You’re not going to get this menu anywhere else in LA. They will try and copy it but they won’t be able to replicate the mouthwatering smiles of YUMMY that we experienced! Staff (Violet the bartender & Sasha the waitress) were super nice! Only thing that could have made it better would have been if the balcony was open! Oh well, leaves ANOTHER reason to return! Highly recommend Preux & Proper!
Place is great! 9 out of ten. Only thing that I would recommend is a few lite dishes to go with the HEAVY meals. Would definitely return just not too often as I want my pants to fit!
The food is wonderful. The staff is very kind & helpful.
The food was good, but a little overpriced. We were not happy with the $35 corkage fee. Highest I have ever encountered!
Will not return, just not that exciting.
I absolutely loved eating here and I plan on visiting again when the upstairs portion opens up.
Good food. Great atmosphere
Larger portions than we expected for share plates, was good food and we had a great server, Robert.
We sat in the tall table bar section for dinner and we were ignored for quite awhile. I walked back to the hostess and asked about a server and she brought us waters. Ok. Waited some more and then she took our drink orders. She was new so I was very clear that I wanted my drink "up" as in chilled and served in a martini class. It was half the size of a normal drink, in a tumbler and warm. Not even close. The food arrived and was excellent and saved the day but it felt like the entire staff was new as nobody seemed to know what was going on.
Went for brunch...some of the items on the menu are more of side items or not complete entrees and it seems as if they were just pushing the chicken and waffles. I went against the grain and ordered the collard greens and beignets. Greens were pretty good but the Beignets were doughy inside (I’m biased, my family is from the Nola area). And the popsicle mimosa was pretty good as well except they use store bought popsicles. I was under the impression they were made in house. Nonetheless brunch was good overall...service was great!
We had a 12:45 reservation for Sunday brunch. Asked if we could be seated when we arrived at noon. Very accommodating and said yes. Some of the dishes can be shared between 2 or3 people as we had plenty of left overs to take home, which isn't a bad thing. The food was excellent and one of our party is from the South and cannot stop talking about how great everything was! Looking forward to returning for dinner and or Happy Hour, a big thank you to the talented crew at Preux and Proper !!!!!!!!!!
Amazing food but the service was very slow for Sunday Brunch. Would have ordered more drinks but they took too long.
Absolutely delicious food and wonderful service! Wish it wasn’t so far from home. I’m going to be craving the Sweet Corn and the Octopus.
If your looking for a taste of New Orleans with a twist....this is the place for you.
Absolute fabulous. Food was amazing and Chef Sammy came and chatted with us. One of the best dining experiences I've had in years.
The wait staff was not very good. The restaurant was too cold and twice, two waiters said they would do something about it and did not. Not until the manager came by was anything done. The manager was good. Since this is downtown parking is not that great.
Great food and atmosphere. I will be back for the octopus. It was tender and well seasoned.
We were pleasantly surprised by its charm and creative dishes. The decor and ambience are suited for the food and service was very efficient. A great addition to downtown!
Had high hopes. Service was a little slow. Table next to us had a dog that started barking during dinner. Food was great. Cocktails were on point. Will come back for bar area next time.
The chicken pate alone is worth the trip. Octopus is a favorite. Hush puppies are good but are more of a crab cake. I've had better rabbit. It still needs work. Maybe too sweet for an entree.
We went for a Valentine’s Day dinner date. The dining area is up a flight of stairs. Not long after we were seated, the empty table next to us was offered to two women. One woman carried a small dog with her. I was more than astonished that the management allowed this. As far as I’m aware, dogs are permitted ONLY in outdoor patios, and must stay on the ground. They are not allowed in indoor dining areas, and not on the furniture. This dog was allowed to walk on the furniture, wander across the banquet to explore what we had on our table, wander away dragging its loose leash across the floor, and yapped several times. The dog owner must have been a VIP to get away with this nonsense, as the restaurant management and servers were extremely attentive to her. In the meantime, service at our table was languid and inattentive.
The food was good, but due to this egregious violation of health codes and common courtesy, this overpriced experience was far less than expected. I have to take away stars.
Our server was the bomb! He was so attentive! I wish I could remember his name, but he was a slender brotha with short twists. He was awesome I ordered something I didn't like and he made a suggestion for the catfish and was right on the money!
Great food, cool ambiance, and great service.
