Had an amazing second experience! We went for the second time in a week because the food was so amazing. Get the Roman Gnocch, you won’t be disappointed, best in the states.and ask for Mark, he is super personable and knowledgeable! The chef amento our table and he is an amazing person with an amazing story. Legit Italian!
The food is authentic. The service is excellent with a well trained staff. We love the atmosphere and have several friends that frequent Primo for all the same reasons.
This is one of our go to restaurants, and as usual it was great!
As always great food, service, and ambiance. Always look forward to my experience at Primos.
Excellent experience whenever we go!!
This is our fourth time at the restaurant. Everything was spectacular from the cocktails to the wine and the food and service. The owner came to the table and told us of the history of our dishes. Was a great experience. Recommend reservations. Thanks Open Table.
Loved the food, atmosphere and music!
The gnocchi all Romano was excellent. The calamari was good. The veal scallopini ( they had another name for it ) was tough and I never really enjoyed the sauce that they made for it. The profiterole was very good. All the help was really friendly except for our waiter Juan who’s seems like he really didn’t want to be there. The owner was very nice and so was the bartender Bill.
Worst Server in the Southbay. Our server Daniel screwed up our dinner experience. Petulant, Rush us through our dinner, late with the drinks and always had a stupid remark to say. I regret leaving him a tip.
Wonderful food and lovely atmosphere. Love the piano!
We love coming here, but on last visit had a major problem when we recently brought new patrons here. We had a problem with one guest’s entree. First, it was forgotten, so nothing was brought out when 3 other guests were served. It took waitstaff a while to inquire about it. Then , the missing entree came out 10 minutes later, but the chicken was pink everyone else was already finished. To their credit, the waiter offered a drink while awaiting the forgotten order. Then, the manager came over after the meal to apologize & comped the entire dinner. It was an appropriate gesture after an embarrassing experience.
The kitchen was obviously having a problem, and it overshadowed usually great food!
Wonderful. Best tbone I have ever had. Great food and ambiance and drinks and service
We've been here many times when we want a romantic authentic Italian dinner. One of the best in the South Bay.
So disappointed in the quality of the food. I really wanted to like it because I’ve only heard hood things about this place. We had the calamari appetizer which was the same as any place around here. I had the octopus appetizer and caprese salad as my meal and it was very disappointing :( I absolutely LOVE octopus any time I can get it, but to pay $19 for literally one leg and a whole bunch of stuff around it I couldn’t even identify was kind of ridiculous. I also had the caprese salad which was $15 and it was 1&1/2 tomatoes cut into quarters (maybe 6 slices) and 5 small pieces of mozzarella cheese I could’ve bought from the grocery store. It’s was very underwhelming. I’ve had some super delicious caprese salads and this was definitely NOT one of them. My husband had the lasagna and left half of it on his plate. He’s not a person to leave food left on his plate, so that let’s you know he wasn’t impressed either. Won’t be dining here again. Very overpriced for super mediocre food.....
Based on various reviews, my wife and I decided to try this place for dinner (first time). I had high hopes for the Braised Lamb Shank, but it was far from meeting my expectations. Although well flavored, it was very dry with the outer half being close to jerky. Moving on to other items we ordered; The grilled octopus was okay, it didn’t have any flavors associated with the word “grilled.” However, the black mussels, clam and linguine plate, dessert, and martinis were all EXCELLENT! I would like to go back and try some of the other pasta dishes and the pizzas.
Great! The food and service was amazing. Loved the Branzino
Made a reservation through open table tonight and we were pleasantly surprised! It was fairly busy with Valentines weekend but we got in with a 4 top for 2 adults and 1 toddler. They did not have a booster seat, but we managed.
We ordered the Arancini Siciliana, Siciliana fennel and orange salad, Orecchiette con Sugo di Agnello, Capricciosa pizza (per reco from the hostess), and tiramisu. I don't think I could have done without any of them. Their house made bread is delicious - chef definitely practices the "white art".
For drinks, I had a ginger beer (I wish they gave me a longer straw, so I just let my daughter use it) while my husband had a Manhattan and a glass of the Babcock wine. We were very excited to see Babcock on the menu as we are fans of that winery and it's rare that you see it on menus. My husband said the Manhattan was the best he's had in a very long time. Also had a hot tea and a decaf coffee. One more thing...they have the good crunchy ice chips in their water, cubes for their sodas and the large single ice cube for the Manhattan. Yes I judge bars by their ice.
Bill total before tip was $126 and some change which was pretty good considering how much food we ordered and took home the rest of the salad and 2 slices of pizza.
Service was great. You could tell they were busy but still very attentive. We cannot wait to come back again!
Sorry I didn't get any pics of the food. Presentation was fine.
Excellent Valentines weekend dinner, great steak and truffle pasta! Omar great server!
Very good food and service, but too louad.
Food was good.
Hard to get servers attention.
The servers were polite.
The servers were rushed to leave your attention.
Four of us celebrated my husband’s birthday on Valentines Day night. This is our favorite restaurant in the local Palos Verdes/Beach Cities community.
The live music was louder than usual; female singer could have toned it down a tad and we were in the back of the front room at table 31!
The waiter was rude and fresh towards my wife, very unprofessional.
The fish was poorly prepared, the sea bass is a very good fish but has to be cooked right. They used the wrong herbs to cook the fish.
