Our dinner for four was absolutely wonderful ! The dinners were beautifully prepared ; the guys had "Rack of Lamb" , and they love it. The gals had the "fish of the day" - wonderful - with four different fish each with their own sauce. "Provence " is one of our favorite restaurants in the whole area ; their food and service are outstanding !!
An absolute delight! As a transplant from Charleston, SC, I'm confident Provence could easily beat the best French restaurants down there.
Provence is the real deal. Food is delicious and beautifully prepared, and wine list is excellent. Ambiance is warm, and the manager Chris is extremely welcoming. Don't be surprised if he remembers your name and your wine preferences when you visit again. A perfect place for a relaxing neighborhood restaurant dinner or to celebrate anniversaries and birthdays.
The Moroccan lamb tajine crepe was marvelous, as was the French toast appetizer! Outstanding wine list. Good selection of desserts. The chocolate orange cake was to die for! Great service. A fantastic choice for an anniversary Sunday brunch.
Small intimate restaurant with authentic French cuisine
Varied menu
Good fish options. Fish was very fresh and perfectly cooked.
Good service. Attentive.
From start to finish we had an excellent experience. Pleasant greeting, prompt and friendly service and excellent food. The grouper chowder was terrific the fish was fresh and flavorful and desserts were delicious and artfully presented. It’s a little pricey so we use it for special occasions but can’t wait to return.
6 of us had brunch here and all enjoyed their food. Pleasant small restaurant, attentive but not intrusive service. The burgers were delicious, although the roll was a regular sized standard roll and looked a bit odd on the burger. The salad was proclaimed delicious as was the rest. Would definitely return for brunch or other.
I decided to check out this place based on some reviews I read. It was even better than expected.
For the GF followers I may have this place is a great find. French food where all the sauces and even a GF 'cracker' like bread.
So I had the salt baked fish, they debone and clean table side. interesting approach instead of placing the whole fish in front of you like they do in middle-eastern restaurants. I love both ways.
I also had the escargot, something I never find a lot on menus.
My friend who joined me that night had the cream of mushroom soup also GF.
Finished off the night with a flourless chocolate torte which was decadent and good.
Though pricey I would make this a must try 'date night' type place.
Great service, delicious meal and dessert. One of our favorite places to eat. Never disappointed.
This is my favorite French restaurant. The menu is authentic, the wine list offers good choices, and the service was exceptional. A perfect evening.
Good restaurant with fresh ingredient, good amount of food. Comfortable setting
My crepe Suzette was burned on the underside which I did not notice until I ate half of it. It tasted unusual but did not say anything because I thought it might be the sauce. That was not something I would complain about.
Finally, I turned over the crepe and saw it was burnt. When the waiter finally came, he took the plate and didn't say a word.
I know that sometime s crepe can be too thick but to burn it? Whoever made it should have started from the beginning and made a fresh one considering the price!
I have made crepes for years and never burned one once!
The cook who made it hid the burned part! He/she knew it was burned!
Celebrated a birthday and Provence was nice to give birthday girl a free dessert. A great touch!
I went to Provence with 3 friends to celebrate a birthday. We shared the escargot appetizer - it was excellent! We all had fish entrees. All the entrees were exceptional - very nice presentation, perfectly prepared fish, with excellent vegetable and rice sides. And the desserts were to die for. We shared the profiteroles and pain perdu. Overall, a wonderful evening of conversation with friends complimented by great food and wine.
We went on a quiet night after Valentine’s week and it was excellent! The canard Wellington is a must have!!
We went for a late Valentines Day dinner and were very pleased. The restaurant was very warm and friendly. The food was excellent and our service was very good. We can’t wait to go back and take our friends.
My new favorite restaurant! The menu had so many great options and the food was spectacular.
Just fabulous! Perfect Friday lunch with wine and escargot!
very fine experience..........................................................................................................................
It was the perfect place for Valentines dinner. Excellent meal and warm and friendly atmosphere.
The meal and the service were excellent
This is such a classy little place. The staff are all very friendly and courteous. I went for Valentine's Day and they were very efficient and seated everyone within a matter of minutes (even one couple who didn't have a reservation). The food we had was phenomenal. They also have a nice outdoor patio that I think would be nice to sit in on clear, cool nights!
