Present Company Ratings and Reviews
The food was exceptional, and the service nearly perfect. The dishes were well considered, and worked well with one another to create a perfect five course menu. The wine pairings were unexpected and adventurous. I would absolutely recommend the chef's menu with the wine pairing. When dining like this, leave caution to the wind and trust the chef. You won't be disappointed.
So, why a less than perfect review? Well, we were seated right in front of the door on a particularly cold night. The dining room as a whole was just unreasonably cold, and diners were still wearing their winter coats at the tables. My wife was so uncomfortable we actually contemplated leaving. That was just unreasonable and totally unexpected from such an otherwise remarkable meal. I would definitely return, and would recommend this restaurant to anyone, but these are the sort of little mistakes that just aren't appropriate for restaurants operating at this level.
We were there for New Year's Eve. The food was fabulous as was the waitstaff. They were having a problem with the heat that night and we had to eat with our coats on, it was that cold. Had it been a different occasion we would not have stayed due to the temperature. I'm sure they are working on fixing the problem but it did make it uncomfortable for that evening. We have been there previously and didn't have any issue with the temp.
Stellar food and service, with one major flaw. As a long-time hospitality professional, I am aware that part of the dining experience is atmosphere and environment. I have dined several times at Present Company and have thoroughly enjoyed my experience. New Year's Eve, one of the coldest days of the year, was a bit different. It was literally impossible to get warm and enjoy the evening.
Many guests, including our party of 4, kept coats on throughout our seating. I am well-aware of the formidable challenges to heat and cool the renovated space which you have lovingly created for dining. Since this was a cold spell long mentioned in the weather forecast, accommodations for diners spending $110-$150 per person for a fixed priced dinner menu before tax and service could have been better. It was extremely uncomfortable and unpleasant to be that cold.
Food was delicious, in particular the avocado soup dish, the rice pudding / egg dessert dish. Very disappointed in the temperature of the restaurant itself given the cost. Sadly, the frigid temperature indoors takes front and center of the memory most had from this experience. While i am aware you have no control of mother nature, simply alerting the guests ahead of time of the poorly insulated building so one could have prepared would have been a significant improvement. All in all, i would be willing to try again as the food was great... I'll have to wait for a warmer time of year to do so....
There is a need for a high-quality restaurant in the area with a tasting menu and experienced chef. With high expectations, we chose the tasting menu and wine pairings. Unfortunately, the food and wine fell far short of the mark.
-Excellent, attentive waitress
-Wine pairings with tasting menu are free on Thursdays
-Woodsy setting by the river
-Cassoulet was right on the mark
-Drafty and cold on a winter's night. Several diners wore overcoats throughout the service
-The wine list was weak, with haphazard offerings that would greatly benefit from a sommelier. Particularly egregious is not providing vintage years for offerings, which we find disprectful to those with any knowledge of wines
-One would assume fish would be a strength for a chef with experience at Le Bernardin, but the salmon was unevenly cooked (raw in the middle) and flavorless from a lack of seasoning
-There was a more than 30-minute wait between courses at one point during the service, which is inexcusable
-Most of the dishes were forgettable and/or mediocre
In summary, save your money and go elsewhere.
Over all, very good experience. Food was on the whole great. Started out rocky - - someone forgot to put the baslsamic reduction on the amuse bouche , so it was just a small pile of flavorless vegetables. This may sound trivial, as the 1st taste of what you're getting, it was a big strike. Also, only wine and beer here, if that matters to you. Very cozy space, very good food, very attentive service. Would be happy to go back!
We really love this place! Great atmosphere and service, cozy, and the owners are on site and getting to know their customers. It is somewhat expensive, but the chef is very imaginative with the dishes and the presentation is beautiful, the food very tasty. If you are looking for basic meat, fish, potatoes, this is not your place. Prepare to be adventurous and you will not be disappointed. The menu is somewhat limited, but the chef can make dietary changes. This is a very small restaurant. My only recommendation is that they add a large salad or two that could be an entree if protein is added. Otherwise excellent and I highly recommend!
I had changed the # of our party on open table the day before our reserved time and had accidentally changed the date. Did receive the confirmation email but never noticed the different date. They also make a phone call to confirm the reservation and that's how my mistake was caught. They were very gracious and easily took our party on my intended date without any problem. I had guests from San Francisco and they enjoyed the meal and want to go back there when they come out in the summer. I was pleased and loved the casdoulet.
Absolutely delicious. We've been on the weekends for the tasting menu, which is one of our favorites in the area, this time we took advantage of the Tue/Wed $40 prix fixe. Absolutely delicious, and at $40 for a salad, entree, and dessert, a screaming deal for the quality level. The bouillabaisse was unbelievable, as was the carrot salad.
Chef Jeff, Tom and team knocked it out of the park again!! What an incredible experience. We had the tasting menu and it was out of this world delicious. The presentation was divine. This place is top notch. You are all the best! Thank you so much!! Can't wait until the next time
Present Company is a wonderful little restaurant tucked away in Tariffville, CT just a stone's throw from the Tariffville Gorge of the Farmington River. Everything about Present Company, which replaced another great restaurant, The Mill at 2T, a little over a year ago, is absolutely outstanding. The menu is small and seasonal, but everything the chefs prepare is exquisite. At first glance, the restaurant seems upscale and fancy (and in some ways it is), but it is also a cozy and friendly spot, great for dates and anniversaries and meetings with old friends. I work at a nearby school (Westminster School) and we were there entertaining a couple of jazz musicians from NYC who had performed at my school. They were blown away by the wine and the food and the great service.
We went for our anniversary and sat at the counter for the Chef's Tasting with Wine Pairing and it was amazing. The food, Chef's artistry and energy, the choreographed courses and excellent service made for a memorable experience. This place is tucked away from city and town but well worth the drive. My boyfriend said this will be a regular destination!
We had a very good meal. Sadly, I had requested a high top table online and when they called to confirm was told yes all set. High top was not available. I was surprising my husband with a dinner out and we love watching the kitchen at work. Sad that it didn't come together this time.
Reserved through Open Table - no problem. Chose the tasting menu for the evening - five excellent dishes, catering to meat and to fish people. Chose the wine coupling, as well, and were not disappointed there, either. One of us recommends the lamb dish, the other the crab dish - all great, with the chocolate fruit dessert an exceptionally pleasant surprise ending.