Primo Italia is pretty noisy. It is nice to have a live piano player and singer, however the noise level is already pretty high before he starts playing. After that conversation is very difficult.
The service was very good. Mark did a great job, making no errors, and satisfying our needs and desires. The food was basic Italian and was very good. The eggplant appetizer was excellent, as was the chocolate desert.
Will probably go again, picking a less busy, and therefore quieter evening.
We enjoyed the quiet ambiance and attractive decor of the smaller dining room. The food was excellent, especially the tiramasu.
I read many of the reviews before booking our reservation. I know the GM personally. He strives for perfection and excellence in everything. First point: its a classic Italian restaurant bustling with live music, conversation, laughter, a close family experience and gratitude... its not a ‘noisy’ restaurant its an Italian restaurant. Many people were sharing conversation across tables. How Italian is that! Second point: review complaint states ‘no olive oil served with the bread’, correct! Instead handcrafted artichoke dip offers a different culinary experience. Third point: our meals were an out of body experience... perfectly cooked to our order, perfectly portioned and plated, hot, aromatic, palate pleasing and fairly priced. $95 for 2 people including drinks and octopus appetizer (not fishy at all.) We felt welcomed, and the service was professional.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in the South Bay. They haven't gone wrong with our food yet. Their mussels are extremely delicious and the pasta with Wild Boar ragu is outstanding. The pasta brings me back to my trip in Florence last year. Very authentic. The waiters are very friendly. I always bring a bottle of wine or prosecco whenever I dine here with friends.
Wonderful piano bar ambiance. Nice selection of food and wine
Nice atmosphere for a business dinner. The service was excellent. Food was good, but not outstanding. Nice wine selection, but whiskey pours were very light. Main dishes were very well prepared-veal, steak and fish-but the salads and sides lacked flavor and creativity. For the price, we expected more.
Lovely evening overall. We enjoyed the carpaccio, calamari and buffalo mozzarella appetizer and Cesar salad - delicious appetizers. For entrees we had from the tagliatelle, Rissoto, salmon entree, salmon special and veal. All were amazing. The salmon special while tasty may have been a bit too rich. The veal cheek stew Rissoto was a little on saltier side. Wine choices always a win both by the bottle and by the glass. This restaurant is truly a gem. Unfortunately we were sat in the back a superb room we could not hear the piano player. No worries as we will be back.
The food is way too greasy and cheesy. There was no olive oil served with the bread, which is very unusual for an Italian restaurant. The wines are very overpriced, compared to what the same wines go for elsewhere. The noise level was so loud that you couldn’t hear people at your own table. The service was not very attentive.
Been here several times before with great experiences and honestly i don’t leave reviews if it was a pleasant, palatable experience. But I was genuinely disappointed and flat out shocked at the marginal level of cuisine this time around. Between this visit and our last one.... it’s actually been a little while (about 6 months if I recall) so I was thoroughly looking forward to having another experience like previous ones there. I don’t know if there is a different chef at the helm or the quality of ingredients has changed.
We got the arancini balls and grilled octopus appetizer. The arancini balls had a taste of...hard to explain but it tasted synthetic in flavor. It almost tasted like it was a rubbery taste.
The octopus was super fishy in taste. I grew up from fisherman grandparents as well as my parents. Have friends that have two fish companies here in the South Bay. Fresh fish doesn’t smell or taste fishy. I’m not saying the octopus wasn’t fresh but it was certainly fishy.
My wife ordered the lamb shank and loved it. I went against my better judgment of initially intending to order the veal saltimbocca and decided to try the veal “our way”. I wish I didn’t. I’m used to eating veal scallopini (thinly pounded to the point it can be cut with a fork) growing up in an Italian household and still do to this day. I’ve never had a veal steak breaded and cut thick like a chicken cutlet. It just completely threw me off on how a veal is traditionally eaten.
The Sicilian fennel and orange salad was refreshing. I’m willing to chalk this up as just one of those fluke dining experiences and will come back again to see if I was accurate. But if the results are similar in nature. It’ll likely be our last experience there. We are gonna give the benefit of the doubt of our prior 6-7 dining experiences there and hope those experiences are duplicated, rather than the last one. Sorry for the review but you guys asked and I delivered. Have a great day.
What a great night on New Years's Eve! The piano and singer were outstanding and very entertaining! The food menu was fantastic! All the hostesses and servers were friendly and helpful!
My favorite restaurant to go to!!!
Great food! Great Music! We will be back to hear David Graham!
This was our first time dining at Primo Italia. I have to say that we were disappointed . I didn't like the bread they served. I ordered Linguine with clams and it was way too spicy.
An absolute beautiful location and very kind and friendly employees. You feel very welcome the moment you walk in. The menu is lovely and you can't go wrong was anything you pick. The prices are perfect for what is being offered. A fantastic drink selection. And don't forget the icing on the cake which is there deserts. I will definitely be bringing my family back for many years to come as long as this continues to be the superb example of how a restaurant should be.
Great food and service. Will come back again. Like that there are vegetarian choices.
Birthday dinner for my son.
Great service, great music, great food. What else do you want? Come on!
Our first time, and we absolutely loved it!! Food was amazing!!! For a date night, special occasion, business or friends’ gathering...or every day dining!! All of the for mentioned!
