A dining room built around a pivotal instrumental element, a mammoth wood- burning oven designed to churn out anything with smoky traces and a pizza-like crust. All urban rusticity, patrons will find themselves in a convivial space where confident food is served in a relaxed atmosphere.
Subtle and polished, “Provisions” aims to serve properly sourced ingredients through thoughtful presentation. Whether dining at the bar where expert cocktails and a broad wine list are available to wash down seasonal menu items, or seated in the lush outdoor patio, diners will witness pizzas made with good ingredients married well, roasted meats, and fresh pastas surfacing from a wood fired oven, all cooked in hot fragrant smoke.

The Pass and Provisions
Provisions Ratings and Reviews
Provisions came highly recommended by a friend and we will be recommending it as well. Provisions is a great compliment to The Pass with an equally amazing atmosphere and value while having a totally different experience.
My wife and I showed up early to our reservation so that we could have a drink at the bar before hand. The cocktail program is very good and its creativity ties in well with the rest of The Pass & Provisions. We split an order of bread and cheese, cauliflower soup, and butternut squash pizza for dinner. All of the portions were big enough to share and each dish was delicious. We also had another cocktail during dinner.
We will be back and will be suggesting Provisions to others.
Great dining experience from the atmosphere, the vibe, the service and the food and drinks. The menu seems limited but our waiter did a great job of explaining the different items and how best to order for sharing among our group of 4. We had two pasta dishes and one main course shared between 4 of us which was more than enough after having the bread and cheese pairings and a shared pizza. The pasta dishes were outstanding and very, very unique- this is not your typical Italian fare so if you are picky or want the "basics", you will probably not enjoy the available options. However, if you are willing to try new foods and flavors you will love the flavor combos they have put together.
My husband and I have been to this restaurant numerous times. We have noticed a decline in the food quality during the last two years but our last (and it will be the last!) meal at Provisions a few nights ago was terrible! I ordered a veal and squash ragú served over pasta and could not finish it because it was permeated with grease and had an unpleasant flavor. The Caesar salad looks pretty but does not have sufficient dressing so that after the top layer bites you are eating dry lettuce. The menu does not give you enough options to order a well balanced meal. Our server was excellent - she was efficient and friendly without being cloying.
We were there for New Years! We had a lovely time. We like most choices on the menu; dessert was a disappointment. Being 'older,' we could hear which is very important to us. The food was light and small portions which was perfect for us. We would like more festive, but will be back!
what a popular place! we arrived right on time for our 8:15pm reservation and apparently the restaurant was having trouble getting other tables to finish up. We finally got seated around 8:45pm and you could tell they were a little short staffed as our waiter had about 6 tables and one was 12 people or more. this was our first time here so we were not sure what to think about it. we ended up having about 4 waiters - even the chef was helping out. they recognized we had been waiting a while and even gave us a bottle of wine with our short rib - which was amazing. all the food was really great and it was a fun atmosphere. would definitely love to come back and try more pizza, pasta and meats. they handled the craziness of the night well and it was much apprecaited. it was not a cheap meal so the extra effort from the chef and staff really paid off when it came to service.
Service was great, our server was attentive, made good suggestions and never rushed us as we took our time on our selections. The noise level was low, it was easy to carry a conversation with friends across the table. All the food was excellent, would definitely tell friends to check this place out.
We were a party of four celebrating my wife's birthday. It was not crowded (Monday) and the noise level was low enough to carry on normal conversation. The food is eclectic and creative and requires an adventurous guest to fully enjoy the experience. Everyone in our group really enjoyed the food. The service was paced for a relaxed evening of dining. Our waiter even served us a surprise candle-lit tiramisu to help celebrate. We would certainly dine here again.
I had been to The Pass a couple of times but this was my first time to try Provisions. The ambiance was great, I loved the more casual feel and the food was excellent. We started with one of the bread and cheese pairings (pumpernickel, beer jelly and blue cheese). It was SO good. A great pairing and didn't feel stiffed on the portion but still had an appetite for dinner when it arrived. I had the kielbasa and everything about it was great. Portion size was perfect and it wasn't too heavy. I was thinking I was going to feel overly full, but the portion and it's accompaniments were just right.
The only reason I can't give this review 5-stars and would still choose The Pass over Provisions was because of our waitress. I would expect pretty decent and knowledgeable staff at a place with this sort of reputation. Our waitress was not particularly friendly and did not know the wine list. When I asked about the two sherries listed on the menu, she seemed surprised and had to look at the menu on the table to see what I was talking about. Instead of just saying "I'm not sure/I'm not familiar with these, let me go ask" she proceeded to make up a couple generic statements that immediately confirmed she knew nothing about the wines I had asked about. It left me feeling awkward and annoyed. I'm sure that if you get a better server, you will have a great time at this restaurant.
This was our first experience with Provisions which comes with many good reviews on OpenTable; sadly, we were seriously disappointed. Provisions attempts to be creative and somewhat unique but in our experience outruns its ability to deliver. The dishes are unusual but lack balance and finish. We found the menu confusing and difficult to organize a meal with variety and balance. My guess is that you need to be in a large group or be a regular customer who has navigated a confusing setup before. The vichyssoise was a disaster and something in one of the dishes triggered allergic reactions for both my wife and me (severe in my case, needed some Benadryl to prevent my throat from closing up). I was also disappointed that the wine by glass was poured from a bottle that had been opened for longer than it should have. Ordinarily, I would regard this as an unfortunate first experience and try again on another occasion, but this was sufficiently ‘off’ to make it hard to try Provisons again or recommend it to friends.
First of all, I rarely write a review so when I do I hope that someone will read it and learn from my mistakes. I don't usually complain or vent on line. While the fish on the Houston Restaurant Weeks menu had a nice flavor, the portion given to me was extremely small. I'm talking tiny. The only Chardonnay on the menu by glass was $17.00. I rarely spend that on a bottle of "everyday" wine. Trust me, it wasn't worth $17.00. If you go to this restaurant, do yourself a favor and order off the regular menu. Those that ordered burgers looked like the chose wisely. I was still hungry when I left the restaurant.
