Consistent high quality and flavors that nobody else has. Staff actually cares about their customers. Upbeat and delicious.
I had a mixed time here. We arrived a little early for our reservation and there were several open tables but they said we had to wait. I hate that. Once seated we ordered drinks and they never came. The server came back and took our order for 4 different entree items..a salad, veggie, ribs and octopus. Within 5 minutes all of it showed up which was a little fast and made me think they are all just sitting there waiting to be handed out and not fresh cooked - still no drinks. He finally came by and said "oh, no drinks let me go check" and then came back and said the bar was backed up and it took 15 minutes before our drinks showed up - no apology and no "I'll give you a free plate of bread" or something. The ribs were cold. On the plus side the food was very tasty! But the major downside was that it was insanely loud. We have to shout to talk to each other. And as the evening went on it just got louder. Some people love that and I understand the fun party New Orleans vibe and think that is great. It was just too loud for me. So overall I won't go back but as I said the food was tasty!
Our waitress, Alexandra, was very nice and attentive. She made our experience better and I’ll return and ask for her.
Our server was very nice and attentive and all of the staff was engaging and helpful. The mixed drinks were very good. The food was hit or miss. The collard greens, Brussels sprouts, cornbread, and roasted corn were very good. The beef rib was bland, tough and quite small for the price. The hushpuppies didn't have quite enough crab flavor but i liked the concept. The Andouille sausage itself was really good but the shredded brisket (?) and beans that came in the dish were too salty while the corn cake was plain and dense. It just didn't work together. The desserts were underwhelming. The poutine was disappointing since there are a number of LA restaurants doing rather decadent, delicious poutine nowadays. This poutine was more like dry cheese fries with a sprinkling of bacon. My average score is 3 stars but there were high highs and low lows.
Brunch was delicious, the server was prompt and kind, it was a great experience !
Service was decent but food was way overpriced and not that great.
Had a great time, and the food was very good. Highly recommend this place!
Sasha is a very knowledgeable and attentive server. Recommend the Old Fashioned, trout, mussels and cornbread.
This place is perfect date night spot! They have great food and service....great drink menu. Definitely recommended.
Maybe the happy hour items tasted way better, but the items from the dinner menu were either bland, over seasoned, or just not tasty. Sure the place is pretty, but the food needs to back it up. Not worth the money.
The food was not tasty. The greens tasted like they had loads of vinegar in the pot. The crab hush puppies were heavily breaded. Would appreciate a crab cake instead. The macaroni and cheese was too tangy. It tasted like extra sharp cheese with sour cream shelled noodles. The catfish was good and properly seasoned with a delicate signature sauce. The waitress took 15-20 mins to come back with the check after boxing only one item out of 4 items (we did not want the remaining items). We needed to pay for our food so we can leave and make it on time to our Valentine’s paid event. Finally, we were able to track someone else down to close our tab. To conclude, I will not return for food. Possibly drinks in the future since we only order water.
Dinner was so good. We had the seafood gumbo pot, Brussels sprouts and cornbread. It was mouth watering
Amazing Fresh Farm to Table experience
Great experience, we order 2 drinks at the bar before being seated. The bartender was nice and talkative. It was a date night for us, we ordered 4 dishes and honestly it was hard choosing because everything sounded so delish. It definitely on the pricey side but well worth it. We also tried there apple cobbler with cornbread and ice cream - sooo bomb.
The food was so good! It’s a cute place with great outdoor areas as well.
Great experience! They were very helpful with making a reservation and accommodating a large group. Food was great and really enjoyed the ambiance.
Good chicken. Different set up then a regular restaurant but nice
Enjoyable meal .Only problem large serving pieces and based on number of dishes served around the same time "as cooked and served when ready" makes the table too crowded for comfortable dining .So one eats to rid serving dishes!A bit more pacing would be beneficial. But will return
Took my boyfriend here for his birthday. Our waiter was very REAL. He wasn’t trying to be “robotic” or fake, just a genuine good person with a great attitude! We ordered a few drinks that were delicious! Beets By Kay was my all time favorite drink ever! We ordered tacos that didn’t come out along with everything else but only because the chef didn’t like how they looked, lol, we weren’t the least bit bothered because all of our other food came out in amazing time and tasted SO good! Because of the delay on our tacos, the manager didn’t even charge us! Just all around great atmosphere, delicious food and wonderful staff! I will recommend this restaurant to everyone and will definitely be returning!
Saying a goodbye before I moved to London. Great experience.
