Promised Land Inn
Rustic, Cabin feel environment and Menu serving Elk, Bison, Piedmontese Beef, Wild Boar, Rainbow Trout and assorted seafood
This was our first visit. We live in the area and were excited to try something different from Boathouse, Settlers, Glass and Raven and Robyn. The new owner has made a lot of very nice changes. We were seated outside and anxious to see if our wait person would be masked and covid conscientious. She was masked but came to our table to greet us holding, with fingers in the glasses, dirty glasses she had just cleared from the table next to ours. I was freaked out about it and asked if she was our server. She said, Yep! Ugh. Drinks are good and $6-8. Menu was solid. I had beet salad. Really great. Steak, very good but not great. Smashed potatoes amazing. Roasted zucchini fresh and tasty. I heard their BLT is the best in the state. I’ll try that next time. Summary...fun spot, rustic place, great food, trained chef, friendly hardworking owner, poorly trained wait staff, slow service.
food was hot and fresh, service was great, all around great experience
Thank you for such an excellent review!
It was nice to eat outside again. Ashley was great server. Trout was delicious.
Thank you for such an excellent review!
Food and service was very good.
Thank you for such an excellent review!
The food was great. The atmosphere was nice but the service was on the very slow side. We didn’t mind to much but we did have two year old with us, who was getting very tired.
Birthday celebration for my husband.
Spectacular food! I often order food that sounds delicious but has no flavor, but this was not one of those instances. Every dish I ordered was filled with flavor and absolutely delicious.
They were very short- handed on the wait staff. We were warned that there likely would be a wait getting our order etc.
We did not think the wait was much longer than average in any restaurant I’ve been to. The manager stepped up and helped and the new trainee ( who has many years experience) was a great help as well
Food was delicious, service great. Nice family vibe here!
I will give them another chance. There was one server for the entire restaurant. Service was very slow but it was understandable. Our drinks came 20 mins after we ordered them, I think that could have been handled better.
Food was great and service was great! I loved the decor.
Labor Day weekend service was very very slow. Unfortunately our server did not communicate that, so we were left waiting for our food for over an hour after being seated. When it arrived the food was very tasty and attractively served. Restaurant was very attractive and clean, but noisier than I prefer.
Everyone enjoyed their meal. Very tasty and satisfying. Waitress made a special effort to please us. She surprised us with extra waffle fries when my husband's fries got wet from the Cornish hens sauce. Definitely will return and recommend PLI to others.
Service is great, staff is very friendly and food is good. Been there at least four times and always leave full. Thank you.
I would happily recommend this establishment but first they need to significantly improve their service. Our server was more interested in flirting with a male patron then in providing service. We were left stranded for our food and bill. There were three servers at the bar. The female mixing drinks was fine not great. I announced it was our anniversary and crickets. Oh well customer sevice should be a priority.
Good food. Prices are good. Our server was great. Will do it again
This restaurant would be okay for lunch, however, for us it was not a dining restaurant. More of a pub type fare, mostly, for campers and locals. The restaurant is very clean and service was exceptional. The chef had no problem preparing the trout differently than offered. My salmon was dry and over-cooked, and their wine list is very limited.
We sat so close to other seats couldn’t move chair. Waitress was rude and not welcoming she seemed annoyed with request to speak louder so we could hear the specials and my mixed drink was so strong i had to ask to have it diluted so I could drink it. We put order in and and appetizer of clams that was brought out same time as main course arrived. Clams were full of dark grit sand. Flatbread was so salty it was too hard to eat it. No water refills and we waited over 45 minutes for our food. The noise was so bad we could not hear each other speak. We will probably not go back.
Toilets in men’s and women’s restrooms were backed up and full of excrement. The restaurant was not even busy. Disgusting mess 30 feet from our table.
Tasty food from high qulaity ingredients. Smallish menu
Nice stop on our road trip. Looks like it has just been redone. Not too crowed. Wish there were more bathroom. Only 1 female stall.
Unexpectedly great meal. Food was excellent - we had the strip steak and the elk meatloaf both were very tasty. Chicken soup was fantastic. Veggie sides were done to perfection. Mashies were cool but very tasty. Weak wine list but our choice was very good.
We’ll be back!!
I made a reservation here for dinner on 7/6/19. Upon arrival the noise level/music was really load. I asked the hostess for us to sit in a location where it was not so loud (I can't hear with a lot of background noise). The hostess rolled her eyes (yes I saw that) and then pointed to the seating area and said pick a place. Obviously she should not work in a place where customer service skills are needed. I had reviewed the menu before we got there and it seemed a little costly for the location we were in (small town) but offered some different choices for the adventurous. I felt it was pricy for the atmosphere, feeling like I was in a bar with a dining area. Don't get me wrong, the place looks really nice, with some high end finishes but nothing to absorb the sound. It didn't help there was a drunk woman talking on the top of her lungs - not the places fault. We ended up ordering off the "sandwich/burger" section. The burger was very good, and curly fries delicious. My French Dip was good but average for the price of $15 just for the sandwich and a pickle. Our waitress (Amy) was very nice and accommodating. Not a bad place besides being a little pricey but hope that they can survive, especially with a hostess (another waitress) with an attitude. There was a band outside in the outdoor bar area. Suggestion, put a better barrio so customers don't look into bathrooms while dining. Probably wont' be back.
