About
Restaurant week at Proof and Pantry ROCKS. Each course is better than the one before.
The restaurant was closed for repairs. We were not notified at all that our reservation was cancelled.
Cannot review but had to rate to submit so gave middle of the road. Unfortunately Proof & Pantry was closed when we arrived for our reservation. Evidentially they were having HVAC issues. I'll try again sometime and hope they will be open.
We made reservations for four at 5:45p on a Friday. We arrived and the doors were closed, the place was dark and there was a sign that said it was closed the previous day for HVAC work. Nothing about today, though it was clear they were still closed. No calls were being answered and no notice about a closure. So we left and went across the plaza for food at a very overworked restaurant picking up slack for a two-show evening. I was very much looking forward to the meal. Alas.
Happy all around. Food was good. It was close to the Opera House where we had tickets for the author talk.
The air was out and no accommodation was made on the bill etc.
This was our first time at Proof & Pantry. We picked it since it was close to the theatre and offered a theatre menu. It's a cute place but the service was terrible. They didn't appear to be staffed enough to accommodate a theatre night. The poor waiters, host and bartender were running around trying their best, but some patrons gave up and left. We arrived at 6 for a 7:30 show and barely made it on time to the show. The place has potential if they can staff up wait staff and kitchen staff on theatre nights.
Restaurant was having an issue with their A/C ..basically it wasn't working however it just seemed to our party of 6 that they weren't doing anything to fix the problem (it was 96 degrees outside). Asparagus salad had very little asparagus and the mussels were dried up and off tasting. The bread that accompanies the mussels was stale and over oiled and no attempt to toast it. Three in our party ordered the prix fix pre theater menu that came with a special cocktail of the evening but the waiter didn't offer it until we were ready to leave? A glass of red wine ordered was HOT. Won't be returning.
The food and service were exceptional. It was just u comfortably hot.
Our party of 4 arrived on time and hungry for our 6 PM reservation for a pre-show dinner at this restaurant that’s a short walk from the Winspear and our 7:30 PM show. Shortly after 7:10 PM, an hour and 10 minutes after we were seated, 2 of our entrees finally showed up. When one of the other 2 finally showed up after 7:15, we told them to take it back because we didn’t have time to eat. We never saw the 4th entrée. It was inexcusably poor service. The restaurant knew we were attending the show and they even have a pre-show menu, so they should know the importance of timeliness. We will not return to this restaurant.
We are ATT season ticket holders and frequently go to P&P for pre-theatre dining. Most of the time we have a great experience. On this occasion, there was a staff shortage, which drastically reduced the level of service we expect. A typical salad was delivered without described ingredients. Was not until we inquired, was it disclosed that all of the ingredients were not available on that night. Too late to send back the salad, we also had to ask to have the cost removed from our bill. Growing tired of the limited menu. Definitely do not sit in the area behind the main dining room. Both times we have dined there, we have found service is really poor.
Creative food. A bit too unusual for me. The veggies with my fish were unusual. Fish was delish.
A must if you are in Dallas. Exec Chef Nick H has an amazing menu and the staff know how to make the dinning experience a great night out. Will definitely visit again ASAP
Took 50 minutes to get our food. We got there 1.5 hours before a show at the Winspear, and we couldn't enjoy our meal because of how slow the service was and we almost missed our show. Completely unacceptable.
We were on our way to a performance at the Winspear Opera House. We were running late --- that evening and desperately needed a restaurant that was close by. For previous performances I always book our favorite restaurants for dinner before the performance. But this time, I had other things distracting me and I had stupidly forgotten to make reservations (!) for dinner. Soooo---at the last minute---I checked all the usual restaurants near the venue. I called and called, only to be repeatedly told that they were each fully booked. I was about to give up, but stumbled across a restaurant I was unfamiliar with called Proof & Pantry. It was wonderful! Fortunately, it was within easy walking distance to the Winspear. The ambiance was fun---the waiter was charming--and the food was great!
This is our third time here and the first time was great, the second time was good and the last time was just okay. We got there at 6 and it wasnt really full yet but our food took awhile. When we received our meals the lingunini bolgnese was cold and the quail was awesome but the grits were bland and paste like. We told the waiter about pasta being cold and he comped the meal. That was nice but not at all our intentions. Lastly it was really hot in there. We know it was humid outside but you shouldnt have to fan ourselves to stay cool inside. The pasta was colder than the temperature inside the restaurant. The drinks we ordered were delicious and we did like the twist on the cesar salad. We might be back but we wont be rushing.
Too many gnats flying around the restaurant. Very distracting and makes one wonder about the cleanliness of the kitchen.
