Chef Amber's take on our Ceasar salads was avante garden, fun and tasty. My gnocchi and wife's roast cauliflower were well prepared and delicious. Portions were generous. Don't miss the semi-fredo for dessert. Locally sourced ingredients and creative cooking. Service was also outstanding. Highly recommended.
It just looked outdated and no one was there. Just us and one more table with 2people in it
This was a lovely find through open table. The chef is a charming young lady who is new to the Princess Ann. The Octopus to start was wonderful and the Pear wrapped in Prosciutto with the Feta Mousse was amazing. The service was extremely friendly and we felt very welcomed. As this restaurant has not being discovered yet, the ambiance was a little quiet. But we are going to return for the Chop Shop dinner in June.

I think that the Princess Anne is a secret jewel yet to be discovered by Ashevillians and other locals. I don't think that the hotel administration realizes what a treasure that they possess. Also, I believe that with just a very little tweaking it could truly transport dining guests to yesteryear. And, afterall, isn't that what we are all looking for...................the time machine that gives back years to be savored.
We enjoyed our evening at the Princess Anne because of the great food, comfortable surroundings, and attentive service. The menu had something for everyone. The dishes were innovative and familiar at the same time. Don’t let it’s obscene location put you off. There is street parking and a lot around the back. We intend to make it one of our regular dinner spots. The wine list is very interesting and not overpriced. Service was friendly but not intrusive, very professional.
It’s a shame that even with such good food, the service here can still totally destroy a dining experience. Given all the good dining options on OpenTable for Asheville (and noting how expensive this restaurant is) I’d recommend just save yourself some aggravation and dine somewhere else. In our case, the problems started with smaller salad and drink issues... then the real killer was when the final entree didn’t arrive until after everyone else was basically already done eating. *sigh*. At those prices it’s reasonable to expect a lot more.
This is a small restaurant too, so if there’s over 15 customers the noise level is pretty much unbearable... we had a large table of 15 seated in the middle of the room (poor choice, mgmt) and as a result I couldn’t comfortably talk to my dinner companions.
Also, the signature dish wasn’t available since the large table had ordered all the available quantity for the night. I guess those in-the-know make early reservations? Beware making late reservations? We were seated at 6pm on a Fri... I’d expect that’s prime time when you’d want food available... so be wary.
Save yourself a hassle and go elsewhere.
The way you cursed at me, I expected this to be harsher. I mentioned the server was on her first day. She brought the wrong salad, we promptly corrected & both were enjoyed. You ordered a shot of fireball, we do not stock it. The server forgot an entrée, the chef quickly made it. I apologized & your guest said it was no problem & everything was great. I am confused by the different responses. We are small, which is why the large party was close. I am happy to hear you enjoyed the food. Sam GM
Honestly, only liked one of the wine that was brought out. Food was.. OK. It wasn’t spectacular, but it wasn’t bad either. Service was really good and efficient.
We are big fans of the Princess Anne, but this visit was very disappointing. The Brussel Sprout Cesare needed more acidity, but otherwise was tasty. The Grilled Artichoke salad was tasty, but overdressed. Ricotta gnocchi were way overcooked (sautéed) and dry. The accompanying Shitake mushrooms were chewy and dry as well. My Ravioli with Peking Duck and Bok Choi was served lukewarm, with overcooked duck, soggy skin and cold ravioli. Mushroom Mezzaluna was served swimming in a tasteless broth, had broken apart with the tasteless ricotta filling all over the dish and overly chewy Shitake mushrooms. This dish was taken off the bill and we received a pleasant (but hard as a rock) ice cream dessert.
Overall a most disappointing and surprising experience considering the excellent meals we've had here before. What happened Chef?
Took a very long time to get our food. However, my steak was outstanding.
The food was very good but the overall experience was lacking. The lighting is too bright (which I admit I dislike intensely)—small lamps on the tables would improve this greatly. Service was personable but there was only one server for the restaurant— granted there aren’t that many tables but a dinner that should have taken 70 minutes tops came in at 90 minutes for only two courses.
