The food is pretty good but the cocktails are amazing. Awesome live music and fantastic service.
Not really a place you’d go for dinner. Meals are pricey and small portioned. Limited food choices. It’s more of a bar than a restaurant. Additionally, smoking is allowed outside on the patio, which is also where nonsmokers are seated for dinner.
There are too many great restaurants around to ever have to waste your time eating here. We attended the “Bluegrass brunch”. I put that in quotes because the musicians did not play bluegrass music, and that was the main reason I chose to bring my grandparents here on their visit. We were incredibly disappointed. The eggs Benedict and chicken and biscuits were all soggy with sauce that was not satisfying, and overall lacking flavor. And nothing came with a side and the portions were very small for the price. The service and atmosphere were great. As a local, I may come back for a drink, but I will never, ever eat here again.
My chicken entree was amazing. The outside patio area for dining was ideal and the bar was easily accessible. Later on in the evening the girls had a great time on the dance floor. Drinks were also great!
Great service. Interesting Jazz music. Quality food.
Everything was delicious and timely - thank you for the experience! The steak was perfect.
First visit will not be the last! The ambiance was fun and the food wonderful! Our waiter, Shane, explained the foods and prep with great detail. We have already recommended Prohibition to a number of friends!
Went here for Sunday brunch with some friends. Service was decently attentive and most of the food looked good, unfortunately my food arrived cold and the fried eggs were burnt and completely solid. The live band was good though.
We started our visit with a few of Prohibition’s highly touted drinks. They did not disappoint! The Cucumber Gimlet and the Warthog with the flambéed rosemary were amazing! The old fashion was a little to strong for our palates. We tried the Burratta and the Ricotta Gnocchi. Both plates were delicious! Jazz/Swing music was playing throughout our Saturday night visit. We couldn’t have asked for a better evening in a unique and masculine atmosphere.
Prohibition was recommended to us visiting Charleston for the first time. It exceeded our expectations with outstanding food and cocktails. The roasted brusselspeouts and bourbon drizzled donuts for dessert were our absolute favorite. We would go back in a heartbeat! It’s located in a great area to walk around.
Great service, had table ready when we arrived early and made sure our other party of 4 were able next to us and in fact moved the tables together. We were able to enjoy the live music right near us. Everyone’s meals were fabulous.
Great drink selection, amazing main courses, friendly service.
Bat top chairs were very uncomfortable and place was a bit to dark. Food tempaturr not hot.
Awful charcuterie and even worse cocktails
We were celebrating our elopement with a special dinner and we chose the 5 course chef choice. It got us out of our comfort zone and it was delicious!
The ambiance and service were great! The variety and selection of spirits was noteworthy. The Scallop appetizer was amazing! However, the gnocchi as an entree and the spinach salad were just ok. I would definitely go again for drinks and appetizers.
Our experience was fantastic!! We will definitely be back. The food was amazing and the cocktails were awesome!!! The service was superb. Loved everything about it. They have swing dancing lessons on Sunday night 7-9 then the band starts. Super fun place.
Had eggs benedict..ok...warm but not hot..had to ask for coffee refills..
Amazing dinner and service from Jeffrey!
My fiance and I were visiting from Brooklyn, NY on vacation and we went here to celebrate our anniversary and recent engagement. The food was AMAZING (especially the brussels sprouts and shrimp & grits) and our waiter was great, very attentive but not in an annoying way. We had a 6:00 reservation on a Friday night so it did get a bit noisy as we were finishing up our meal but that was to be expected. They also had a lovely group of older gentleman playing music on the stage - the vibe of that was great, but my only complaint would be it was a bit loud since we were sitting right in front of the stage. Other than that, when we are back in Charleston we will definitely be back to Prohibition!
This a lively place with outstanding cocktails, beer, and whiskey menus. I sent a photo of the menu of Scotch to my sister, who lived in Scotland several years and is an aficionado of scotch whiskey- she was impressed! Fortunately the food is up to the drinks. I ordered the Tandoori Cauliflower appetizer and NY strip steak. The cauliflower “steak” was tender but not mushy, and the Tandoori crust was flavorful and crispy. A touch of yogurt & golden raisins added tartness & sweetness. The strip steak was lean and tender, with a savory bone marrow crust. It was on a bed of puréed veggie with a side of horseradish creamed spinach. The spinach was the only less successful part - too much cream and not enough spinach, so it was kind of gloppy, if that’s a word. Service was friendly and helpful - I got expert help on my questions about menu items and wine. I waited almost an hour for my appetizer, and although I was busy people-watching and did not complain, the waitress and manager both apologized, and comped my glass-and-a-half of wine, to my surprise.