We loved this place. The food was great with a very relaxed atmosphere. We went for brunch and would definitely go again.
Quaint atmosphere, nice breeze blowing thru restaurant. Lasagna was excellent
It appears their menu changes every day, so we were a bit disappointed the selection had changed from that on Open Table. The Halibut was lovely and delicately prepared en papilotte. Pasta with meat sauce was declared "delicious" by my companion. Pork pasta was also a delight. Drinks took an inordinate amount if time to arrive, but when we expressed our concern about making a 7:30 performance at The Winspear, our entrees arrived tout de suite. A perfectly lovely dinner served with time to spare. Kudos also to the valet, who helped out when the "froggy" transport that usually takes us to the Winspear did not arrive that evening. Valet got out the One Arts Plaza private cart and delivered us with time to spare.
Came here for Mother"s Day brunch and it wasnt crowded and the food was great!!!
After a fun lunch we came back for happy hour on the plaza and the energy was great.
Delicious food with great service. We dined here before attending a performance from the Dallas Theater Center, and would definitely make this a regular pre-show routine!
Cute, cozy place, good location. I had the stuffed french toast. On this day, it was stuffed with marshmallows, peanut butter and bananas, pretty indulgent. My husband had burger and fries, which he enjoyed. Good food, would recommend...
The food was good in all three cases - large pork chop, fettuccine bolognese, and fish - but their AC was clearly on the fritz with a packed crowd in a small facility! Hope they can get that fixed before summer gets here...
Great ambiance and amazing food.
We were going to the DSO and had been eating inside the Meyerson and wanted to try something local. My wife spotted this in her search and it was close to the symphony. Somewhat limited menu, but everything was excellent. Great presentation. Awesome Caesar Salad. The plate with the specialty sliced meats was delicious. Very attentive staff, several came to the table to ask how everything was. While we rarely drink, we noticed they have a wide variety of beers and wines for every taste. They also offer valet parking right at the front door. They also have outdoor seating with a good view of the local symphony district.
We highly recommend you try them out.
The Caesar Salad and Pork Milanese were excellent.
This place has a lot of potential, but falls well short of the mark given the prices. Service was poor from the start. Our table was set for incorrect number of people when we arrived, and service was very slow throughout our meal. The food could have been great, as the menu has a nice selection of brunch items. However, each persons meal tended to come out over-cooked, and lacked a proper amount of sauce (where sauce was needed). We would have left very satisfied for half the price, but at this price point, we will likely not go back.
The theater menu was perfect for us
always a wonderful dining experience whether pre-theater or otherwise
The food was outstanding! Delicious to say the least! Met a client there for lunch and was not sure what to expect as it was our first time eating there. The ambiance was great and really ideal to meet a client because it was nice and quiet and could definitely hold a nice conversation.
You will not be disappointed.
The food was very high quality, but prepared incorrectly. The steak was ordered medium and served rare, and the handmade pasta was served missing the black truffle. We would have loved to talked to the server about making changes, but it was as if she had disappeared into thin air after taking our order.
The restaurant did get busier over the course of our meal, and it looked like they only had one new server to cover the entire restaurant on a Saturday night. Perhaps this place is much more on point during lunch.
The bartender was great, but the rest of the staff seemed preoccupied. Our server kept forgetting to bring items we requested (our drink order, extra plates, etc). The hostess seated us at a table with no light (seriously we had to use our phone flashlights to see the food). We were told the lights had been out for several weeks and could see the non-functioning lights pointed at our table. The food was good but inaccurately described on the menu. I ordered the beef bourguignon but it was really a pot roast with little indication any wine reduction was involved. We went to the restaurant based on a rating as one of the best in town. I can't say I agreed.
The waiter was struggling to stay on top of our party of 9. The bar did not get out a second drink order for quite a while and one of our food items was very cold. Otherwise, the food was very good and the atmosphere also quite vibrant.
Excellent restaurant for all the "foodies" out there. Very unique and tasty.
Food was absolutely HORRIBLE!! One plate was left almost untouched because it was so bad. Old fried chicken. Old stale biscuit. zero flavor.
Service was okay-- Our waiter did not ask about the food, and didn't seem to notice the plates full of food because it was inedible.
the entire staff was very courteous and the food was excellent. the place has great ambiance for a group or a quiet date. it's a great spot perfectly close to the att pac!
Food is always great but service isn't that attentive. Still a very enjoyable pre theater dinner.
Delicious salad , the lamb is great, and scallops were perfect. Nice cozy environment. great place for pre: theatre or opera, or anytime. Sophisticated yet relaxed. Just all around a great find.