First time visiting, but it won’t be the last. We went with friends for brunch and were VERY pleasantly surprised. figured the service would be good—but it was great, and the food was fabulous. Can’t wait to try dinner!
Enjoyed outstanding dinner meal at restaurant about 2 weeks ago. Was so impressed, decided to visit for Sunday brunch. Meal was just average. Eggs Benedict with shrimp should not have been served. No shrimp, just a patty of ground shrimp with base that was rubbery. Two in party ordered mushroom omelette and it was overcooked. Plan to try dinner again but will hesitate to try brunch.
One of the best meals we've had in quite awhile. We went with another couple and were blown away by how good our meals were. It's just been open a couple of months for dinner, and Chef Todd is a true gem. My grilled artichoke with fried anchovies on greens with a lovely salad dressing was delicious. Then I had a fabulous duck breast over wild rice with a cherry gastrique. Yum! Others had a wild mushroom salad, alligator boudin, boar ribs, and venison meatloaf. We shared a chestnut pie and a dark chocolate pie. Everything was creative and delicious. We'll definitely go back again...
Wonderful historic hotel. The restaurant is cozy & beautiful. The food was delicious & the service superb. We will definitely return here for dinner & other special occasions. Highly recommend.
Chef Todd is quite creative with with non-traditional (e.g., game meats), fresh and local ingredients. Many local restaurants can also make this claim; however, the classy ambiance of the freshly remodeled boutique hotel and the ease of getting a prime-time reservation makes this place stand out as a new favorite. Enjoy it now before word gets out!
The menu is tight but everything we ordered was a crowd pleaser (each came with side plates for the predictable sharing experience.) Stand-outs for our visit were the alligator boudin appetizer, the fried green tomatoes, and the seafood pastalaya.
The wine list, however, is too limited in my opinion with a single young yet inexpensive choice for each grape. And the $25 corkage fee seems almost punitive for an alternative to such a weak wine list. Never fear, the $3 PBR paired well throughout.
This was a return visit for us, and we brought another couple who enjoyed the evening as much as we did. This is a hidden gem, with a creative menu, and wonderful staff. Try the duck if it is still on the menu. It was unbelievable!
Overall our experience at PAH was only fine. The dining room is very nicely appointed but small. Although not crowded, our server seemed a little overwhelmed. Menus were given as well as the wine, drink and beer list. I must say that we were disappointed with this list. Grocery store wine of limited selection, beer was almost nonexistent (in beer city) and not a list of drinks but a list of distilled alcohol. I asked for a manhattan and they had no sweet vermouth so that choice was out. We settled on bottle of wine.
One of our party has dietary issues that I had listed on the OT reservation. When we were ready to order food this was a surprise to the server and so she asked the chef to come out and review the menu items that would be ok to eat. Duck was settled on and the pot pie. The food was good and we enjoyed it. We chose not to have desert.
Our impression upon leaving was that the staff was overwhelmed with just a few parties dining, the drink selection did not match the quality of the food selections and that is surprising given the atmosphere the hotel is trying to project.
Our first time at the Princess Anne Hotel restaurant definitely won't be our last! From drinks (picture attached) through dessert, we had a very special evening. Cori, our server, was a wonderful blend of professional and friendly, and was willing to guide us as much or little as we wanted. We had cauliflower wings and apples in prosciutto for starters, and then moved on to a fresh scallop lasagna and heavenly chicken pot pie, topped off with a chocolate torte with dark cherries. Everything was delicious with wonderful presentation. The background music was also soothing and did overwhelm conversation. Towards the end of the evening, we also got to talk to Mary, another great staff member working in the dining area. Both Cori and Mary made us feel very at home.
If you are hankering for something new in Asheville, both comfortable but combined with a great food experience, you won't be disappointed in trying this gem on East Chestnut Street!
My wife and I decided to try a new restaurant and what pleasant surprise. Great food, lovely restaurant, attentive service. We will be going back again.
As locals, this was our first time here. Lovely place. Unique experience, with very good food and service. The Artichoke Salad and Seafood dish were excellent. It was a particularly nice touch, when the Chef came out to meet and chat with us. Definitely put this restaurant on your list of quiet eateries, in a serene setting. And maybe you should stay in this historical 16 room inn next time.
