Priest House Restaurant

Very attentive, friendly staff. Relaxed environment. Crouton with pate was a little hard but other than that the food was excellent. Excellent value for money. Will definitely go again

Friendly Staff in the restaurant who made saw everyone was alright. Plenty of dishes to choose from the menu. Good value will be going again.

The starter was acceptable but I have been to many high street cafes where the quality has been better. The main course a Sunday Roast was cold and the vegetables undercooked and one serving between two people and no jugs of gravy were offered or presented with the main course. The Yorkshire Puddings were the mass-produced variety found in Pub chains.

The sweet was by far the best option but even then we had to ask for cutlery to eat the third course.

The clients who had previously left their tables the service staff could not be bothered to clean them for at least 20 minutes they were not overworked by any standards.

The event was supposed to be a 28 year wedding anniversary, spoilt by poor standards. How they stay in business is beyond me, I will NOT recommend this establishment until under new ownership or management

The customer service was appalling. We had to wait 40 minutes to be taken into the restaurant when we had pre-booked the table , wait a further 10 minutes when seated for the actual menu, to then be told there was no fine dining that evening and they usually put guests in the bar to eat. They had ran out of our food choices when we came to order from the 'bar ' menu, the wait between courses was excruciating slow, 20-25 minutes between each course. When the dishes eventually arrived they were barely luke warm and then when you thought the service couldn't get any worse, the waitress had the audacity to ask us to pay the bill whilst we were still eating our desert because quote "they should have cashed up at 11.00pm"! Perhaps if we hadn't been shown to our table 40 minutes late, waited an hour in total between courses we would have gladly left as soon as we could have. An embarrassing night overall showing our visiting Australian friends some English not so 'fine dining'. We ended up paying £200 (for 5 people) for cold fish & chips (of which more than half was left), dry vegetable tarts and leathery steak. Never again will we return to the Priest house when you can get better service and food at a layby cafe!

On first impressions staff not very welcoming. Then told only 3 out of 6 starters available. Saying that the sharing platter was nice and the main courses were very good. Definite lack of staff. With improvements could be a very nice place to eat

Having stayed before we were expecting a nice meal. However this time the food was dreadful. It barely resembled what was on the menu. They had forgotten we had booked so there was a long delay before we ate. Off duty staff were sat in the restaurant wearing high vis coats messing around and going in and out of the kitchen. It all added up to being one of the worst meals we have ever had.

Also since our last visit the rooms were looking tired paint and wallpaper peeling off in several areas of the room.

It will be our last visit and would no longer recommend

We ate here because we were staying at the hotel on a travelzoo deal and got a free bottle of house wine if we did. We were the only diners on a Friday evening, not a good sign. The menu was decent, the wine list very good. The house wine was average. The wine glasses were not at all clean, covered in fingerprints and water marks for not being polished. I asked for clean ones and when they were exchanged the new ones were better but still not clean. A three course set meal here is £39.00, not cheap. When we examined the bar menu the next day we noticed all the food from the restaurant menu that night was available on it. Worse still we could have had the same food in the bar for around £20 cheaper overall, we just wouldn't have had a free house wine. The waitress bought the wine in a proper ice bucket, full marks for that, but just put it down and walked away; no service there. The bread was excellent, caramelised onion, really delicious. Starters were good, main was mixed. My wife had a sirloin with peppercorn sauce, it was first rate; that sauce! I had lamb rump, cooked beautifully but not at all hot. I could not taste the spinach puree and the sauce was so sparse it was dried into a thin ring on the plate and rendered useless. The mash was good though. The dessert we had seen on a sample menu online was not on offer that night so we asked and they agreed to do that for us, of course we found out later it's available in the bar everyday anyway. It was well worth having, gin poached pear. The waitress was only visible while she was bringing something in or taking something out all evening, service was very poor. It was a shame really because this place could be much better if they just got some basics right, clean glasses, hot food and staff who stick around to serve you when you need something. If they are going to make you pay inflated prices for the privilege of eating in the restaurant rather than the bar then they should make it a much better experience.

Excellent food and value for money
Staff are all nice and polite and cannot do enough for you wether it’s just a drink at the bar or a meal in the restaurant.
The grounds surrounding the Priest House are so picturesque too.

The only downside was that when my partner and I arrived we were told that the food was being served in the Millstream as the Priest Restaurant was closed. This was a bit disappointing as it was my partners 60 Birthday and I wanted it to feel special for dining.

Food was delicious, game pie was the best, duck tagietlle was well stocked with duck, will go again

The priest House is set next to the river, it was a lovely warm evening so we had a drink out before eating.
The food was excellent however bites they're not being many customers and there being 3-4 staff tables weren't cleared and the staff seemed more interested in having a gossip than working. We would go back for the food but the management need to up their game.

We had a fantastic Valentine's Day dinner at the Priest House Hotel. We will definitely be returning, perhaps to try their Sunday lunch!!

Sorry we only stayed for Dinner, Bed & Breakfast. food excellent, staff very friendly and just a great experience. Will definitely come back in the summer and hopefully the weather will be kinder and make the experience even better.

Food was out of proportion, starter too big, main too small, desert big enough for 4

Nice location. Very good service. Felt a little uncomfortable as one of only two tables occupied all evening. Food made up for no atmosphere.

Lovely food and good number of menu choices including vegetarian. House wine was included with our meal and was very pleasant. Given complimentary glass of champagne to celebrate my wife's birthday, a nice touch. Service was good too.

Food, excellent choice and very well cooked but portions were very small compared to similar high class restaurants. Also, I would have expected a few surprises like little "amuse bouches" for this type of dining experience. This is also the reason I rated it just ok for value for money. Good service and amazing location but restaurant atmosphere was a little cold.
