PRIMA Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
Went for birthday celebration and we both had the chef’s menu with wine pairings. It was an Italian Alpine menu, and we are going to that area soon, so we decided to try the menu. We loved the carefully prepared dishes with the wine pairings, best meal in a really long time! Costly, but very special.
The food wasn’t that great compare to the price ($400 for two). The menu didn't deliver a value or have a wow factor vs cost (I would value the food at $150 for two) actual value of the food $150v/$400c = 37.5%, 62.5% under delivered or inflated price. Nice place I would say.
Service was very nice and they seated us right when we got there (little after our reservation time). It was a bit interesting as we had several different people/servers attending our table, but the service was still very good. My only complaint was the wait for soup wine and finally main course food was longer then expected. Overall the food quality was great. Full but not huge portions sizes with great flavor. With that said neither of our meals where beyond amazing. Finally I would say the room was quite and an older crowd. Great for dates and romantic evenings, but not a high energy experience.
The atmosphere was quite relaxing and romantic, the food was exquisite and they were even able to put together a vegan dish that was absolutely delectable! Additionally, the service was exceptional and our server was very attentive and friendly. Our experience was absolutely delightful and we’re looking forward to dining there again!
From start to finish PRIMA delivered on an amazing experience. Servers and hostess were charming and helpful with all questions. The food was indescribable, it was so good. Our party surprised the restaurant by bringing a cake (without calling prior) and were given amazing care. It was plated and served with the kind of detail the rest of their in-house creations were given, a beautiful touch of artistry. I can't wait to have an excuse to go back and experience PRIMA again.
We were celebrating my husband's birthday and had a wonderful evening. The food, ambiance and service was what made it so special. Our food server was attentive and made recommendations. We split a salad and two entrees and she made it quite easy to do. We had not been go Prima in quite a while given the prices, but the prices are justified for a special occasion.
My husband and I enjoyed an early evening “date night” at Prima this past Saturday. We cannot say enough good things about our evening! We loved the ambiance (cozy and romantic), the service (our server was Fallon, who was amazing), our pre-dinner craft cocktails (delicious), our meal (my husband thought that his rack of lamb was “the best he has ever had”), the wine recommendations during our meal (paired beautifully with our entrees) and the pace of our meal (perfection! We felt like we were in Italy)! We will definitely be back for a special date night, birthday or anniversary celebration!
Bartender was very busy. He did not get to our friends drink order at all and they were at the bar for at least 15 minutes. Bartender not friendly at all.
They will only allow you to bring in 2 bottles for cot age fee even though we had six in our party. We like to bring our own wines As we belong to several wine clubs.
Waitress was very good.
Excellent food and service. It was very loud, and occasionally became impossible to hear, but some people like that atmosphere. It was very loud when we arrived at 7:30 but by 8:30 the background noise was reduced, so eat later if you like a quieter atmosphere. Daniel was our waiter and was the peak of professionalism and poise.
We had a great family dinner. We were seated quickly. Our server was prompt, knowledgeable, friendly and attentive to our table but did not hover. Everyone enjoyed their entrees, the wine suggestion by Frank was great as usual and the deserts capped off a great meal.
We have been to Prima many times and it never disappoints. The food is spectacular and the service is friendly and attentive. The wine list is lovely and knowledgeable people can discuss choices with you. The food reflects the seasons and certain regions of Italy. There are enough choices to satisfy any appetite or food requirement and the kitchen has been known to modify menu choices as well. The meal is well paced and we leave relaxed and satisfied. And of course knowing that we will happily return. Sometimes Chef Peter even makes a visit at our table...
I have been to Prima well over a dozen times over the last 16 years and held a company dinner there. I made reservations for Christmas eve. I had asked for a quiet table when I arrived, and the hostperson inquired if I would like a table in the fireplace room as a party had finished their meal. Sure, and I would wait. After waiting 15 to 20 minutes for a fireplace table I was instead seated at a table that was adjacent to a doorway that led to the fireplace room. When I was seated, I happened to notice that a table was vacant in the fireplace room and was told that it was reserved for someone else. No one ended up being seated at it in the hour I was there.
My table was directly in the path of a pass-through area. This was not a quiet table and I had to switch sides just to avoid being grazed and occasionally bumped by the servers coming to and from it. In fact, this was one of the least desirable tables in the place. So much for years of my patronage.
The server seem inexperienced, was slow, and failed at key metrics. The entree was acceptable, although swimming in sauce which overwhelmed the pasta itself. I did not have time to raise these issues as I was running on a tight schedule and needed to be somewhere else.
This is not what I expect of a restaurant of this caliber and at the higher price point. Although I have in he past written favorable reviews, I cannot currently recommend this restaurant. There are better options right in Walnut Creek that have never failed me.
