    Based on our research we had no idea Proof Reader was the lobby bar in a Marriott Hotel. It was not the small independent Portland experience we were looking for. Honestly, we felt tricked.

    When I walked in the person at the desk told me I couldn’t have a reservation and he told me that open table is not “compatible”. The place was fairly empty as it was five pm. I showed him my phone with the reservation and he was unimpressed but sat me anyway. The server was lovely. The drinks were good and the food was good. I have never had someone look at a reservation on my phone for open table and tell me it’s “ not compatible “. Lol. Like in five countries.

    Great service and extensive whiskey menu! Only complaint is that, they don’t use Open Table yet Open Table offers the ability to book them.

    Did a portland dining month dinner here and it was a great value. The rainbow carrots with goat cheese was a delicious start. Then came the lamb, which was ever so tender and had so much flavor. The dessert was a cake with yummy bourbon soaked pears and cranberries in it topped with cinnamon ice cream. Very tasty, but the ice cream should have been a little softer. Also the cocktail I chose was excellent.

    Great Happy Hour menu. I didn't realize that it was essentially a hotel lobby bar/resturant. I'm very glad I made a reservation as it was pretty crowded when I arrive at 5:30 on a Thursday evening. My mom and I were seeing a show at Keller Auditorium and had dinner here beforehand. Food was delicious!
