Like its predecessors, located in New York City, Proper 21 serves contemporary American cuisine. The space maintains the modern aesthetic and New York style of the Manhattan locations, which have best been described as Tom Ford meets Thomas Edison. The restaurant provides the best audio & visual for sports, corporate functions, nightlife and other events.

We had a good time in Proper 21. The food exceeded our expectations and service was great. Prices were pretty reasonable. It was kind of loud due to live music but didn’t really bother us. Overall, I’d recommend Proper 21 for a nice dinner experience.
We were quickly seated and the service was fantastic! Food and wine was fabulous as well:)
Great ambiance! Truffle mac was great. The Proper Lady cocktail is a winner!
We had drinks, charcuterie and gnocchi. It was all delicious. Waiter was great!
The food was excellent and the brunch deals were worth the price!
Really fun place in DC with good drinks and American food
Great place for lunch!!!! I really enjoyed the scene!!!
Our waiter was awesome and the food was even better!!
Initially, I was impressed by my server, Marissa, a pretty, petite and young Gallaudet University graduate student who seemed friendly, knowledgeable, efficient and attentive. Before long, however, she seemed more interested in conversing with friends/colleagues and even left to go to the back bar (where there was a private function) for an extended period. When I received my food order, the fries on which I had requested the 'parmesan-truffle' seasoning option were obviously bare. But it took so long to get my server's attention that they were cold before I could ask her to remedy the situation. A few moments later, she brought me my old, cold fries, now covered in cheese and oil. But the worst part of the evening was when a trio of black-clad Antifa types (two transgenders and a lesbian, obviously fresh from the recent political demonstrations a few blocks away) decided to rotate through the Proper 21 restroom on their way home from protesting perceived social injustice. Aside from their attire, which I can only describe as appropriate for a summer street riot, their standards of personal grooming and hygiene also left much to be desired. Of course, even though the rest of the bar was empty, two of them insisted on sitting right next to me - who was, by the way, clean-shaven and recently showered, with a fresh military haircut and impeccably dressed in a dark, custom-tailored business suit and tie. Between the three of them, they ordered a single drink, paid and then left as soon as everyone had finished his/her/its potty break. Any respectable establishment with a competent bouncer would have seen them coming and stopped them at the door. Next time I'm in the neighborhood, I'll likely drop by a few doors down at Shelly's Back Room instead, where I can also enjoy a nice cigar.
In DC with the kids, 95 degrees, kids wining, saved the day! 2nd best burger I have ever had. Sangria for the wife hit the spot! Great lunch spot.
The only good thing I ate was the churro waffle for dessert. It was fantastic!! The wings tasted like they were cooked in old oil, and until I had dessert I'd pretty much written the place off. The drinks were small and watered down and my waiter was rude when I brought it to his attention. A Frose should be frozen/blended, not a Rose watered down by chunks of ice. Again, not special. Would only go back for the churro.
Office is next door and this is our go to place for quick lunch that has good flavor!
Went for Sunday Brunch and loved it! Enjoyed the seasonal raspberry mimosa and would recommend. The sliders were very tasty and great for the 2 of us! The Chicken and biscuits was delicious and we also had the home style bowl, it was ok. Loved the potatoes!
This is a perfect location for everything from a nice date, drinks with friends, to watching a sporting event. The food was incredible, and the services was above and beyond.
Excellent food and service
I actually found this restaurant on Yelp when I entered best wings in DC. It was my birthday luncheon with co-workers and everyone agreed upon looking at the menu that this was a ood choice. It didn't fail. The food and service by Michael were superb. We will be back!
This place was AMAZING. The food was really good. The service was impeccable! Brandon was our waiter, he paid attention to details, excellent service!
Great time, will come back! Good food and great service.
As a group of 7, we ate here prior to a concert at the Warner Theater. This place fit the bill - reasonable price point and willingness to make a reservation for 7. Despite the early hour (6:15pm), the place was quite crowded, and we were a bit annoyed that he 6 of us who arrived on time couldn't be seated until the last person arrived.
Altogether pleased -- Really great food, though the service was especially slow for an empty, rainy Saturday afternoon. Despite the emptiness of the restaurant, our group of 8 was seated right next to the only other group party, which was noisy. Also somewhat disappointed that the weekend lunch menu doesn't kick in until 2:30 pm. Wasn't expecting a brunch menu with a 1:30 pm reservation. Menu was also a bit pricey for what it was, though everyone at the table was highly satisfied with our meal. For a casual group gathering with nowhere in particular to be after lunch, this was a perfectly located meeting spot with great food!
