The service was friendly and accurate. The menu changes, keeping it fresh. The Honeybee sandwich is great. The buffalo chicken flatbread is always on the menu apparently, a huge hit and is delicious!
Our server, Michael, was perfect. Proper 21 has a great bottomless brunch deal with five different drink options. Our glasses were never empty, the food was good, and the server was excellent. I’ll definitely come back.
Everything was great with one exception...our main dishes were brought out when we had barley been able to eat our appetizers. Poor timing and an easy way to get no tip. Only thing that saved them was the server was very kind and the food was great.
Took family here to celebrate graduation and it was the perfect spot. I was able to get a reservation in relatively short notice, our table was ready as soon as we arrived and everyone was friendly. Everyone enjoyed the food tremendously - salad, burgers, flatbreads were all great. Cocktails were well made as well. It is a fun mix of nicer sports bar where you still feel like it is a nice restaurant but also can keep an eye on the game pretty much from any seat in the restaurant (a plus as the Caps were playing!) I highly recommend Proper21 and will be back. As a note it is pretty dimly lit and on the noisier side. This was perfectly fine for myself and the younger people in our party but it took some adjusting for older parents - but certainly was not obnoxiously loud or dark by any means.
Food was average, service was prompt and attentive. Noise level was unbearable (happy hour/dinner time, on a Thursday), impossible to have a conversation with the person sitting across the table from me. Dining area has tables packed together, servers kept bumping into my chair as they served the table next to me.
Good food with friendly and efficient service. Music through speaker system too loud for my taste.
The food was great, the waiter was awesome the bartender was amazing and the atmosphere was very nice and relaxed, we had a great time. Will be back!
Great service and apps, main course was good not amazing
My friends and I wanted to have lunch near the Warner Theatre before the play; the place has a great atmosphere with a trendy sort of feel. My only concern was they only offered brunch and it was well into the standard lunch time. I ordered the Crab Cakes Eggs Benedict; it was ok and nothing to brag about. The Manager visited our table several times to check on us and was very personable which made up for not being able to order an item from the lunch menu. All in all, we enjoyed our visit.
The food and service were great. The food was a good value too. Live music on the night I went.
Ahh...their truffle mac and cheese. This was my second time at Proper 21 (with a different group of people) and made everyone order the mac and cheese and truffle fries. The service is very friendly (not many people in that day and our server wouldn't stop interrupting us, hence the 4 stars. Better than being ignored though!) This time around I ordered one of their burgers and I was so happy that it was cooked to (my) perfection, which happens to be med-rare-more-on-the-rare side. My friends ordered theirs med-well and well and theirs, too, were done to order. I tried my friend's kale (I am not a big kale fan) and it was dee-licious. Looking forward to going back again and again (especially since it's within walking distance to work).
Energetic almost sports bar feel on the bar side. I didn’t go into the “restaurant area” I sat outside at a sidewalk table.
I had a Caesar with salmon. Greens were fresh and the salmon portion was substantial. Service was good. My only complaint is that the menu is quite limited, especially for someone seeking a low carb meal. I asked if the restaurant had an expanded menu and was told it did not.
Food was good. Loved guacamole and chips. Service was great.
Brunch was very worth it and bottomless drinks specials for 2hrs and not just a mimosa or Bloody Mary. Lots of food!!
We had an amazing time so glad we went. They just launched a new menu, definitely worth the trip!
Was walking by and had not seen this restaurant before. Saw the meatloaf sandwich on the menu out front and the waiter told me how great it was. It was very good. Hostess and server very friendly and helpful.
Visited Proper 21 for dinner after a visit to the National Museum of African American History and Culture. It is within walking distance of the museum which was awesome. We were able to make a quick reservation and walk right over and be seated right away.
Our server Crystal was absolutely AMAZING. She was so sweet and friendly and no request was too much for her. She was funny and very knowledgeable of the menu. Her smile just made me smile. We enjoyed all of the food and drinks that we had. I HIGHLY recommend the churro waffle with the cinnamon ice cream. It was to die for. If I didn't live 2 1/2 hours away I could see this dessert being a HUGE issue for me lol.
