we were the only customers in the restaurant. the food was mediocre at best, and generally underseasoned. service was fine and the somelier was terrific, but OVERALL IT WAS REALLY A DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE
I did not know what to expect but I was in for a pleasant surprise! Everything was excellent! The concept of the restaurant is so unique. The layout is just wow! This is a great place for a date night. The food was good and there was a lot of it so come hungry. I highly recommend it.
Service was amazing. Food was outstanding. The portions are generous. My mom and I really enjoyed the whole experience!
Our visit was one of the best experience of dining. My family from London were thoroughly impressed. Myself, being from Dar-es-salaam, it was like visitng home. Sorry that this is a "pop-up" restaurant and not available in another month.
Best of everything. Unique. Thank you for this amazing experience. Hopefully I shall visit before its closing.
The experience was great. We did the 3 course tasting. Wonderful service and delicious and interesting food. We probably had a little too much bread in the first course but all the dips were so good. Maybe there were too many? So the result was we ran out of steam by the fish course and couldnt finish it even though it tasted good. The middle course - squid ink pasta was great! The atmosphere was really cool. Totally felt like we were transported with the images, the decor and the sounds (maybe a little warmer temp would make it feel even more like the islands than a loft space - haha)
Truly an incredible time. The food was perfect, as were the wine pairings -- but the service and ambiance really took this evening to a completely different level. We felt transported to Zanzibar!
Really liked the restaurant. Very good service but the food came very slowly. It seemed the kitchen was across the street. That said, food was delicious and a fund experience. Staff was great and we very much enjoyed it.
We went with somewhat muted expectations but both agreed it was a fabulous time. Food, service, wine all first class and a fun experience overall. Bravo MasterCard
An amazing experience! Food and the attention was exceptional our waiter Ety Was delightful. Also our wine server was great ! (Forgot his name ).
But I can’t wait to do it again .
Poor design: the middle of an office building with TV screens as windows is not a great time. Way overpriced for the experience; no one was there; and the waiter spilled wine all over me and the table.
Amazing experience! Can’t wait for the next priceless event!
Everything was amazing. Food. Service. Ambiance. The servers were friendly and knowledgeable. EVERYTHING was amazing!!!!
Tasting menu was great, and highly recommend adding the sommelier selection of wines to round out your meal. The projections of what you might see outside were a nice touch, although we felt that as an experience they could have done a lot more with the roof of the restaurant (i.e. finish the thatching). Highlights of the meal were all the different spices used in each dish. While some other reviewers noted small portions, by the end of the meal we were both full. And that bread! OMG that bread is amazing, and useful to 'spoon up' every spice and sauce on each plate.
This place was like being a 1000 miles away. You really sensed that you were on an island. It was a price fixed but reasonable for the food served. Our service was totally first class. I don’t know how they pulled this off for a pop up.
It was romantic and amazing! It was my partner’s 40th and this was the best evening I could gift him. The simulation of Zanzibar in the background was super cool. We did feel like we were spending the evening at Zanzibar 😊😊
This was a phenomenal experience with exceptional food, ambiance and service. Perfection.
The entire experience was stellar. Our server Aiti was perfection. I would come back 10 times over.
We were a company of three people living in New York and we were very much looking forward to the experience. However, we were deeply disappointed as it seemed to be a place to impress tourists and a highly publicized, overstated experience. The food portions were significantly small, to the point, that all of us left without feeling full at all. The most important issue was that the food had no flavor at all and had nothing unique to it. It was not bad but certainly not memorable, different, or exciting. I have never been to Zanzibar to be able to compare what the real local food tastes like but the main attraction (the food) failed to deliver. Service was pleasant but not coordinated, maybe they were still in the beginning or training phase. The decor was cheesy and not elegant, nothing like what is posted online. Also, given the price and the brand that is being promoted, you would expect a high-end dining experience not servers walking in the dining area with plastic containers to unload the clean glasses. The chairs, although seemed to give a local, seaside feel, were very uncomfortable to sit through the time required for a tasting menu. The good thing was the sufficient wine quantity for the wine pairing (optional) portion and that the servers were polite. We got the tasting menu ($135) and the wine pairing ($94) which ended up being approximately $300 per person. For this price range, you should expect to receive at least an enjoyable experience and an excellent meal, which was not the case. Overall, too much fanfare without delivering. I would not recommend it and would rather not have gone.
