PRESS Ratings and Reviews
We were not impressed as we were told it was the best steak place. The filet and rib eye were tough and we are still puckered from the lemon tart, oh my god! The spinach was fabulous though. It is very expensive and the wine list is presented with an iPad for every table, little pretentious and telling about the prices
We have been coming to Napa Valley for over 35 years and just spent our 35th anniversary there. We had never been to Press before....I chose it because of the menu. We are getting a bit tired of the "wine country cuisine". It's usually esoteric and not always tasty. This menu is more of a classic steakhouse menu. It was one of the best dining experiences we have had in years. We've been to all the big steakhouses from Ruth's Chris to Flemings to Mortons to Capital Grille and more. This by far was the best steak ever. The restaurant is stunning....very warm and romantic. Our server, Charles was a delight.....just the right amount of attention with a great attitude and good humor. I can't say enough good things about Press. Go!!
The staff at Press is amazing - from the moment we entered; to having a cocktail and appetizer out back beside the fireplace; to moving inside for our amazing dinner. We enjoyed trying various glasses of wine for variety sake, and the tasting bacon appetizer was heavenly. Our steaks was delicious, side dishes tasty, and the restaurant both inside and outside is gorgeous. We'll be back.
We have spent considerable time in the Napa Valley trying both established and new restaurants over the last 25 years, and enjoyed Press as among the best restaurants in any category in the Bay Area. Everything was perfect and exquisite. It was classy but served Bacon appetizers as a wonderful compliment to the vast meat selection on the menu. The venue is perfectly approachable yet evidently comfortable and inviting for locals as well. From the initial house baked breads to the home made Mint Chip ice cream for dessert, everything was specially prepared, with memorable tastes and presentation. The staff is awesome, friendly, informative, attentive and extremely professional in all respects. We really found a winner and will return!
So impressed with this Napa Valley gem. Celebrated my husband's birthday at Press and it was one very romantic dinner. The food was incredible. The service was stellar. Haven't stopped raving about it since we left. Planning a vacation back to Napa just so we can visit Press again.
We arrived for a romantic dinner for two. We were seated before our reservation time, near other couples, but very comfortable atmosphere. Easy to see what others had ordered, talk casually about what to order etc. The waiter was wonderful, explained everything completely....wine list, cuts of steak, process of cooking, and preferences. He noted although steak sauces are on the menu, they really aren't necessary when you order a good piece of meat! I tried the duck salad on a whim and it was amazing, my husband's crab cake was solid crab meat....no filler! Both our steaks (mine filet mignon and his the rare rib eye) were cooked to perfection, butter like....melt in your mouth. Unfortunately we didn't leave room for dessert. Choco lava..
Ambiance and food were fabulous. Appetizers were superb, particularly the octopus and oysters. The meats and fish for our main courses were perfectly cooked. The grilled Walu was one of the best fish I ever tasted. Wine list was extensive. The only (slight)downside were the desserts. The lemon pie was perfect and all dessert portions were quite large so we shared but I expected more original choices.
We asked that our steak not be too rare, but it came to our table in very rare condition. So, embarrassingly, we sent our steaks back to the chef (first time in our lives to send something back for modifications), but what came back was SO DELICIOUS!!!
No kidding, the very best steak that we have ever had. So good. It's expensive for us, but really did seem worth it!
Will definitely go back on a special occasion!
This was our second time coming to Press and we brought friends with us for dinner. The service was spot on. While it seemed that the tables were too close to the ajoining tables, we enjoyed conversing with our dinner neighbors. We each enjoyed the lobster/crab cakes. My wife and I thought the Tomahawke steak for two was outstanding and cooked to perfection. The Truffle Macaroni and Cheese was a big hit as well as the Sauteed Brussel Sprouts. We ordered a bottle of Lewis Chardonnay and brought in a 2003 Far Niente Cab and a 2009 Del Dotto and thought it was special that they waived the second bottle corkage. Dessert was enjoyed on the back patio by the fire place and was a great way to end the evening.
We booked a table for two on the Friday after Valentines Day for a VDay night out. I had noted on my reservations that my wife had to eat Gluten free and when our waiter arrived he noted that. The Sommelier than came by and gave us the wine list on an iPad. With such an extensive wine list this made it much easier and she was very well versed in their selections.
We ordered the Shrimp Cocktail appetizer which was excellent. Followed with splitting the chopped salad, again done very nicely without too much dressing. My wife ordered the Wagyu Ribeye and I ordered the NY steak. Both were cooked to perfection and seasoned right and melted in your mouth. The sides were great as well.
Hostess took care of getting us a can back to the napa valley where we were staying. Kept an eye on us and how new when exactly to call the cab. Really appreciated that. It is a bit of a drive north, I would say it's closer to Calistoga, but it was a great place to eat!
We enjoyed our first time at Press. The restaurant is very appealing with lots of lights and a real wood fireplace. The menu is on the small side for but there is really a wide variety. Of course, the steaks are the main attraction. Hubby had the filet and it was juicy and tender. I chose the scallops. They were cooked just right. And the puree that surrounded them was outstanding. The starter shrimp cocktail was excellent. Real cocktail sauce made with just the right amount of horseradish. We split the really large chocolate layer cake. Very good but not wow. If the very loud woman at the next table had only stopped talking, it would have been an absolutely perfect dinner. Next time we will ask for a booth near the fireplace.
Unlike many restaurants in the Napa Valley, our reservation for four was available at Press at the hour requested. The waiter was very helpful but not intrusive. Since the four of us were going with many different menu choices, wines by the glass were the best choice. Tasting samples of the individual wines were offered by the wait staff if one was not sure of the wine pairing with with individual courses. All the side dishes (kale with pine nuts, roasted brussels sprouts and truffled mac and cheese. Roasted oysters were quite excellent as an appetizer as was the grilled octopus. The Walu, scallops and filet mignon were served handsomely and shared with equal gusto. "Press" is worth every penny.
I love Press. Had the Snake River Farms Wagyu Flatiron steak. It is so flavorful and lean. Cooked to perfection. Service was very good although we had two servers and it was sometimes hard to tell who was in charge. The sommelier helped us pick out a great older Cabernet to go with our meal. I can't wait to go back.