Nice vacation meal
The location is great and certainly the food and service was wonderful However, it was noisy. I think this place is good for large groups.
Fast, friendly service. Food is DELICIOUS. Atmosphere is great. Staff extremely welcoming, knowledgeable, and accommodating. Will go back every time we're in DC.
This place was amazing. Everything we ate was delicious....crab cakes, honey bee sandwich and perhaps the best buffalo wings we have ever had! Highly recommended.
The food and service were mediocre at best. I was disappointed because we had heard good things about this restaurant.
We ordered wings for the table and they came out cold, and the BBQ sauce tasted like ketchup. I had the "World's Greatest Sandwich." I can tell you, it did not live up to its name. It was a horribly put together fried egg sandwich with undercooked bacon. The sandwiches from my local deli are 10 times better.
One of our guests ordered an entre that was supposed to come with seasoned fries. The fries never came. When we pointed out the omission to the manager, it didn't seem to phase him. He didn't try to make up for the mistake. He simply said, "Oh, I'm sorry." No fries. No discount on her check.
The cocktails were good, but they took so long to come out. I ordered a perfect gentleman. Three ingredients: Rye, fernet branca, and bitters. I was watching the bartender and he was just simply slow.
Place was so hot. Live music great. Fries yummy. Good was good but nothing to write about....
The food was tasty, the service was fine. It was really warm in there as they had the front doors open and it was 83 out. It was a little uncomfortable in that way. We had a group of eight and ordered everything from burgers to crab cakes. Everyone reported a good meal. Happy hour lacked creativity and wasn't a big deal. Overall, I'd recommend.
Food was great, we shared some appetizers of ribs and wings and also enjoyed the main course. The noise level is definitely “energetic”. Would definitely recommend. Service was great!
I love everything about this place
Burger was well made. Cooked right. The seasoned drives were great
Had brunch and 2 hrs of hours of bottomless cocktails, gotta say they are a bit lame and food was meh...
More of a sports bar with all the TVs high point Service was good
Loud due to the guy singing and playing guitar
Hot because we were seated near the kitchen so were able to hear each other.
Service was meh. Waiter seemed nice, but my wife had to wave him over to take our dinner order because he just kept walk by our table.
Food was good overall and that’s what mattered the most to us.
I recently went here while I was vacationing in the DC area and was overall satisfied. Our server, Adam was outstanding and we couldn't have asked for anything more on the service end. We also thought it was reasonably priced considering the area and the happy hour drinks helped in that regard.
On the negatives side, while the place has a nice ambiance and lots of tv's and a trendy decor, it does get quite loud. Also, while the food was overall pretty good, the menu lacked variety of entrees as 4 of the 6 of us all got hamburgers.
Overall I'd recommend this restaurant to anybody in the area as overall it was a positive experience.
Food was excellent!
Overall everything was ok. Nothing was stellar or noticeable about the restaurant. The food was underwhelming and the drinks for happy hour were certainly watered down. There are definitely other restaurants with better food for the price in the neighborhood.
Our server was very understanding that we were caught up talking about a business deal and not paying attention to much else. I’ve been there before and the food is good but the service is better.
Great drinks and food! Great for watching the Final Four.
After leaving two other restaurants because no one gave a menu or looked our way for 30+ minutes I was so pleased to find this gem just a few minutes down the street. The crab cake burger and truffle fries were FANTASTIC.
We went for dinner here with a group of 6. Service was a bit slow and the drink menu could have had more choices but overall it was a nice place for casual dining.
Not what we expected.
We are visiting the area and didn’t know where to go. We thought the menu sounded good when we looked online so we chose it. Food was exceptional. We have crab dip, crab cakes and the burger. Our server was attentive and took great care of us. He even recommended lots of places in the area and things we could do since we had never been here. There was live music playing in another room for an event but it was enjoyable.