Brunch was excellent. Had scallops Benedict. Scallops were perfectly cooked. All parts of the meal were prepared as well as possible. Coffee was strong and very tasty. Prices were very reasonable and less tophan expected for such high quality.
Everything was delicious, and the menu was compact but offered a nice variety for vegetarian and not-vegetarian diners as well.
Our service was very attentive and thoughtful. Everything came out in good time and prepared beautifully. I especially liked the Brussels sprouts Caesar and the Fried Artichoke salad, and the Fried green tomatoes were spot on.
My husband and I were in Asheville for our 10th wedding anniversary. We didn't think to make reservations ahead for dinner and most places were booked. We stumbled upon the Princess Ann Hotel. The atmosphere was pretty simple and not crowded. We weren't sure what to expect with the food. We were blown away with everything we ate! It was delicious and flavorful. We had the warm prosciutto wrapped peaches and split a chicken pot pie. It was perfect for a chilly fall night. It wonderfully combined elegant and comfort food. Give this place a try!
I needed to find an early dinner with very little time, and I found the Princess Anne Hotel. From the moment I arrived on the front step, I was warmly and professionally welcomed. The dinner choices were unusual and intriguing. I was delighted with the quality and presentation of both the dishes that my companion and I ordered. After dinner I ended up chatting with some of the guests at the hotel in front of the fireplace in their living room. A delightful way to end a fine meal.
Food was great from drinks to appetizers to entrees to desserts. Recommend for anyone wanting a great food experience rather than the same old same old.
A little off the beaten path, but well worth it! I realize the menu may have changed since our visit, but we started with the prosciutto wrapped peaches - they were delicious and I am not a huge fan of prosciutto! Meatloaf isn't on the rotation at home, so I tried the venison meatloaf and my husband had the boar ribs and both of us cleaned our plate. We didn't plan on ordering dessert, but they had a flourless chocolate cake that was a perfect ending. We were only in Asheville for the weekend but will definitely be back next time we are in the area.
Food, service & low noise level made for a great meal. Only disappointment was a poorly made skimpy martini. We will be back.
Expertly crafted, delicious, local food. Beautiful presentation as well! All in a gorgeous historic building which made for a great setting for brunch. Had the crab cake benny and it was delicious- the hollandaise sauce was amazing. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Can’t wait to return for more meals!
Second visit and equally as wonderful as the first. Great selection, service and setting. An Asheville secret so far. Highly recommend.

Steve is lactose intolerant and we try to be gluten free and Todd the chef was incredibly accommodating to our special needs.
We ordered the beet salad which was delicious, colorful and beautifully presented. Todd modified the fried green tomato stack which usually comes with pimento cheese and a side of mac & cheese to a friendly meal for Steve. I had the delicious and abundant eggs benedict. We had almost everything on the menu and took home some sorbet. Very reasonably priced plus a discount to locals!
I don't think we've often been more pleased. Diverse, flavorful, creative and constructed with quality ingredients. Yummy and fun. Can't wait for the next opportunity to have brunch out.

I had the Portobello stack (trying out this healthy eating thing) and my friend had the brussels. Both were GREAT! Kelly, our server, was so kind! This could be our monthly brunch spot! So good!
I loved Sunday brunch here! It's a hidden treasure for sure. The breakfast brussels are amazing I'll definitely be back for more. It's such a cool setting- a historic hotel that overlooks downtown Asheville and a nice garden area. LOVE. oh and we came on a day when they were doing 2 for 1 Mimosas! HEEEYYYY
Excellent food, service and ambiance for Sunday brunch! Only open to the public for Sunday brunch or special events in this quaint inn near downtown. Makes it a great spot for a special time for an intimate gathering. Will definitely return!
Had a wonderful brunch at The Princess Anne. I had a Benedict and my friend had the breakfast Brussels and absolutely loved it. We also ordered a side of cheese grits and you can tell they are made with love. I love how almost everything is locally sourced and you can just taste freshness. I will definitely come here again. The 2 for 1 mimosas were a nice touch as well.
