PRESS Ratings and Reviews
We first went to Press two years ago on our first visit to the valley (from New England). It was among the top reasons we had to get back and visit again. We made a trip back for a week in the area to celebrate our 10th anniversary and chose Press to specifically celebrate the occasion. It did not disappoint!
Food: just as good as we remembered! The flat iron steak is incredible! Salad and charcuterie were also great to start with. Our only disappointment was that they no longer have their famous potato cakes!!!
Drinks: fantastic. Their old fashioned is always a great option, and they also have a good selection of gins for those who enjoy a good martini. We made a suggestion last time we were here to improve their scotch selection, and they most certainly did! I found many fantastic scotches to choose from, many I know well and many that I have wanted to try including 4 separate yearly bottlings of the bowmore cask.
Dessert: we had the chocolate soufflé (order ahead, it takes 20-25mins), and it was also extremely good!
Food and service levels were above average. Thank goodness we brought in our own wine ( corkage fee of $30@ -which is ok) those same bottles that we purchased at a local vineyard for $120 were selling on their wine list for $350. That part of the menu pricing is somewhat insane
PRESS is over-rated and way overpriced. The food was okay, but the prices were astronomical. Consider $67 for a 10 oz. flat iron steak. I've have better for half the price. For the prices at PRESS, you deserve an exceptional experience. The food, service, and ambiance here are not life-changing. Better than ordinary, but nowhere near worth the price. Better to go to any of 30-40 better restaurants in the wine country.
I literally cannot come to the Napa Valley without coming to Press. The service, the wine list, the drinks, the beef....love every bit of it.
They keep your wine glass full but also keep you hydrated. The wait staff is knowledgeable and personable without being pretentious or overbearing.
Go early and head straight for the bar - $1 oysters at Happy Hour!!!!
Really good! Lively bar with unique cocktails. Loved the ice! Great menu and meal. My filet was perfect with the truffle butter. The sides were all tempting so we had to get a few. Chocolate soufflé is a must. Only gripe - $30 corkage fee for your own wine was a bit steep for an expensive meal. Very attentive service and great atmosphere. Can't wait to go back.
A very beautiful restaurant nestled in St Helena and wine country. We celebrated my significant others birthday here and the overall experience was okay. For some reason we felt a little awkward because our server made it our experience rather cold. He never introduced himself to us but rather just took our order and did his job instead of being personable. If we had another server it would've made such a big difference. But as far as food wise it was enjoyable - comfort food at its finest. Many of the other waitresses, host, and workers did drop by and extended a happy birthday greeting to our table and it was greatly appreciated.
Press was outstanding from the service to the food! We have been to several steak restaurants and, as my husband said, we have never had a steak so delicious as we had at Press. The servers were attentive but not intrusive. Our water and wine glasses were always filled; they checked in to be sure we were not in need of anything. Loved it!
I have been to Press twice and on both occasions find the steak so tender and tasty. I have always had their Rib Eye and Filet Mignon and i can't impress upon the fact that this meat is soo tender and flavorful. The service is excellent and the wine list is so extensive that if you can't decide on a bottle the sommelier will be more than happy to recommend a bottle for you. Great food, service and wine.
The host was very rude, the server was sweet and kind. I called the manger over to let him know of our great service but subpar greeting that was just rude enough to make our overall experience bad. The manager stared at me with a convoluted smile. I own a hospital, and bedside manner (guest interaction) is everything- especially from management level. This "manager" made me feel like the butt of a joke and practically laughed at me then continued over to the host stand and laughed with the host. If one of my employees has room to grow, I want/need to know to ensure the best experience for everyone involved. The short dark haired hostess gets her rudeness clearly from her boss. Both- need extreme attitude adjustments if they want to advance in any industry. I will not be going back to this restaurant anytime soon. I'd rather give my money and spend my time at one of the many other great restaurants in the area.
