
Very large noisy group that ruined the experience for us. It was a wedding party and people kept coming in and out and it was difficult to have a conversation
First going and I like it, went to see Langston & Prototype and he never disappoints. Wish there were more small bite options..
Bartender was great. Made the experience
The bar itself is decorated very well to create a comfortable, relaxing environment that is in my opinion the best "speakeasy" vibe in KC. Live jazz music from A La Mode was beautiful and made it feel it even more like a speakeasy from the 30s. The drinks were very well made and presented and I think reasonably priced. Only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars was the food; we got the charcuterie board and were unfortunately disappointed in how little variety there was (one small block of cheese, a few pieces of two meats, and no fruit). For the price, I definitely expected more than that. Still overall a wonderful place to go and we will definitely be going back again!
Such a fun place and the DJ was awesome!
Loved the ambiance and live music at PS! Decor was amazing, very intimate and romantic. My fiance and I were disappointed by the 'meat and cheese' plate we ordered for $20 and felt it was definitely not worth the price. Our craft cocktails were excellent.
The server stemmed to rush us as she told us twice they were closing in an hour. We stopped in after a concert just my husband and I. The food was just ok and the drinks were fine. We probably won’t be repeat customers
I went with a party of 8 to P.S. and had made reservations in advance. We loved the quick service and the music was great. We sat right next to the jazz band, but were still able to have conversations without yelling. The atmosphere is great too; upscale and laid back. Would definitely recommend.
The space is beautifully decorated and it has a nice feel. Had the best Whiskey Sour ever!
I was disappointed by the significant noise level that made it difficult to have conversation without leaning toward your companion in order to overcome the din. I had anticipated an environment that would be more subdued, semi-private, even romantic. While the visual ambiance fit this description, the noise level was just shy of a bachelorette party due to a large group of women talking past one another. The drinks were generally good, but not enough to justify the premium pricing. I had really hoped to find a new favorite haunt. But the search continues...
My group and I selected PS Speakeasy for a birthday celebration. The birthday girl wanted a "speakeasy vibe" so we decided to check it out for the first time. As soon as we walked in the door, we were greeted by the incredibly friendly and helpful host, Fritz. He was amazing and even shared some of the history about the hotel and lounge, which we found very interesting. Every cocktail we tried was delicious and one of people in our group did the "tell the bartender what you like and we'll make it" mentioned on the menu and it was one of the best drinks we tried all night!
They only had one waitress for the entire place. She was also making drinks at one point. There were a ton of people there so it's crazy that only had one person working on a busy Saturday night.
We had so much fun celebrating our 44th anniversary. The venue is cozy and the jazz was so good. Highly recommend for a glass of spirits with your Baby and fun music.
Perfect kind of romantic date place. The drinks are very strong :)
While we were staying at the Hotel Phillips, we were notified that they had a Speakeasy. You can't go to KC and not visit one. There was a 3 piece band with a singer dressed in 1920's attire, which was cool. And it was fun to go downstairs through the unmarked door. I had a cocktail that was "ok" and it cost $15.00. We only stayed for 20-30 min to have the experience.
