Primebar Chicago Ratings and Reviews
The ambience was great and beer selection also great. The food was average and too cool should have been heated more. Taste was bland and service was slow. Overall ok I would like to try other menu items to see if the food quality is better. only other complaint was the restaurant was very cold something to do with the building attached not running the heat on the weekend, really?
Our reservation was for 7:15 pm on a Saturday evening. We we entered the Primebar and saw it was almost entirely empty, I was already afraid. As we tried to order drinks we learned that some of our choices, which were on the menu, were not available. This pattern continued as we ordered entres. Once the food arrived, it was not properly prepared. My taco meal was cold. The salad of one of my friends was spoiled. There server was obviously not proud of the restaurant and appeared to be sick (occasional cough). Not a great experience.
Usually a favorite but on this date service and food preparation (of one my staples) was subpar. The male waiter disappeared and we had to flag down someone else to help us to order and give us our bill. The meal I get was matted and apparently overcooked. I'll still go back but make sure I don't get the same waiter.
The food was ok, but nothing memorable to recommend this place to anyone. It was pretty empty and we had a reservation for 745 yet I felt we were getting rushed out the restaurant because all our food—appetizers, salads and entrees came out at the same time.. and my server went absent and didn’t see him until 15-20 minutes later. Then, he takes my fish & chips for them to “re-fry” to keep warm.. and it came back so greasy I had to let the fish drain on napkins because there was grease puddles on the fish... my salad and appetizer was good and my dates dish was ok so I gave it 3 stars. But honestly I wouldn’t recommend it unless you need a place with a big menu option for a business lunch.
We selected Primebar as a pre-theater spot to eat. 6:30 was the perfect reservation and the menu looked as if it provided enough options. We weren’t looking for a “fancy” or quiet dinner spot, so it worked. On the way to dinner we pulled up the address in google and the information stated it was closed. I went to the website and it said the restaurant was only open 11-11 M-F , so I immediately called to try and clarify. No answer. We were trying to come up with a plan B, but we’re happy to discover the restaurant was indeed open and very busy. Our table was nice, service was good and food was decent. I can see this as a good post-work or casual group get-together spot.
It was just ok. I ordered a salad and paid quite a bit extra for shrimp and when it came, there was a pile of those little shrimps that you would put in a shrimp salad - they were pasty white and horrible looking. And so bland tasting. My friends had sandwiches and they looked very basic. I expected a little higher end meal. I think the bar is the place to be - the restaurant has no character really.
Large restaurant, casual atmosphere, very good service. This meal was on a Saturday night, and the restaurant was not busy, which was great for conversation. The prior meal there was after work in the loop, had to wait for a table, but was still able to have a conversation. The menu had good variety. The food is solid.
We were going to the Opera, had a 5:30 curtain. I arrived a little early, they opened at 4pm. The rest of our party was late, tied up in traffic. They were very efficient and attentive and we were on time for the performance. The food was very good, with appropriate portion sizes. And they had Krombacher Pils on tap!!!
