    One of the best meals I've had in a long time. Everything about this restaurant was impressive, from the restaurant itself, the staff, and of course the food. I highly recommend this terrific place!

    Wasn’t impressed much! Went for our 12 year anniversary dinner, I ordered the sea bass my wife ordered the salmon and we got carrots, mashed potatoes, and Brussel sprouts for the table. Also got the wedge salad. The salad was real good, as well as the brussel sprouts. ( maybe the best brussel sprouts I ever had. The carrots though looked amazing were a little under done and tough to cut through. The mashed potatoes had big chunks of still undercooked potatoes in them and we sent them back, my sea bass was the biggest disappointment of it all as I got the tail end of the filet and it was really small and pathetic looking. My wife really liked her salmon and it was a nice nice of meat. I more the likely won’t be giving this place another try

    We decided to try a new place for our anniversary dinner. A friend recommended this restaurant and we were not disappointed! While a bit noisy, we enjoyed the evening. Our waiter, Brad, was attentive, and fun to talk with! The food came out hot and fresh, and tasted fabulous! We were given a bite-sized appetizer and same in a dessert as their thanks for our coming in. We started with the warm ricotta. I ordered Skuma Bay salmon with local vegetable wild rice pilaf, and my husband had Sakura Farms pork rib eye with sweet potatoes. The crispy brussel sprouts that we shared are a must, and there were plenty for us to take home for another meal. For dessert we shared an warm apple tart with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream. Overall it was a great way to celebrate our anniversary.

    Everything about Proudfoot & Bird was wonderful. The ambiance is lovely - from the colors, to the chandeliers, and the seats and tables. The staff was very welcoming and warm, making you feel like a part of the family. The food was top notch - generous portion sizes and cooked to perfection.

    Upscale dining in beautiful elegant surroundings. Food is always wonderful but would love to see the menu changed from time to time with a few specials. Staff is always extremely nice and attentive . One of the few places in Des Moines that provides an elegant dining experience. Their bar is stocked with the best of everything.

    Gretchen made the evening great. She was perky, courteous, and very friendly. Food was excellent. Everything was on point. My guests and I all went with the sticky toffee pudding. Let's just say, we were anything but disappointed. The meal began with a complimentary amuse bouche of shrimp ceviche, which was awesome and ended with complimentary dark chocolate truffles. The only thing that was a bit off was the cocktail menu as well as the by-the-glass wine menu. Think those could be expanded a bit more. But all-in-all, highly recommend. Make sure you ask for Gretchen as a server. She's the best!

    The food was amazing and our server, Alyssa was even better. She was very attentive without being intrusive. She was well versed in menu items. She made our evening very special. I will definitely return next time I am celebrating a special event or just want a quiet romantic even with my husband.

    This is a wonderful, high end restaurant. The service is impeccable. The ambience is one of grace and charm. The menu is just enough to choose from without being overwhelming.

    It was ok. Our friends had the salmon and seabass and said it was good not great. My wife and I had the black cod. My wife did not like it at all. I thought it was just ok. The french onion soup was really good as well as the brussel sprouts. The ambiance is fantastic. Our server was polite. Again, he was ok, not great overall. I think for this type of dining the price was fair. I would give it another try and order something different. Realistically, for DSM it is on par with all the other fine dining places. The highlight of the night was the speakeasy in the hotel. Very cool with great drinks. So if you want a fun night downtown and get a bit fancy at least give it a try.

    It was a great place for a romantic dinner. We went for my wife’s birthday and had a great time. The place is elegant and reminds me the old 50s restaurants from Havana. Mármol tables and great music as background. I said the price was worth for the place and food.

    We enjoyed a delightful evening at Proudfoot and bird. We were fortunate to have a quiet alcove off of the main room with a large table for a party of six. Service by Brad was very professional, attentive, and personable. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised at the high quality of this dining experience. We will return if and when we are back in the Des Moines area.

    Celebrating my birthday with family was great fun! Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the history of the restaurant and hotel. He made several suggestions that we tried and we very happy with. We each enjoyed the delicious food and remarkable service.

    Started out disappointing with the bartenders making our drinks a different waythan the recipe calls for. This was corrected. We were a little early for our reservation and were told we would be seated when our table was ready (that’s why we were in the bar to begin with). Folks were being seated left and right so we finally had to ask to be seated, which we were. Our server was pleasant enough, unfortunately I don’t remember her name . The wine was very good, the appetizer was too spicy to eat. We opted to not exchange it. Our entrees arrived promptly … my chicken was dry and difficult to slice but the flavor was good. My husband was pleased with his pork ribeye. Had to wait a long time to be able order desert but it was much busier by now. Desert was delish. All in all I can’t say Proudfoot and Bird is someplace I would recommend. There are to many really good restaurants in Des Moines to settle for one that is just ok

    This was our first time to Proudfoot & Bird and we were pleasantly impressed. The service was impeccable, loved the ambience and the food was good too! I had the sockeye salmon which was delicious! I did feel it was a bit over dressed with too many other flavors. When serving salmon of this quality, less is better in my opinion, but I stilled enjoyed the fish. My husband had the grass fed filet and was very pleased with it. I will recommend this restaurant!

    Really cool location and fantastic staff! Appetizer and drinks were soooo good. But for the price and experience the entrees were not up to par. My food came out cold and underseasoned. Might try it again bc it has potential and the staff is great!