We really like the scale and relaxed atmosphere of Provence. The menu is fresh and innovative, though this visit was for Valentine's day and the menu was more tailored. In spite of that, it was broad enough to please most anyone's taste. The lobster tails over risotto were superb. As a former New Englander I tire at the way southern chef's botch cooking lobster. However, these were real Maine lobster tails, cooked to perfection. The service was up to its usual very high standard. A selection of a white wine (from France) was good, but a bit pricey as chosen by our waiter. (We are almost always US and other country wine drinkers.) While we rarely eat dessert, the Profiteroles beckoned us and they were excellent. Over all a very nice evening.
Very good experience!!! Great date dinner!
Superb valentines dinner, excellent food and service!
The food was amazing especially for the price. However, the atmosphere is very pale, in decor and the people that attend it. The waiter must be new, because he was not very good and not very polite to guests, like a server should be.
We had high hopes driving from Raleigh after being patrons of Lil & Lori Lacassagne, previous owners of Saint Jacques, for years before they sold out and left for Gibsonville. We started with cocktails in the bar. But, there didn't seem to be anyone tending and at one point there were three behind the tiny bar, which made it a little haphazard for a Friday night, which was a bit concerning. No sommelier was there, nor a maître d', just the manager and wait staff attempting to make cocktails. The food was excellent, as was the wine we chose ourselves. The ambiance was lacking as the music was not at all effective for creating an atmosphere and the rooms acoustics left something to be desired. The whoever was excellent and will bring us back for a second look. We recommend the mussels for a first course and take advantage of the fish du jour. Parking was available off street. There's potential here if the staff can get the front of house together to make it an experience.
Provence is a true little gem in Carborro. Set in an old house, the restaurant has a lot of charm and ambience. The menu is authentic and the food was excellent. A great dining experience.
Disappointing food. When claiming to be a French restaurant, one would expect to eat accordingly.
The Team at Provence of a Carrboro is great. The food is delicious and the wine list is very extensive you are sure to find your favorite. I went for dinner and brunch the next day, I loved it very much. Make sure you stop by and give them a try. It’s worth it.
My cousin and I were very impressed by our overall experience at Provence. The wine list was extensive and our waiter was very accommodating. We enjoyed the atmosphere and delicious French cuisine! We highly recommend Provence for any occasion.
Wonderful brunch! Carrboro’s best Sunday brunch, in fact...or maybe even the entire Triangle’s! Check it out.
We like Provence for the quiet ambiance, good service, and mostly good food/wine.
Food experiences from recent visits— very good (fish four ways, lobster bisque, trout amandine, escargot, bread pudding); not as good (salad with mango because mango not ripe and cream brûlée-extremely shallow).
Provence has always been one of my favorite restaurants for special occasions. Recently my family celebrated my birthday there with a Sunday Brunch. Not the usual great experience and I have been hearing this from other locals recently. The food was mediocre and the service was really poor. Too expensive for it not to be great. I think dinner is better than brunch or lunch.
Very good service and the food was excellent. I would certainly return to this restaurant.
Unfortunately this was an off night for Provence and very disappointing to me as the hostess.
The two orders for trout Amandine were tasteless, and there was no salt and pepper in sight.
The coffee was cold, but the waiter did refill the two cups for the coffee drinkers.
The server in the kitchen put balsamic vinegar rather than chocolate sauce on the
profiteroles order and the vanilla ice cream order. To Provence's credit, we were not charged for the desserts, and they did replace them.
I was treating as a birthday celebration for one of the guests and as I mentioned, I was very disappointed. My final bill was over $200 for four people, and I felt as though we didn't get our money's worth.
I hope it was an off night. 1st course of scallop and pork belly. Scallops perfectly done but pork belly was chewy with inedible bites. Wife ordered duck confit with roasted brussel sprouts. Confit was tough and required a steak knife to cut. Sprouts were steamed and boring. My Filet de Canard Wellington was good.
We were very excited to try Provence and wanted to love it but... we were incredibly disappointed! Overall, food was mediocre and overpriced. Escargot was flavorless, risotto was too salty (although the lobster was cooked well). Service was also mediocre. Would not recommend!
What a wonderful meal we had at Provence for New Years Eve ! Both the food and service were outstanding ! Also, their bartender really knows how to make a good cocktail too ! I had the
salmon dish (beautifully prepared), and my companion had the Rack of lamb.
We shall return to this lovely restaurant !