By chance we took the fish plate, I would have been hungry with the basic menu - very little to eat
Over cooked gnocchi
But great concept
This place is such a treat! My wife and I ate here last night for her birthday. While I must say, it is one of the most expensive meals we ever had, the food quality and the memories that we will have for the rest of our lives made it worth every penny. Barbara our server, made the evening even more enjoyable with her genuine and beautiful personality. Her explanations, stories, and descriptions of each portion of the meal was enough to make us both feel like we were thousands of miles from Manhattan.
The food was presented beautifully and enhanced with spices that were new to the palate. We enjoyed every bite! We added on “the rock” fish platter for 2 and would up taking a bit of food home with us.
I highly recommend this gem for anyone lucky enough to get in. Definitely one of those places for a special occasion.
Unique dining experience with excellent food! Restaurant itself was a bit bland in decor but they are recreating something on a literally rock so I get it.
Too bad it was only temporary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everyone from the doorman on the street to the waiter was pleasant and professional. Nice experience. Food small portions but big in flavor. Not cheap. Paying mostly for experience but the food was really good and staff knowledgeable.
Portions are extremely small.
It was a fabulous experience and MasterCard is doing to a great job with the priceless restaurant pop-ups.
The ambiance was lovely, the creativity should be rewarded for and the food was fresh and decadent.
Me and my friends had a memorable time.
The Rock is way too expensive! The food is less than tapas portions and not very impressive. It's very beautiful but it is overpriced. I regret it. Definitely not a Priceless experience.
Amazing food and ambiance. Had an awesome experience. Definitely recommend if you can visit before it closes.
The experience is amazing, the recreation of the Rock in Zanzibar is fabulous. The service was great and the food was overall very good. There is very little choice of wines though and most of the wines are ridiculously expensive. The dinner is quite expensive.
Amazing wine pairing
you are treated as a VIP from the moment you walk through the front door until leave. The sound of the ocean, décor and the time lapse video of Tanzania are fantastic.
Wow. We weren't sure what to expect. Mastercard has recreated The Rock Restaurant including sounds and video projections of the beach; almost like a movie set. But the best part was the food and service. Each course was full of both new and familiar flavors integrated in ways that I would have never thought possible and still be so incredibly delicious. My wife and I tested each other's ability to discern the flavors which made the meal that much more fun. The waitstaff was perfect. They were friendly, attentive and engaging. I highly recommend the experience.
Its pricey at $130/person. Fire alarm rang for 1/5th of the dinner so it killed the ambiance. Very creative concept and would attend more of these events.
Extremely attentive and knowledgeable staff + the experiential/ sensorial éléments that simulate being on the beach in Zanzibar make this a once in a lifetime dining moment. Food + wine is amazing. Can’t recommend this place enough. You won’t be disappointed. Grab a seat by the “beach” if you can...
Felt transported to Zanzibar especially looking out the widows at videos of the actually happens outside those exact windows in Zanzibar...the tides, the boats, the sunset...Somehow it made the amazing food taste even better.
Amazing experience! Food and service were excellent, would highly recommend.
Amazing food. Cool experience.
Would definitely recommend this experience to a friend. Fun atmosphere!
Dinner at The Rock was like a mini vacation to Zanzibar! From the warm welcome, local customs, delicious food and stunning design, it was truly a Priceless experience! We were seated on the patio with a lovely view. Our servers were extremely friendly and attentive. The menu is predominantly seafood with flavors of coconut, cinnamon, cardomon, cumin and other delicious seasoning. Portions are modest - it’s a tasting menu and everything was perfectly cooked. #mcemployee
