Pricey but worth it. Had the 4course Dine LA fixed menu which was more than ample because of the 5 amuse bouche.
Food was excellent from start to finish.

Providence is always perfect. For celebrating a special occasion, it always tops our list. A beautiful but comfortable restaurant with creative, delicious, sustainable food. The service is always impeccable, knowledgeable and attentive – friendly and never obsequious or pretentious. Our last meal there was fantastic, from the wide array of clever amuses through to the final petit fours.

The meal was flawless (as usual) and made our special occasion (Christmas present for both of our parents) absolutely perfect. This is fine dining at its best and remains one of my favorite restaurants in LA.

Increasingly stiff. That, in my experience, is a good description of the staff. It seems as if, every time we arrive, the front desk is less happy to see us (or anyone) walk through the door, and the servers seem programmed to be haughty. The servers, at least, warm up immediately if you joke with them. The front? Like trying to get a smile from the Sphinx.

The food, of course, is marvelous, and the wines paired with it are perfectly suited. (The wine is ample enough so that, if one person orders the paired meal, the wine is sufficient for two. Unless you're a lush, I suppose.)

H-o-w-e-v-e-r, the first server (so many show up at your table that it makes it impossible to know who's in charge... if anyone) tried to strong-arm us into ordering the same menu (there are three). We refused, pointing out that if we arrived as individuals, sat at separate tables, ordered different menus, and then recognized one another and sat together, it wouldn't strain the kitchen's or the servers' abilities to feed us. We got what we wanted. So don't be bullied. It's your money and your mouth, and you should damn well be able to get what you want (and want to pay for).

Yet they do earn particular praise for keeping good records. They knew from previous visits what our dietary restrictions are and told us, when they presented each course, what had been left out. Nuts, for example. That was impressive.

By the end of the evening, with everyone sufficiently loosened up, everything was superb. Until, that is, we had to pass the front. The woman officiously thanked us for coming. The man couldn't manage a nod. He needs to work in something besides hospitality. Perhaps he'd be suited to undertaking.

Service was lacking , we opt in for the wine paring like last time we were there except this time they gave us way fewer glasses of wine so we had to go without wine for few dishes

There are reasons that this restaurant consistently tops the Los Angeles Times list of 100 best restaurants. The meal itself is exquisite. The ingredients are the freshest possible, and there is a simplicity to the flavors, despite the interesting layers of foods served together. The logic and sequence of the items is light to heavy, white wine to red. We enjoyed the Chef’s Tasting menu, the most comprehensive, and the service was impeccable and polite. The most gracious host-owner Donato made us feel welcome and downright at home. No detail is overlooked, down to the type of wine glass used and how soon each dish follows the one prior. Everytime we visit, we are wowed. It gets better and better. Favorites were the spicy cocktails and raw oysters with pear mignonette. I wish the leadership at every fine restaurant took lessons from the staff here.

Food was great, some courses more interesting than others. The interior decor and vibe was not very warm. It was kinda stuffy. Service was great. Don’t regret dining here but It’s not good enough to make me a repeat customer.

Five stars are inadequate to rate the stellar dining experience that is Providence. Hundreds of individually sculpted bites over a seven course tasting menu offer unforeseen delights in unexpected combinations, exhibiting restrained brilliance and culinary perspicacity. Every staff member was disarmingly charming and eminently knowledgeable about the preparations and sourcing of the foods and the service was seamless and flawless. A special place for special occasions.

Indescribable. It's an experience and the wait staff is the best in the business. The is amazing, top of it's class. So is the price. This isn't the place I could go often but for extremely special occasions, this is the answer. But you can not be shell shocked after dinner by the cost. You have to go in and be ready to spend an incredible about of money, not just on food, but the experience of eating. Dinner was over 3 hours and we loved every minute of it.

Been here several times. Every time the food is excellent and have never had a complaint. We've noticed though the service has gone down. For a party of 4; 2 ordered 4 course and 2 ordered 7 course with one wine pairing. First, the wine pairing missed a course. Second, the kitchen severely timed the courses wrong. To keep the 4 course meals engaging and not waiting long, the 7 course experience should have been ready as soon as the previous course concluded. Instead everyone was left waiting 10-15 minutes leaving the couple with 4 courses waiting at least 30 minutes. Furthermore, the wine pairing was served without the accompanying course. The wine was sitting there for more than 10 min without the actual 'pairing'. For almost $1000 check things like these are deal breakers in this area.

It took a long time for the waiter to approach our table, but once we got started the service was amazing except for one waiter who had a slight attitude when we asked for in depth information about the tasting menu. He was snobby about it.

Did not settle into the ambience. The lighting is too bright and it has a corporate cold feel to it.

We were impressed to see that there were hardly any repeats on the menu from previous visits besides the A5. We also think that early November is a great seafood season with the spot prawn's brief appearance and the start of truffle season. It's like the stars aligning. Timing matters with upper echelon ingredients such as this. Visuals of daikon crab dumpling were beautifully stunning. Spiny lobster and abalone dishes knocked it out of the park. Didn't care much for the vongole course, or brined fish dish, but all else killed it. Service was excellent. Disturbing trend of more people face-timing on their phones during dinner, or listening with ear buds to a pod cast the entire three hour dinner with their phone in their face, wearing sweat pants and hoodies. Unbelievable at a Michelin caliber place, but it may be explained by recent gold list release of #2 spot in LA, or new-money types. But what can places like this do to deter bad behavior? It's becoming too rampant. Saw similar behavior at Paul Bocuse in Lyon recently. A guy showed up in pajamas. They put a blazer on him and sat him in the corner.

Amazing presentation and the flavor to match. Definitely, for a special occasion and memorable experience. The tasting menu options were perfect. We opted for the Providence menu and added the Waygu beef. I can't think of anything that I would change. Would go back again and recommend hands down.

I had a terrible experience with my server Ivao who was very condescending and rude.
I was embarassed in front of my guest the way he communicated with me even going as far as explaining to me how to order from a set menu
I don’t think he is fit to serve in an upscale restaurant
Basically he ruined my evening meal and I am mad as hell .

What else can I say about LA's best seafood restaurant? This was our first time in LA and we absolutely loved this place. The service was impeccable, dining room was beautiful, and the food was perfect in every way. Yes, it's expensive, but typically you get what you pay for in life. We did not order an expensive bottle of wine, per se, yet it was still exceptional. The sixteen course Chef's Menu is not for everyone nor for us, but I do recommend splurging on the next-expensive menu which is the Signature Menu. Enjoy!

For a foodie, not what it once was, but still quite good. The last time I ate here I sat in the kitchen at the chef‘s table, and every dish I had was excellent. This time, I went with a group of eight, and sat in the main dining area. While the food is still top-notch, I feel like it has slipped a little since I was last there. Two of the dishes were not up to the level of what I assumed they would be. I still ate them and enjoyed them, but I wouldn’t describe them is excellent. The abalone was unusual, not in a good way. And, the monkfish was too salty. The goeduck was a surprise hit and the entree (duck) was phenomenal. Desserts were a little heavy I truly enjoyed The watermelon green tomato sorbet. So, overall a few star dishes with a miss or two.
