This place would like for you to think it's high class, but it's only so on the surface. The service is pushy and inattentive. They left the dirty dishes on the table sitting, the staff was pretty much useless and the food was unimaginative and trite, not to mention poorly prepared and lackluster in taste. But hey, the bathroom is cool! That's about it. I'd not recommend this restaurant if you are interested in having good food and service.

Stopped by for breakfast. Everything was good though nothing outstanding.
When I first arrived for breakfast there were two or three other parties. The hostess was going to sit me immediately next to another party with a wide open restaurant.

Once seated at the bar facing the sidewalk it was a pleasant experience.

We had a wonderful time at the Provisional. I'm a new(er) vegetarian and am still struggling to find really delicious things on menus. This menu was so accommodating. The carrots and brussel sprouts were fantastic, and you have to try the seasonal pumpkin truffle ravioli. Our server (I think her name was Denise) was great and had excellent recommendations. I put the noise level at a 3 because we sat on the patio, and there were a bunch of bicycle taxi's with loud music that drove by. It wasn't annoying but something to be aware of if you're wanting quiet.

Not worth the money. Beautiful restaurant, feels like you’re dining at restoration hardware, but very basic food for the price.

Food was a great value; ordered 2 small dishes and an entree to share and ended up spending under $40 before tip. Service was relatively slow and inattentive though. We had empty water glasses for a while before we could flag down our server for more. A mixed experience; not sure I would recommend for dinner.

Experienced it the first time during San Diego Restaurant Week

1. SERVICE: Great service. Rick, our server, greeted within 5 minutes. we had to request SDRW menus.He resolved immediately.

{Hostess should note SDRW reservation - I put it in my notes along w celebrating a birthday which was not acknowledged either}

Then we were told that SDRW is just 2 course when we reserved with understanding 3 courses per SDRW website and Provisional’s website. He did say it was incorrect and wasn’t sure who manages website. I don’t think that matters to us as patrons. He then checked with manager and came back to tell us they would honor it and remove menu from website.

{In future, If they knew about the error, the server be told to immediately honor should anyone bring it up rather going to a manager.}

{Given our {me +2} first experience at restaurant during SDRW, manager should have greeted the table. They were not super busy so definitely could have done. In fact, I think I noticed her around our table.}

2. F&B: Per usual with SDRW, the menu was limited but there was a nice variety. I chose to start with Baby Kale Salad. It was delish and a good size. Unfortunately, the nuts were all at the bottom and so wasn’t aware to mix it up a bit until noticed.

Next, I had the Fish Sandwich. The fish was tuna. Unfortunately the tuna was over cooked and had no seasoning BUT the lemon aioli sauce saved it. With that sauce, this sandwich was delish! Unfortunately, needed just a little more. Perhaps having some extra on side to add would be a nice option.

Finally, for dessert I chose the Bombolini Donuts. Unfortunately, I felt they should make it 3 holes versus 2. It was served on a large plate which made it look even skimpier. Either they change the size plate or add a hole.

I forgot to mention we started with the 3 flight mimosas. Loved it! Great serving size for price too.

Overall, will return and recommend.

The Pendry is a beautiful hotel. Valet, Front Desk, and the servers at Provisional Kitchen were pleasant and competent (the hostess not so much). The table settings are cute, and the look of the place is fabulous. But, I think that's what you are paying for, as the food certainly didn't warrant the outlandish prices.

I ordered the Pendry breakfast ($17), and my eggs were tasteless and my bacon dry. Companion ordered the crab cake Eggs Benedict ($24), and they said it was the best benny they've ever had, except they had to send it back as it was ordered without the truffle oil and they splashed it on anyway. We also ordered an assorted pastry basket ($11 on the menu, charged $12) - but it wasn't so much a great assortment as you got 3 pastries. Also ordered o.j. ($6!) ((for an 8 oz. glass!)), and tea (also $6 for run-of-the-mill quality).