Food not as good as previous visit, ribs were half the size
Very pleasantly surprised to find the refurbished Promised Land Inn. Attentive staff, fun and tasty menu, great presentation and reasonable prices. Plus open later than most places near here.
Food is great. You get a lot for the money. Servers are very friendly and efficient.
We visited on Memorial Day weekend and our waitress was new and clearly overwhelmed by the amount of people she had, so our service review is not reflective solely of our waitress's performance. More so, it is a reflection on the house manager, who made a fair attempt at visiting tables to see how there experience was going. From what we saw, he did not offer to help much. Food was typical tavern/bar offerings, but good. We'd go back and try it again. Parking can be difficult if it's crowded.
Food was very good. Ambience was nice. Would be nice to have more beers on tap. Waitresses were very friendly and accommodating. Bar maid seemed to have an attitude or not interested in the customers she was supposed to be helping. A smile and hello is all it takes. We wish promised land inn all the best. Would love to visit again when in the area.
Everything was wonderful but it is a little tight. Waitresses could barely get around the tables. Decor is cute and homey. We had a very nice time.
A much needed oasis in the woods! The remodel looks great! The dining room has a warm and inviting feel, with a fire place. They are building an outside bar! I have gone for lunch and dinner. The food is delicious and the staff is friendly and attentive. The Baked Mac n Cheese and the Elk Meatloaf were awesome! Great for couples and families.
First time dining here. The owner was great and came by a few times to see how things were. He was very attentive. Both service and food were good. Ambiance/decor was typical for the Poconos. If going on a weekend, it’s best to go early or make reservations as it gets crowded, especially during “the season “.
Making a reservation on line was very easy. Our waitress, Nicole, was excellent! The food was wonderful. All 9 of us were very satisfied with our meals and we will be back again.
Everyone was happy with their food. Meatloaf and fried pickles where tasty. Flatbreads and sandwiches were great. Soups were yummy.
Food was good and reasonabley priced. Are waiteress was constantly letting one table of guests and there special requests distract her
If I could give this place zero stars I would. Stay away! We went there on Saturday night March 9 party of 5. The service was bad - slow and not attentive to refilling our drinks or clearing the table. Seating is cramped and hard to walk to you table around all the other tables (it is a joke on how many table they have in there). Very loud and you have to shout to talk to anyone at your table. Also no place to park (very small parking lot and unfinished and muddy). They seemed very understaffed and stressed out (everyone running around and making mistakes). I asked for a med-rare steak, but received a well done steak. They gave us the wrong deserts (someone else order). It took about 15 mins for them to come back with the correct deserts. When we received the bill they charged us for both the wrong deserts and the correct deserts. For over 20 mins they tried to correct the bill, but the manager did not know what he was doing. He assured me I would not be charged for the wrong deserts. As it turns out they charged my credit card for all of the deserts after all. So I paid for our deserts and the deserts of another table. At this point not worth the trouble to get back the extra 20$ they charged me for the wrong deserts. We gave the waitress a good time (felt sorry for her).
Trying out the new spot in the area. Beer tastes great on tap, coriander coleslaw was delicious!
Thank You for the recommendation! Some of our servers are new and are still getting used to our menu so our apologies. FYI- Burgers are always available for Lunch and available on bar side. Dining room is reserved for entrees however we can always accommodate a request for burger from the "Tavern menu". Thank You for your business!
The hostess tried to seat us at a long table with other people who clearly looked frustrated with the idea. We asked for our own table since we had a reservation.
Music is so loud you cannot hear yourself . Tables are so tightly packed it is not comfortable.
The service was non existent so we left after sitting at our table for 22 mins .
Upon getting up a server asked us what our problem was since we were only there “3mins”.
They have a lot of refinements needed as the whole front of the house seems to lack management.
Parking was tough, lot has ample parking but it’s not organized at all. The staff seemed overwhelmed at times, we were served by a bartender that was super busy but pleasant and as attentive as possible!
The music was loud, too loud for having a conversation.
Food was good and reasonably priced!
I heard they just reopened the place, they are on the right track! Hope they get the kinks worked out so they do well. There is not a lot of choice in terms of good food and ambiance; most places are mediocre at best. Would love to have a spot to frequent every time we are up!
Thank You for the review! We our paving parking lot in April which will include striping for parking stalls and handicap in addition to complete outside bar with patio/fire pit. We are also expanding parking area. Yes the music was excessively loud that night and it was addressed in staff meeting. Thank You for the business and hope to see you back in future!
I had the drink special, pink Martini and the entrée special, duck. They were both great. My husband had the elk meatloaf, which he said was the most tastiest meatloaf he had ever had, and I make a good meatloaf. The service was superb, friendly and efficient.
Great find in the Poconos, which isn't known for great food. But, this place is OUTSTANDING!! Great food and friendly people.
Great new place. Nicely renovated. Beautiful fireplace. Lunch and dinner menus have a good mix of game, comfort and nicer items. The band they had Saturday was great! A must try.