Stopped here after visiting the National Mall and it was worth it. We were seated as soon as we walked in and our server was very energetic when he got to our table. The food was really good. My mom said the Buffalo wings were even better the next day. The crab dip and chips weren’t your average dip and chips! The only thing I wasn’t 100% sold on was the Peach vanilla desert (nit sure if that’s the name) other than that, everything was good!
The crab cakes were awesome! Go for the truffle fries!
Pretty decor for an awesome girls’ brunch. Food was amazing!
I reserved a table with a view and a female server. I got a table next to a wall with a male server. The appetizers were just ok. The crab dip was good, and the proper wings were breaded and i think possibly they come frozen and then deep fried. A few drinks and two appetizers came to about 111.00 I always say i am glad i came here, so i dont have to do it again.
Visited on July 4th, so I’m sure it was busier than usual with a short handed staff. We got truffle fries, which were good, a burger (good), and ribs (meh). Drinks were slowly delivered, to the point where we were out of water and alcohol at one point. I’m gonna chalk it up to a holiday, if some friends said let’s go here, I would, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to get there.
The staff there were very helpful and offered bottomless mimosas even though it wasn’t their normal brunch hours.
Went here for Sunday brunch with my husband and our 2 daughters, ages 10 and 12. We selected Proper 21 based on Yelp reviews. The menu definitely had something for everyone. I chose the chicken and waffles, which were fantastic and my daughter got the Mac & cheese that we all thought had too much garlic, but was otherwise good. We all enjoyed our meals, but the best part of the entire meal was dessert! Our server recommended the churro waffles - they were incredible, my daughter said it was the best dessert she ever had, and at 12 years old, she is a connoisseur of sweets!
Service was great. Food was fine, but it was expensive for what it was. The truffle fries are good but I got them as an upgrade to my sandwich and they weren't worth the extra money.
It was a pleasant surprise! I use to work off of 7th and G and never knew this place was right around the corner ! Food was excellent! We went during brunch hour. They have a brunch special where you can get a starter and two entrees . We ordered the district wings bourbon barbecue flavor , I ordered the stuffed French toast it was delicious and my ma ordered the ginger salmon burger ! It was spicy but not overwhelming! Breakfast potatoes were also excellent with a good amount of seasoning . Her fries were salty so she sent those back for the breakfast potatoes . The waiter switched it with no problem. Only thing I felt cheated with my featured mimosa it was very small for 9 bucks ! Other than that great experience.
Proper 21 was pretty good. It has food that is traditional brunch food, so everyone can get what they want, but with a slight twist on each so that the dishes aren't quite diner style. There was barely anyone in the restaurant, which meant we were waited on promptly, but it also meant that it was quiet and slightly awkward to be almost alone in a big restaurant. It is located in a fairly commercial area, so not many people live around there, which is likely why it was not full. I suspect it does a great work-lunch and happy hour business. Not bad, so give it a try!
I reserved a table but had to sit on a high table anyway because we checked in 5 minutes early. There were 3 empty tables but we werent allowed to sit there because we arrived early. Food was very average. There was a singer who was performing live but his music was so loud you couldn’t even hear anybody on the table. Bad experience!!!
Our waitress was distracted and poor. Not unfriendly, but not pleasant either.
The service was great and the food was very good. Our server, Mike, was very attentive without being overbearing. A very enjoyable experience.
I went to brunch with some coworkers (ranging from 26-55 years old). We were the first people there on Sunday at 11:30 AM. Although we showed up a few minutes before the restaurant was technically open, they kindly let us in and got us started on drinks. It was pouring rain outside and the server went out of his way to help us with our soaking wet rain attire.
Overall the service was wonderful! Our one complaint was that the music was way too loud when we got there. However, our server was quick to assist us in turning the tunes down as soon as we made the suggestion to lower it a bit. And most importantly, the food was delicious!! I will definitely be going again and recommending Proper 21 to friends.
Ordered chicken Cesar salad, received Cesar salad with slivers of tuna (which I hate) :(
Food was okay and service friendly. Industrial chic is ugly and uninviting, at least compared to the version in such restaurants as City Kitchen. Proper 21 is not recommended if you want to be able to hear your companions and converse without shouting. Is loud background music a necessity in a sports bar? Measured the sound at up to 90 decibels, which is definitely borderline hearing damage range.
Good food. Great drink list. Live music. Would definitely go back.
Sleek and stylish sports bar, great ambience. Lots of TV screens. Nice high tables and banquettes. Food: the burger was good, fish tacos not so much, way too bland. Service rather spotty, hard to get anyone's attention when needed.