The ambiance reminded me of New Orleans but the food was average and the helpings were small for the prices they charge. A bit over priced.. .
Came here for Friday night dinner with a group of friends. The food is served family style and meant for sharing. We ordered the braised collards, burrata, house andouille sausage and fried whole game hen. We absolutely loved the fried while game hen. The sweet and spicy along with the crispy texture of the chicken made for a flavorful experience. We cleaned that plate. The braised collards were good. It had deep flavors and was definitely not your granny’s greens. The other items weren’t too memorable. I’ll definitely be back to try other items on the menu.
I don't remember his name, but we had a wonderful server. Had a hiccup with Open Table billing, but the restaurant fixed it quite fast.
Trendy, semi-hidden restaurant with nice ambience. Had a great date here.
Food was delicious just like the first time. Coming back for thirds.
The ambiance was inviting with open windows welcoming fresh air into our midst as we dined. Food took awhile to arrive especially the fried chicken waffle which took an hour from point of order. The avocado toast was good but definitely pricey for what you get.
I found the food to be good but nothing was particularly memorable except perhaps the Seaweed Salad. The "house wine" was not very good.
Service was awesome! Trip was such a great server, and so were the bussers & runners... Kudos to them! :)
Great food great service plain an simple. We enjoyed
Decided to check this restaurant out during dine l.a. week. Came on a Monday night so wasn't too crowded. Very cute ambiance with old black-and-white movies playing on t.v.s. Place was clean and very dimly lit. Our server, Trevor, was helpful with recommendations and attentive and professional. The food was so flavorful and delicious. Every one in our party was more than happy with their order. The starters are more than large enough for 4 to share. The roasted corn was very tasty as well as the hush puppies.
I ordered the catfish which came in thinly sliced strips lightly fried and sitting ok n a smiley chipotle-like sauce with thin sliced fried pickles. Definitely order if u like catfish.
Only things I would have liked are valet parking. We had to pay $10 to park in lot across the street. And it's really dark in there making it hard to see the menus.
My wife and I are native Alabamians, and Angelenos for 25 years now. This is the best, most authentic Cajun/Creole/Soul Food place Los Angeles has produced in decades. The collard greens with crispy pork shoulder are to die for. It's in the old and charming Angelique cafe, which is missed but this is a most worthy replacement for the space and the vibe. Preux and Proper would fit right in anywhere in the Big Easy. Delicious beyond compare and the service is warm, casual, knowledgeable and attentive. Can't recommend it highly enough.
Great food, nice vibe...a little expensive but otherwise a nice restaurant.
Loved the food and service exceptional.
Food was outstanding and they've done a terrific job with the design. It's friendly, and inviting inside and out. Service left a little to be desired. Would have liked to have known in advance that it's family style and the portions are big. Also, had a very aggressive table busser. My friend's burger was whisked away when he was only half done. He didn't say anything because he honestly thought that maybe it had been taken to be reheated since he'd been talking so long without eating it. The rest of us had to stop dishes from being taken away too early several times. Relax, we're there for brunch, there were open tables - don't make us feel like we've got to get out.
I went here for dineLA. From that menu, I ordered the braised collard greens and charred octopus. The collard greens came out lukewarm and were almost soupy—not very appetizing. The octopus was similarly lukewarm and the texture was completely off. There were very few hints of “char” despite the dish being named charred octopus.
The waiter was nice but very inattentive. Overall, the entire experience was not what I had hoped it would be.
Very creative menu, very well prepared meal. I thought the food was excellent!! We split the deep rock fish with fries. The fish was perfectly prepared, not oily, the fish was flaky and most - killer. Starters where the crab hush puppies - perfectly fried and swimming in butter and the burrata cheese. I would recommend all. I thought to room was ok, too hip for me and it was a noisy room. We sat out on the small patio upstairs and that was magical. Only 3 tables long King down spring. I will be back.
Loved it, great staff, wowed my friend who is not an easy person to impress, would highly recommend it to anyone who is on a first date, food and ambiance is a great ice breaker
This was my second time dining at Preaux & Proper and it was every bit as great as the first! We came for DineLA, their menu selection was basically their everyday menu, wine was included in the $49 per person cost, it was a choice of either their house red or their house white. Tad was our server and he was the best! They ran out of my mother's fav, the catfish, but he turned it into a sweet little joke. You also got a dessert each, something that not all DineLA restaurants do. Overall it was a great experience and I will happily return.