I was there on my own, a silver-haired lady remembering her late husband on our anniversary. I did not mention that - it was a private thing - but it was a pleasure to be treated kindly and respectfully. Thank you for a memorable evening.
We ate here for my 40th Birthday and I’m so glad we chose it! The food was off the hook amazing. We had the Charcuterie, Deviled Eggs, Brussel Sprouts, Scallops with Angel Hair Pasta & Burgers. Was so good. I honestly don’t remember what we had for dessert. We were a few drinks in by then and the salsa music started! Jeff was our server and he was awesome. Don’t miss Probibition. Can’t wait to get back and try it for brunch next time!
Great food and drinks! I highly recommend the scallops and jalapeño infused margarita. The raw oysters were delicious also! Our server was great and even helped create a drink just for my husband who wanted something spicier than the margarita (though it was plenty spicy enough for me). The live jazz music was a fun touch. Overall, my husband and I had a great date night at Prohibition.
I love the band but it is hard to get hubby to keep going back with the limited menu! The food is competitive in Charleston! Its always the same preparation with a different fish...always with muscles! Maybe a little more creativity might get those foodie types in the door? There are probably not that many like me that just come for the music!
The food and the drinks were amazing!! It was a tad loud, but really, what Charleston hot spot isn’t?! We will be back
Excellent cocktails. Food was good, but way overpriced (like so much of Charleston): 2 drinks, hamburger, dessert: $65
We stayed 4 days in Charleston I had the avocado benedict with tomatoes my husband had traditional eggs benedict but the ham was shaved he was efficient & fun & topped off our experience.
Best meal we had in Charleston!
The only reason that we reported that the noise level was high was because we were seated right in front of the jazz band. We could have changed that if we wanted.
Seriously amazing food!!! Don’t get a table near the band- it’s too loud. They cleared off the tables and set it up for dancing after. We shared the Brussels sprouts- I could have liked the plate clean. We ordered the filet- large cut and perfectly prepared. Crispy flavored topping and really great celery mash that mimicked potatoes. So tasty!! I’ve been to a few restaurants here, the flavors are superb!
Servers were very knowledgeable about gluten free; friendly and wonderful recommendations. Enjoyable dinner out!
We always enjoys stopping at Prohibition for cocktails when we visit Charleston, but this was our first dining experience. The food was great, very tasty and innovative. We had a sampling of small plates and were impressed by the tandori cauliflower, crispy Brussels sprouts and house-made charcuterie. We would like to come back some weekend to try the chef's tasting dinner. The service was very accommodating. We were not aware this was "Salsa Night" and several larger tables were sidelined to make way for the band but the staff moved one out so we could be comfortably seated. We did finish well before the band got there but decided to move to the bar and stay for the music and dancing which made for a memorable night!
Great food! Cool atmosphere! Loved the live music!
One note was that our server did not remember my husband’s 2nd and 3rd cocktail order where he requested Woodford Reserve instead of the Woodford Masters that he ordered for his first cocktail. When we saw it on the bill she said she was sorry, but she had poured Masters. It is a $10 difference per drink and tastes different too. The 2nd cocktail was definitely not the Masters, possibly not even Woodford. The 3rd may been a Masters pour. We felt she should have changed the bill, because she clearly agreed with his requests with each drink. Just a note for future misunderstandings with customers.
Very loud near stage. Recommend backing up tables that sit close to stage. Other than that, we had a great experience
Loved the music and the food. Delicious.
VERY loud and VERY trendy, high prices. The food is good, but there are NO changing tables in ANY bathroom. The waiter was good, but the kitchen is SLOW!!!
We had a fun dinner at Prohibition. We sat at a hightop in the front section of the restaurant, which was lively and had a low key jazz band that started at 7pm. Scallop appetizer was so good we ordered another immediately after finishing the first one. My main, a bouillabase with lobster was fine, but could have been a bit richer, with more seafood. Hubbys burger was excellent. Our waiter was wonderful, gave great suggestions and was personable, with just the right amount of attentiveness. Great cocktails! Would definitely recommend. Note though that there are 3 sections to the restaurant, which all have different atmospheres. The front section is the most fun, the back section in the patio is more low key.
Great food service and music, would recommend to anyone visiting or living in Charleston
Drinks and charcuterie were absolutely lovely. Food was good quality but missing something. I had the mushroom gnocchi and it needed a little more...perhaps a lightly creamy sauce or a little more bold. Kind of tasteless and there were not salt or pepper shakers on the table.
