Prime: An American Kitchen & Bar, Huntington, NY Ratings and Reviews
I feel like they are trying to get too many tables served in one night at Prime, taking away from the experience of everyone. We sat in the row of tables opposite the restrooms, due to how skinny the aisle is because of another row of tables, my chair was kicked maybe 30 times throughout dinner, no exaggeration. Half of those times by employees, most of whom didn't even apologize because they were in such a rush. Both our table neighbors said the same. One of the more disappointing trends in dining is how restaurants are starting to force you to place your entire order together, instead of enjoying an evening. While Prime didn't make us do this, our waiter lectured us on why we should. It's a very short sighted approach to a dining experience, more tables seated tonight or actually guarantee return business long term. I used to view Prime as a fine dining experience. And while the food quality is still there, I now view it as a bar and grill with better food
Ambiance is incredible, service was great as well. Wine list is incredible. Appetizers were terrific tonight and so were the sides but the filet mignon was very tough and chewy, definitely not typical of Prime. The filet is always so tender and flavorful but the steak was definitely not up to par. Typically this place is on point and consistent but after tonight I’m not to sure that I would say that.
I've been to prime numerous times over the years and have never had an issue until the other night. Our waiter disappeared the food was cold and people who sat down 30 min after us were served before us. The waiter did not go over the specials and the chef introduced himself to people who haven't been there in years while I'm there almost every month.
Made the reservation based on recommendation from friend of a friend and generally good reviews. We were celebrating my mother's 90th birthday. We had a wonderful meal and outing with a lot of individual attention despite it being a busy Saturday night. Especially appreciated the ability to bring our own cake and have it presented and served at the restaurant (with no service fee). Would highly recommend and plan to go back!
Everything was wonderful until we discovered mold on the inside of a labeled bottle of sparkling water that was brought to our table. After a quick back and forth with the staff and the manager we found out that they reuse these labeled bottles of sparkling water. When you are done with it they wash them out and refill them in the back and bring it to the next table as if it was 'new'. No matter how good the food is, or how nice the place is, once you learn they do things like this it makes you not want to go back. It makes you wonder what else you don't see.
Prime Huntington is one of my favorite dinner & lunch spots to spend with my friends & co-workers. I can never ever get enough of this place. My teenage daughter loves this as well ! The hospitality experienced by the wait staff & maitre de is pleasant & fun. I was impressed that Lauren, the maitre de, recognized us - loved that bonus touch. Looking forward to our next meal there !
A little disappointed having heard so many wonderful things about Prime. I am not sure if this
was due to it being restaurant week. Gnocchi appetizer & wine pairing were delicious, Steak had a strange taste, & the wine pairing with the second course I didn't care for. Cheese cake was yummy, chocolate dessert a miss. Service was Magnificent, and we enjoyed ourselves anyway!
We came to celebrate my girlfriends birthday. 730pm reservation. We got seated immediately. The hostess walked us over actually beat me to pulling out my gfs seat. Waiter came over and was very nice. Got drinks. Then we asked some questions about the menu. Waiter was absolutely amazing with explaining and answering our questions. Food was delicious. Portions were great. We got two dinners. Two sides and a salad to share. Cost was 195. We will definitely return. Perfect evening. Even got a gift card on the house and a slice of cheese cake for her bday. 👍🏼 #winning
We have been to Prime many times, and each time we have an enjoyable time. This time was especially enjoyable, as we were able to completely enjoy our beef wellington. The table of 4 all had the wellington. Great flavor, and cooked perfectly for each of the people at the table. The skillet potatoes were delicious as was the mashed potatoes. We're planning our next trip already.
From the minute we arrived we felt welcome. The valet, receptionist/hostess, the busboy, our waiter and the sommelier were all kind, attentive and knowledgeable. Our waiter, Bist, was amazing and treated us with old-world courtesy. We ordered from the anniversary prixe fix menu and every dish was so incredible. The gnocchi appetizer was especially good, light and tender with a delicate flavor. Our table was in the wine cellar and the atmosphere was quiet and romantic. We will be back again and again.