Total came to $85 with tip, which is quite the outlay for breakkie. Also, valet parking is $15 for the first 3 hours on a weekend, so that's not too bad for the convenience. Can't say I'd recommend PK for breakfast - there are other, tastier, cheaper places to dine.

It was a quiet evening in the restaurant, with relative few guests. We chose to sit at the bar and eat dinner there. It was a great choice and the bartender, Sam, was excellent.

The food was good, but not as good as I would expect fort the price. The waitress could have been more knowledgeable about the menu and more attentive. We were not offered bread and it took forever to get it once we asked.

Service was excellent. The food is pretentious. Halibut over cooked. Our friend ordered the 79.00 tomahawk steak, and that’s all that came, a big ol plate of meat. This restaurant doesn’t believe in carbs. 3 asparagus spears served with the halibut.

Went for brunch and had a great experience! Food was delicious, and there were several other menu items that we wanted to try, but would have been too much food for just 2 people. The French Toast was especially good! Would go again for sure & would recommend as a great brunch place in the Gaslamp district.

We dined at Provisional on a Friday night before catching a show at the Civic Theatre. All in all the entire experience was excellent and I will definitely be back. For starters, our server Gabby was fantastic. She was very friendly, helpful, and informative. We started with the whipped ricotta & honey with grilled focaccia, which was delicious. Make sure to ask for extra bread though! For dinner I got the bucatini, and my boyfriend got the margherita pizza. The bucatini was delicious and very flavorful. The noodles were nice and thick, and the sauce was amazing. The margherita pizza was also excellent. Very simple, but with great flavor. The sauce/tomatoes were slightly sweet, which made a good contrast to the crust. For dessert, we got the bamboloni with raspberry. This was really the only disappointing portion of the meal. The doughnuts themselves were good, but neither of us were fans of the raspberry filling. I think they added orange zest or juice to the raspberry, which was too overpowering and tart. Just plain, sweet raspberry jam would have been much better. Like I said though, overall it was great and I would definitely recommend!

The service was great! The presentation on the food was beautiful. With the exception of the complementary steak tartare which we were treated to, the food wasn’t as impressive as we recall it being when we were there about 4 months ago. We had halibut which was cooked nicely but no “wow” factor and mussels, which I came back for. The mussels weren’t as flavorful with less “punch” than I remembered. We came on a Wednesday night and there were hardly any people there, though the ambiance of the restaurant is very nice.

I was seated near the bar. The servers forgot about me, and I had to flag someone down. I got a bucatini and a strawberry cocktail. The meal was great, but the service was sporadic despite the restaurant being half empty. The bartender ended up helping me out and saving the day.

Chef needs to do a better job a) picking out large chunks of fat from Carnitas and b) cooking poached eggs - mine was closer to hard boiled than poached. Service was pleasant and attentive.

Provisional kitchen is a delightful place to have brunch. The live music is a nice touch - better than piped-in. I was disappointed in the vegetable pita. Last time I had the avocado toast which was amazing. And both times the person I went with had the egg sandwich which was outstanding. The design of the place feels art deco and the service was impeccable. I find the prices a little steep but it is the going rate around town. I'll only be able to come to Provisional Kitchen when I feel flush. Otherwise it's breakfast at home.

The focaccia bread with tomato confit and veal meatballs starters were excellent.
We also ordered the Spaghetti Nero as one of our main dishes. It was offered and priced as a main course; however the portion was absurdly petite-smaller than most appetizer/starter portions. In comparison the Buccatini pasta main dish we ordered was very good and of a normal sized portion - but double in size of the spaghetti dish. We pointed it out to our server who said we weren’t the first to express the disappointment and she would convey our comments to the Chef. If similar complaints have been received, why hasn’t the problem been immediately addressed and corrected? The server confirmed the Chef’s only response was that we weren’t the first to complain. We ended up sharing the Buccatini - but the Chef AND the restaurant management made NO attempt to address and correct a serious mistake - and a still hungry customer - and make it right for something that looked ridiculous for a main dish. It was was A MISSED OPPORTUNITY for the restaurant to make an excellent impression!