Nice to have a New Orleans inspired restaurant downtown. I wish there was one on the west side. The food was very good, but as they don't list prices online, I was surprised to see that a gumbo costs $49. My husband and I shared the gumbo and some collard greens and cornbread. The cornbread is like a thick corn pancake with a sweet butter on top. Delicious. All dishes were very good, and it was quite enough food. We ate in the upstairs dining room. It's casual, busy and pretty noisy. I actually think the downstairs bar area is more welcoming - but also pretty noisy. I will go back and try the bar menu downstairs. Definitely worth a second try.
We had a comfortable table near the window. We selected from the “Dine LA” menu. We loved all the dishes and appreciated being able to she them. It was the first visit for each of us and we agreed that we’d be back to try more dishes.
P.S. We were glad we had a reservation!
We did enjoy our visit but it was very long. Waiter was super slow but food came pretty fast. Good selection of southern food, which was very good!
Wonderful, amazing experience. Gold medal, start to finish.
We order from the Dine LA winter menu. The waldorf salad was good. We had the jambalaya. Other than having to struggle with the big chunks of rabbit, it was tasty. My husband really liked the beignets. I had the apple cobbler, which was more like bread with baked apple. It wasn't bad it just wasn't what I was expecting. The Old Fashioned was pricey but very good! I would definitely come back to try other menu items.
the food is absolutely fantastic. no doubt. was there for dineLA menu. the service after the seating adventure was superb. however, i got reservations a week ahead of time. i expected to be seated in the dining room upstairs, in Proper, as i was having a three course meal and not stopping by for a drink/snack at the bar. despite my reservation, we were sat downstairs - on high top seating, without a back, and no hooks for coats/jackets. i was disappointed by the seating situation. the wait staff was lovely otherwise and the food exquisite.
We went to Preux & Proper for my husband’s Birthday for dineLA week. I live an hour and a half away and we were hoping we wouldn’t be disappointed and we weren’t. The pre fixe menu had several choices for each course which was great being that one of our family members is vegetarian. The food was delicious! I will definitely be back!
Came to this place excited. We had a reservation .. the hostess place us outside and we ask nicely if we can move mind u theres a lot space. He wasn’t smiling and looked annoyed. Put us downstairs below the stairs.. we’ve been to many restaurants and we love to eat and travel. Hostess was rude and inconsiderate.
Everything was amazing.
I celebrated my birthday here and they went above and beyond for my party and I, the staff even signed a birthday card for me!
The service was good; however, the food was a poor attempt at soul food. The wine selection wasn’t good either. Don’t waste your time or money. I’m glad I tried this place on dinela, because I would have been super annoyed if I would have paid the ridiculous prices they are charging for their underwhelming food.
All in all great night. Food was excellent
We came to Preux & Proper for DineLA and really enjoyed the experience. The food is thoughtfully prepared and VERY tasty. Standouts included the Dungeness Crab Hushpuppies, the Smoked Pork Neck Gravy Poutine, the Gumbo, and the Fried Hen. The drinks were also creative and delicious, with the Old Fashioned having a great spicy note and the Blue Bayou being a sweet and and tangy masterpiece. The service was excellent without being overbearing. We can't wait to come back and try more items from the masterful New Orleans-inspired menu!
great service throughout. the food was so delicious!
Very good experience. We found the food a bit on the spicy side for us, but everything was very tasty. Fun decor and look.
First time visiting and had a great experience. Casual but nice vibe, good fast service and with some fun personalities, and made for a great evening. And very reasonable nice night out with multiple drinks for my wife and I and for a reasonable bill.
It starts with being greeted, and made welcome, by the friendliest staff. The lovely Chuy gave us some helpful pointers on the weekend menu. We had:
Shrimp & Grits = Delicious
Chicken & Waffle = Delicious (a waffle connoisseur agrees)
French Toast - Delicious
Ordered the lamb ribs, fried catfish, and buttered corn. It all came out quickly and hot and tasted just delicious! I can’t stop thinking about the fried catfish! I accidentally dropped half an ear of corn and a server who wasn’t assigned to my table brought me another one. Great service!
The service at the downstairs bar was amazing and so helpful with things on the menu. Upstairs was great. Downstairs we had the cornbread AMAZING. Upstairs we had the hushpuppies, fried hen and the fish tacos. All great but the Hen was out of this world great. Only complaint was too much ice in the margarita upstairs. 3 sips and it was gone but they fix another and it was fine. Highly recommend. We had a show at the Ace theater and walked from the restaurant.
