Preux & Proper is a New Orleans themed restaurant/bar in DTLA that is surprisingly tolerable.
Loved the ambiance and sharing dishes family-style was a lot of fun! My gumbo was delicious and my kids liked the crispy deep fried game hen.
Great ambiance and really good moderately priced food. The southern New Orleans inspired menu delivers in multiple areas. Nice for a first date or drinks with colleagues.
Delicious southern food served with genuine southern hospitality.
Amazing Mother’s Day experience. What was our first time there and we will definitely be returning. Excellent southern food with a California spin. Incredible customer service as well from every host, server and bartender
The chicken and waffles, braised collard greens and mac n cheese was delicious!
Too noisy, had to ask twice three times and different servers to get my second drink.
Although it was a bit pricey the food was delicious!! I would definitely come back
Great southern food with a solid bar menu. Get the corn bread!
The food was delicious! We had the cauliflower & the chile relleno. The flavors were contemporary & perfectly constructed. I have celiac disease, and the chef personally came to our table to tell me he had adjusted the chile rellano so I could eat it. Brilliant service, and a really cool ambience. I’m excited to go back & try their bar menu, and the other items on the proper menu! Absolutely recommend!!
Love the atmosphere and live music. It was my first time and the employees were very welcoming.
I’ve been here twice in the past two weeks and each time was more impressed by the food quality, creativity, and taste. Excellent portion sizes for a group of 4. Amazing southern flavors. The whole hen, the pork belly, the street corn on the cob... these are just a few of the MUST-haves. They’ll also let you order some of the bar foods (like Mac and cheese) while you’re upstairs at Proper even though it’s not on the menu.
Also, the Jazz Men drink is absurdly delicious. Will order it every time!
One of the best meals I’ve had in a while. You guys have improved your menu and service. So delicious! Blown away.
Food was excellent and great ambiance!
Food was amazing. Other than the host, service was poor. Server and bartender seemed disorganized, as if the wait staff has no training or experience. He was polite, but forgot drink orders. One of us had fish and the others duck. The fish came out a good ten minutes before the duck. Must fine dining would have waited to fire the fish until the duck was nearly done. We had to force our colleague to eat without us and then watch us eat. Odd. Live jazz was great and I would probably go here again, but I would warn my colleagues ahead of time about service. A course correction on that would make this place unforgettable.
I am from Alabama. I've eaten gallons of collard greens in my life. The braised collards were the best version of the dish I've ever tasted. The duck breast and grits is an A+ dish by any standards.
Cocktails were excellent as well. Service was good without any real problems. Will come again!
Surprised with the food here. Southern style but with a bit modern touch. All people in our party loved it and thank me for bringing them here. I would recommend this place to my other friends and definitely visit in the near future.
Ordered 3 tasty dishes: Catfish, the fried game hen and the charred octopus. All delicious. Great service, great ambiance and great drinks. I probably had 3-4 vodka drinks with these frozen watermelon balls that were sooooo good. I would definitely recommend this place!
Amazing food in a super cool setting.
Food was very disappointing! It was upsetting that our anniversary dinner was a flop.
A good restaurant not only makes you want to go back to it but also makes you want to go home urgently to make new inspired food. And if only all the waiters look like a younger, taller and slimmer version of Noah from The Notebook, the world could be so much more tolerable...
I really enjoyed the food at Preaux & Proper the only problem was that I wanted to try more! The entrees are really designed more for a larger group (4 or more) so although I wanted to try more dishes it was way too much food for two people. We ordered the collard greens and catfish which were very good. I will go back with a larger group next time.
You’re not going to get this menu anywhere else in LA. They will try and copy it but they won’t be able to replicate the mouthwatering smiles of YUMMY that we experienced! Staff (Violet the bartender & Sasha the waitress) were super nice! Only thing that could have made it better would have been if the balcony was open! Oh well, leaves ANOTHER reason to return! Highly recommend Preux & Proper!
Place is great! 9 out of ten. Only thing that I would recommend is a few lite dishes to go with the HEAVY meals. Would definitely return just not too often as I want my pants to fit!
The food is wonderful. The staff is very kind & helpful.
The food was good, but a little overpriced. We were not happy with the $35 corkage fee. Highest I have ever encountered!
Will not return, just not that exciting.
I absolutely loved eating here and I plan on visiting again when the upstairs portion opens up.
Good food. Great atmosphere
Larger portions than we expected for share plates, was good food and we had a great server, Robert.
We sat in the tall table bar section for dinner and we were ignored for quite awhile. I walked back to the hostess and asked about a server and she brought us waters. Ok. Waited some more and then she took our drink orders. She was new so I was very clear that I wanted my drink "up" as in chilled and served in a martini class. It was half the size of a normal drink, in a tumbler and warm. Not even close. The food arrived and was excellent and saved the day but it felt like the entire staff was new as nobody seemed to know what was going on.
Went for brunch...some of the items on the menu are more of side items or not complete entrees and it seems as if they were just pushing the chicken and waffles. I went against the grain and ordered the collard greens and beignets. Greens were pretty good but the Beignets were doughy inside (I’m biased, my family is from the Nola area). And the popsicle mimosa was pretty good as well except they use store bought popsicles. I was under the impression they were made in house. Nonetheless brunch was good overall...service was great!
We had a 12:45 reservation for Sunday brunch. Asked if we could be seated when we arrived at noon. Very accommodating and said yes. Some of the dishes can be shared between 2 or3 people as we had plenty of left overs to take home, which isn't a bad thing. The food was excellent and one of our party is from the South and cannot stop talking about how great everything was! Looking forward to returning for dinner and or Happy Hour, a big thank you to the talented crew at Preux and Proper !!!!!!!!!!
Amazing food but the service was very slow for Sunday Brunch. Would have ordered more drinks but they took too long.
Absolutely delicious food and wonderful service! Wish it wasn’t so far from home. I’m going to be craving the Sweet Corn and the Octopus.
If your looking for a taste of New Orleans with a twist....this is the place for you.
Absolute fabulous. Food was amazing and Chef Sammy came and chatted with us. One of the best dining experiences I've had in years.
The wait staff was not very good. The restaurant was too cold and twice, two waiters said they would do something about it and did not. Not until the manager came by was anything done. The manager was good. Since this is downtown parking is not that great.
Great food and atmosphere. I will be back for the octopus. It was tender and well seasoned.
We were pleasantly surprised by its charm and creative dishes. The decor and ambience are suited for the food and service was very efficient. A great addition to downtown!
Had high hopes. Service was a little slow. Table next to us had a dog that started barking during dinner. Food was great. Cocktails were on point. Will come back for bar area next time.
