PRIMA Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
Bartender was very busy. He did not get to our friends drink order at all and they were at the bar for at least 15 minutes. Bartender not friendly at all.
They will only allow you to bring in 2 bottles for cot age fee even though we had six in our party. We like to bring our own wines As we belong to several wine clubs.
Waitress was very good.
Excellent food and service. It was very loud, and occasionally became impossible to hear, but some people like that atmosphere. It was very loud when we arrived at 7:30 but by 8:30 the background noise was reduced, so eat later if you like a quieter atmosphere. Daniel was our waiter and was the peak of professionalism and poise.
We had a great family dinner. We were seated quickly. Our server was prompt, knowledgeable, friendly and attentive to our table but did not hover. Everyone enjoyed their entrees, the wine suggestion by Frank was great as usual and the deserts capped off a great meal.
We have been to Prima many times and it never disappoints. The food is spectacular and the service is friendly and attentive. The wine list is lovely and knowledgeable people can discuss choices with you. The food reflects the seasons and certain regions of Italy. There are enough choices to satisfy any appetite or food requirement and the kitchen has been known to modify menu choices as well. The meal is well paced and we leave relaxed and satisfied. And of course knowing that we will happily return. Sometimes Chef Peter even makes a visit at our table...
I have been to Prima well over a dozen times over the last 16 years and held a company dinner there. I made reservations for Christmas eve. I had asked for a quiet table when I arrived, and the hostperson inquired if I would like a table in the fireplace room as a party had finished their meal. Sure, and I would wait. After waiting 15 to 20 minutes for a fireplace table I was instead seated at a table that was adjacent to a doorway that led to the fireplace room. When I was seated, I happened to notice that a table was vacant in the fireplace room and was told that it was reserved for someone else. No one ended up being seated at it in the hour I was there.
My table was directly in the path of a pass-through area. This was not a quiet table and I had to switch sides just to avoid being grazed and occasionally bumped by the servers coming to and from it. In fact, this was one of the least desirable tables in the place. So much for years of my patronage.
The server seem inexperienced, was slow, and failed at key metrics. The entree was acceptable, although swimming in sauce which overwhelmed the pasta itself. I did not have time to raise these issues as I was running on a tight schedule and needed to be somewhere else.
This is not what I expect of a restaurant of this caliber and at the higher price point. Although I have in he past written favorable reviews, I cannot currently recommend this restaurant. There are better options right in Walnut Creek that have never failed me.
Came here for my parents’ 34th anniversary. What a gem. Service and ambiance were terrific. The steak, pizzeta and tiramisu were delicious. The tagliolini pasta, lamb and burrata were just alright. We had a wonderful time overall.
Another wonderful meal at Prima. My wife and I treat this restaurant as that “special” restaurant when food, service, experience all has to come together on a consistent basis. Chef Peter is a master...the staff is exceptional and always striving to provide the best service. I rarely go into the city when I have this special restaurant in the east bay. If you don’t try this place, you are missing out on a truly great experience. Tip...don’t pass up Gnocchi when you have the opportunity here :)
The food was quite good, although the menu was rather small. We were seated in the front of the restaurant in the atrium section and as it filled it became increasingly loud in there until we had to focus to hear each other while trying to have a conversation. A bit too loud for my taste.
We went to Prima for my wife's birthday. The waiter was personable and very helpful. The food was delicious and the drinks were great too. We missed our favorite app. but the chef replaced it with a great and different item. Prima is a wonderful place for a date or a special occasion. We will be back.
We have enjoyed many fine dinners and the service has always been perfect. However, this time the bartender was also our waiter. While he did his best to provide us with good service he was really stretch between tables and manning the bar. Hopefully in the future this will not happen again.
Prima is an excellent choice for a special occasion. The chef - Peter Chastain - is creative, and a great cook! The staff is professional; service excellent; special requests accommodated (a quiet table, a combination of antipasti). Recommended without hesitation.
We had a wonderful time and enjoyed the food and the wine. We had assistance from the sommelier for pairing with seafood spaghetti and lamb and swordfish. It was a great super Tuscan . He also assisted with the grappa choice paring with lemon tart. We also purchased the House olive oil which is lovely. They never rushed us. We eat here at least once a year .😀
