I’ve never had anything but wonderful food and service at Primrose. The roasted chicken to share is to die for. My out of town guest was delighted by the charm and beauty of the space to boot. Lovely, full stop.
Great ambiance and amazing service. I'd say Primrose is a combination between a neighborhood gem and a go-to for great French food and welcoming, comfortable ambiance.
We really enjoyed our meal and the overall experience. The dishes were well executed. Only downside is that the whole chicken was not available. That gives us a reason to return!
Tasty entrees, steak and eggs cooked to perfection. Mussels were sublime.
We are regulars snd have always had the best time!!
Everything from food to service to ambience was outstanding, would not be surprised if this moved off of bin gourmand and received a star in the near future. Excellent meal.
Best natural wine list in DC carefully curated by the owner Sebastian and offering French food...que demander de plus! bravo.
Sebastian was amazing!!!
This is one of our favorite restaurants for all occasions.
A great night out for couples or friends. High quality food and service with a great wine list!
We had a wonderful evening. Our table wasn’t quite ready and we were given complimentary sparkling wine to compensate - in a beautiful wine glass. The meal was fantastic and the ambience perfect. The waitress was the perfect balance of professional and friendly. She paid special attention to our daughter which was appreciated.
Warm environment with superb service and delicious food. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. We ordered the shrimp toast and wine to start, and both were culinary delights. More tasty and creative than expected. Our entrees were perfectly cooked and nicely seasoned. We were too full for dessert, but left satisfied.
We will return again for special occasions.
We live in Brookland so are thankful to have this gem of a restaurant so close and convenient.
Amazing food and amazing service! Also a really charming atmosphere with unique decorations. A great brunch spot. Try the French toast...it is incredible!
I think I would recommend this place more for the cocktails and the atmosphere than the food. That's not to say the food was bad, I just didn't find it as exceptional as perhaps I had hoped/imagined it might be. The food is a solid 3, while the cocktails are a 4 and the decor/vibe was easily my favorite thing. Service was great, my dessert was tasty, but I don't think I'll be going out of my way to get down here again in the near future.
Great good, nice decor and ambiance! I would definitely recommend to anyone looking to try out a new place
We could talk - the foo, ambiance, service were perfect
Excellent food, waitstaff and very appealing small and intimate restaurant. Worth the effort to venture away from central DC to dine here and would definitely return!
Food and wine were fantastic. Limited choice of entree for vegetarians. However, a meal can easily be made from the small plates.
Foie gras and crudites appetizers were excellent. Wine recommendation (no rose available, so a very light dry red) was pricey, but a great match for our food. We had the gnocchi with a perfect sauce that did not remind us of Italian. And the moules were cooked just short of chewiness which is how you want them, and had a very satisfying broth with a hint of the sea and a great mixture of herbs. The servers did not hurry us along, luckily, since it was not a busy night, and thought of little nice things all along the way without being intrusive. It was expensive but the wine tab pushed it a little north of a great deal.
What a fantastic place - ambiance, the food, and our waiter was amazing! So much fun and great service!
The meal was delicious. We had the fish and steak frites for our mains, which were both outstanding and delicious. My only complaint is that the eclair dessert was disappointing.
Food and atmosphere were good. Food especially. Service wasn’t on par. Waiter and host were both cordial but service was rushed. Pressured to order and pay that was unpleasant.
Wine list, cocktails, difestif, after dinner drinks all good. Overall good but certainly didn’t “wow” me.
Great neighborhood restaurant felt welcoming and tantalized our taste buds.
Great spot good, service and ambiance
So this past Friday was my first and hopefully not my last experience at Primrose!
It was a wonderful evening. It was an energetic environment, but yet somehow was still allow for a cozy comfortable feel while dining even at the high-top table we were sat.
The food was exquisite! Done perfectly. We started off with the Duck liver mousse - Berry compote, crostini to whet the appetite. It was simply marvelous! Then we shared the "off-menu" version of the "30 oz. 28 day dry aged Roseda Farms Ribeye - Bone-in." It was bigger and aged longer. (I believe it was a 40 or 45 ounce, 60-day? aged rib eye.) The side of choice for us was pomme pureé. We went with glasses of wines recommend to us by our sever, I believe it was the Domaine Rolet, Poulsard blend, Jura, (FR 2012) [Please forgive me on the details of the ribeye and the wine I don't remember the exact details all of it was just too good!!]
Earlier in the evening at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, I had proposed to my now fiancé (and yes, she said yes - wedding in May 2020). Upon learning this news, Sebastian the host owner, was absolutely wonderful and kind to us! We were flattered by the attention. He brought us complimentary glasses sparkling wine to celebrate the occasion, and checked on us throughout the evening. I believe it was the Sebastien Brunet, Chenin Blanc Pet Nat, Vouvray. Again, absolutely wonderful, and again forgive me if I am wrong as to which one it was exactly. We were simply enjoying everything of the evening and the restaurant!
The bottom line, is we thoroughly enjoyed it! It will remain a special place for us and one we will come again to over the years to come! Sebastian, thank you and God Bless, Matt Hassan, Warrenton, VA
Everything was perfect! Wish I lived in DC as it would be our go to!!
Is a beautiful space, great service and a very caring staff. Enjoyed my meals very much.
Amazing. This place is so good for brunch and dinner. Super yummy. Amazing service and please order everything on the menus.
We love Primrose. Dining outside is wonderful and typically more quiet than dining inside.
Perfect meal. Highlights were the wine, the duck confit, and the mussels with frites. Absolutely worth the trek. I paid $30 round trip for the Uber, but I’d do it again.
Food very good except for a pea pod salad but they took it off the bill. Server, on her first night, was very helpful and knowledgeable! Definitely would go back again.
One of my favorite places. Everyone on staff cares about your experience and makes it as enjoyable as possible. Food is fantastic, and the wine is great with a range of price points.
I really enjoyed the pop up at Primose. Great food, drinks, and service. It was truly special.
Service was quite slow but they were busy. Really lovely staff.
Overall, it was a great experience. The service has a lot of room for improvement. We had to wave to get our waitress’ attention almost all the time.
My wife and I went here for our anniversary. The setting is beautiful and our server was great, but we found the food to be very disappointing. We ordered the mushroom ragu as a starter, which was tasty, but only came with one small piece of toast and a much more generous serving of the ragu. We ended up using our bread basket for the rest of the ragu, because we weren't sure what else to do with it. My wife's mussels were lackluster, had at least 4 that didnt' open up, and not a whole lot of broth. I had a burger that was very juicy but under seasoned. We decided to go somewhere else for dessert. Think this place would be best for drinks at the bar.
It was amazing! Ribeye was soooo good!!
I really enjoyed the ambiance at this restaurant. They have a great menu selection as well as tasty cocktails. The decor is wonderful as is the staff that works there. Cute neighborhood setting with plenty of parking close by. I'd definitely recommend and go back!
Not a wide menu but very good.
